RAJVEER
The moment I entered the warehouse, my eyes fell on that kid named Diya. I noticed that she was looking at me, or I should say staring at me. Her stare was kind of creepy, but somehow I didn't feel uncomfortable. I just felt something different. A feeling that I have never felt before, not even when I saw Leena ever in my life.
I turned towards Ahmed to know the reason why he had called me here. I know it was something related to money, and I have told my men to ask me for decisions about money, no matter how trivial the matter is, I should be informed. But before that, I needed to scold him as my family is mourning my dead wife and I should have been with them.
"What happened Ahmed? Why did you call me urgently? Have you forgotten the fact that my family is grieving and I am in no mood to work for thirteen days," I said in a firm voice so that I looked devastated after my wife's death.
"Sorry, but who died?"
The next moment, I heard that girl's voice asking who died. And I felt rage at her tone, like how can she be so casual while asking about anyone's death? I looked at her, and her expressions and actions signified that she regretted her words.
Before I could say anything, her brother interrupted and I schooled her brother as well. How much knowledgeable can a 20-year-old guy be?
I informed them about my wife's death and turned towards Ahmed and asked him about the matter.
Ahmed informed me that this guy named Daksh needs money so that he can afford the fees of his sister for her higher studies. And then, he informed me about Daksh's condition and how Daksh helps in our business.
As Ahmed was telling me all this, I could feel that the girl hasn't shifted her gaze from me even by a second. I sometimes looked at her, and although she looked ordinary but beautiful. Long wavy hairs resting at her waist, a fair skin color, soft skin, brown eyes, innocent face, and a slightly chubby body. Her simple clothes enhanced her innocence and her chubby form. She looked like a bubble of happiness and I shouldn't lie, but I felt relieved for a few moments when I saw her. It felt like she calmed all the chaos going inside my head.
Ahmed told me how much that girl needed money, but I had one ideology in my mind. That was, never give anyone money for free. There is no need for charity when a person is able. When a person has two limbs, two legs, and a properly working brain, he or she doesn't need any charity. That person should buckle up, and start earning on his/her own, no matter how little the amount is.
And that's why I offered the girl a job in a nightclub.
"A night...nightclub?" She stammered when she heard my words.
"Yes, you will be in your college during the day, so you should work at night. From 8:00 pm to 12:00 am. Don't worry, Ahmed would take care of your safety and will drop you home at night," I told her.
"But, but, girls working at night isn't respectable in the society. Can't you provide some other job?" Her brother, Daksh asked me.
"Then you decide, she will work and she will study. And as soon as, you're earning money, fulfilling your needs, and stepping towards your dreams. What's respectable in society and what's not, shouldn't be thought about. Respect from the society can go and drown itself in a pool of mud," I answered firmly.
"But, we're social beings, we do have to care about society," she spoke in her innocent tone.
"Kid, bookish words don't make sense every time," I chuckled.
Everyone went silent and the brother-sister duo was staring at me with eyes full of confusion. They couldn't understand what to say and how to say it.
And this frustrated me, I rolled my eyes.
"I don't have the entire day. Answer me, if you want me to sponsor Diya's education, she has to do the job I am providing her and earn that money. Or else, you guys can leave," I announced.
"I will do it."
DIYA
"I will do it," I announced before Bhaiya or anyone else could say anything.
Bhaiya has done much more than enough for me, he took care of me when maa couldn't just because she had to work as a housemaid to pay our bills and feed us. Maa works so much so that we can survive. So, I have to step up and do it.
It's just a matter of three years, it will pass, and when I will be done with my graduation, I will have a respectable job, and then, I can take care of my family. So yes, I am ready to work in a nightclub.
"Fine then. Ahmed will tell you the address of his nightclub. Be there today by 7:00 pm so that he can explain your work and you can start from 8:00 pm," he informed me and I quietly nodded.
Mr. Raichand intimidated me. His voice had such an impact that no one else could defy him. His voice was cold and firm like he was very clear about what he wanted in his life and what he has to do. He sounded like a man, who didn't have a heart, he was a cold and ruthless man.
But maybe, every rich man is like that, maybe that's why they are rich.
I looked at him, till he walked away from the warehouse, and then I could hear his car igniting and moving away from the place.
Ahmed uncle then turned towards me and informed me of the address that I took note of. I noticed bhaiya's annoyed expression and understood that he was frustrated when I agreed to Mr. Raichand's orders.
After taking a note of the address, we walked away from there.
"What was the need for agreeing to it? Why would you work in a night shift, that too in a nightclub? Was there a need?" His tone was completely frustrated as we walked through the meat market.
"Bhaiya, there was a need. It's just three years, and then, when I will be graduated, I will have a respectable job, I will earn enough and we all be a happy family. If I have to face hardships, it's for our good future. You do a lot for the family, maa does a lot, it's my time now," I resonated.
"But a nightclub? Are you unaware of how a nightclub works? What if something happens to you?" Bhaiya shouted at me.
I know he was concerned about me.
"I trust them, bhaiya. I trust the man who is sponsoring my education," I told Bhaiya, even though I was scared to the core thinking about my work at the nightclub.
"Do you know the people you're trusting? What kind of work do they do?" Bhaiya argued.
I looked at bhaiya with confusion in my eyes. I knew Mr. Raichand is the owner of Raichand textiles, but his voice sounded different.
"Rajveer Raichand is one of the strongest mafias of East India region. And do you have any idea about what mafia means? Illegal business, drugs, weapons, killing people, escort services, and prostitution, all of these things are a cakewalk to them," he informed me.
I was immediately scared about what Bhaiya said. The fact that Rajveer Raichand is a mafia shook me to the core and I could sense my feet wobbling as I struggled to digest the truth. I felt goosebumps all over my body and could sense my heart beating rapidly. My eyes were teary and I felt like losing my senses.
What if I go to work there and something happens to me? What will I do then? What will I say to maa, baba and Bhaiya? Will I make it alive?
We reached home, and I was immersed in my thoughts about the work I was appointed to. I was scared about my life, but I wanted to pursue my education so badly. What should I choose? Is losing my life worth for my education? But what kind of life would I lead if I am not educated?
I was so immersed in my thoughts when I saw the clock hit 5:00 pm. I looked at the address Ahmed uncle gave me, and it would take more than an hour to reach there. I have to make a decision. A quick decision or else, I would lose everything.
I took a deep breath and got up from my seat. I walked towards my pile of clothes and picked up an outfit to wear. I will be doing this job, and fulfilling my dream to get graduated
I got ready and walked out of the house. Luckily maa didn't arrive home till now and Bhaiya was in the house so that he can take care of baba. I walked out of the house, while Bhaiya was there, completely frustrated and unwilling to support me in my decision. But, I have made up my mind.
It took me almost one and a half hours to reach the nightclub. I looked around the place, it was quiet and the area was a posh one. It made me more nervous. I couldn't figure out what to do and stood in a place while nervously looking around the place.
And then, I spotted Ahmed uncle at a slight distance. Maybe he was waiting for me. I immediately rushed to him.
"Hello uncle," I greeted him.
"Oh, you're here," he chirped, "come in. I will explain everything to you."
I nodded and walked behind him as we got in.
We were at the inventory of the club. I was standing there, looking around the place, while Ahmed uncle was taking something out from the lockers.
Within five minutes, he brought a pair of clothes to me.
"Have this, this will be your uniform," he told me.
"Uniform?" I looked at him with a confusing look.
"Yes," he nodded.
I couldn't understand a thing. Uniform for what? What do they want me to do?
"You will be working as a waitress, who will serve the people in the restaurant on the first floor. There you won't get crazy drunk people, so you don't have to worry," Ahmed uncle informed me.
And God! The relief I felt after listening to that. I won't have to participate in shady things or work as a dancer. I will be a waitress who would serve the less drunk people in the restaurant. It made me feel happy and then, I carefully listened to Ahmed uncle when he explained everything to me.
After an hour, when Ahmed uncle taught me everything, he told me to pick up the empty dishes from the guest's table. He asked me to focus on that, and learn for a couple of months so after that I can serve people as well. I agreed to it, and now, I was excited about my work.
I changed my clothes into the uniform I was given, and because I was a bit chubbier, the uniform was tight. I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I was getting late, so I walked out of the changing room.
The moment I walked out, there were three girls at that place, maybe they were waitresses as well. They looked at me, and the next moment, they started laughing.
DIYAI was immediately scared when I saw the girls laughing. They were girls who wore skirts above their knees, resting on their hips and the buttons of their shirts were unbuttoned to an extent so that their cleavage would be visible. And their attire was accompanied by high heels, giving them a sexy kind of look. While I, on the other hand, wore black trousers, a white t-shirt and plain black shoes. Since the dress was right, my curves and rolls were clearly visible making me look bad. And, I am damn sure they were laughing at me.One of the girls walked towards me, while I tried to shift my gaze away from her."So, are you new here?" She asked me in a sultry voice."Ye...yes," I nervously replied. My eyes were getting teary and I wanted to run away from the place. "So what kinda crap are you wearing? Wear good and classy clothes, like us," she winked, as she curled up her fingers on my long hair strands."Oh come on Shireen, look at her, she would look like a baby elephant in our
DIYA"Maa..."The words escaped from my throat in a low tone, explaining the anxiety I felt after seeing my mother standing in front of the house with expressions full of anger.I knew she would blast on me as I didn't inform her about my absence, nor did I tell her about my work, in fact, I didn't complete the household chores. She would kill me today."You wretched girl," Maa scowled as she approached me and yanked my hairs without even giving me the time to retreat. She then pulled me inside the house while yanking my hairs and pushed me on the floor. "Ahh," I cried out the moment I hit the floor.Tears started gushing down my eyes as I sobbed silently, fearing about what was waiting for me now. I know, Bhaiya doesn't fight with maa, so he won't be there to save me from her wrath. She will eat me up. I don't know, why she hates me so much?"Maa, what are you doing?"To my surprise, Bhaiya immediately held my hand and pulled me up so that I could stand and questioned maa. I closed
RAJVEERI needed someone to take care of my son. He misses his mother and there is no way that someone can fill up the void that he will have in his life. But he can't cry over his mother for days and years. He needs to move on in his life. He is merely ten and he can't keep on crying about his mother for long."I am hiring you as a caregiver for my son."I ordered Diya. I have noticed her enough in a day to appoint her to that position. She will be good. She is bubbly and whatever I have noticed, she is caring as well. She can take care of Ved nicely and make him feel happy.Since she wants to pursue her education, she will be good and studies and that's why she can help her in his studies as well. And so, she will be a perfect caretaker for my son."Ca...caretaker?" She replied in a trembling voice. I noticed her expressions, and it felt like she didn't expect the fact that I have a son."What? Do you have any problem?" I raise my eyebrows as I stare at her."No, actually..." She
RAJVEERBoth of us turned towards my son standing behind us."Ved," I mumbled."Who is this, Papa?" He asked me, pointing towards Diya.I knelt so that I can be at Ved's height and held my son. "She is like your nanny. She will be playing with you, teaching you, feed you lunch and dinner and everything else. She can be your best friend too, you can share everything with her," I softly spoke, hoping Ved to accept Diya."You mean she is my mummy now?" Ved straight asked."No, why she would be your mummy?"I was taken aback by Ved's sudden question. His tone didn't feel good, which means he had his doubts regarding Diya and now, I have no idea how Ved would react. My optimism vanished in just a moment."Both of you were talking about my mummy, I heard that and now you're saying that she will be with me, play with me, take care of me and everything else that mummy used to do. So, you want to make her my mummy?" Ved questioned in a rude tone.He had heard our conversation and he misunders
DIYAI was about to panic, but I had to calm myself down. There was no way I could panic because I have an eight-year-old kid in front of me whose father is almost unconscious due to fever."No. Why would he leave you? It's just a fever, Vedu," I assure him in a soft tone."Then why isn't he waking up?" He sobbed.I had no idea about how to deal with these kinds of situations, but I knew one thing, I had to think and act quick."Because he is sleeping, na. Whenever you go to bed and sleep, how much time does it takes to wake you up? How many times your papa calls you to wake you up?" Do heck with the logic, I have to calm Ved down and then call a doctor as soon as possible."So, you're saying he will wake up?" He asked me."He will, for sure. Now do one thing, call your grandma, fast," I tell him.Rajveer's mother should know the condition of his son. She will be the best person to take care of him."She isn't here. She went out of town," Ved informed me.Oh heck! What do I do now? T
DIYA"Do you know that falling sick so frequently isn't normal?"Rajveer's words made me chuckle and I couldn't control it. Due to that, he looked at me."Sir, many people in this world have weak immunity and that's why they do fall sick frequently. I think I do have weak immunity that's why," I answered."Yeah, but 104° fever isn't something anyone can get every month," he reasoned."Sir, you live in this fancy, posh house with all the facilities available, and cleanliness maintained. You're having a hygienic environment. While I live in a slum, a one-room house, a drain with flowing dirty water right behind my house and other unhygienic conditions. Falling sick is easy for me," I answered with a calm smile."Still, you should visit a doctor and have a proper checkup," he responded.I looked at him, he looked worried about me and I don't know why, but that made me smile."You don't have to worry about me, sir. You should take care of your health right now. Or else I won't be able to
DIYAI am standing in front of my college gate, looking at the college building, feeling nervous. It's an emotional moment for me as tears were trying to find their way out while I wasn't letting that happen.Never in my life, I thought that I will be able to afford college and pursue graduation, but today, here I am. And all the credit for this goes to only one person, Rajveer. He is like a glimmer of hope and pure happiness in my life.I finally put my thoughts on the back seat of my subconscious, took a deep breath and stepped inside the college. I looked around, there were many students, chilling with their friends and laughing and chatting, while I, on the other hand, didn't even have friends when on the school. And it somehow made me feel bad like I am alone. At the time of admission, I was allotted the classroom number, I entered the building and searched for the same. After searching for a while, on the second floor of the building, I finally found my class and without wastin
DIYA "Sir," I called Rajveer the moment I saw him walking towards his jeep's driver seat. He stopped and turned towards me and then, without wasting any moment, I rushed towards him and hugged him tightly. I wanted to thank him, not just for the phone, but for everything he has been doing for me. And for that, no matter how long a hug would last, it's the only thing that I could give him ever in my life. I kept on hugging him, but I had no expectations from him. But to my surprise, slowly he raised his arms and wrapped them around me. He hugged me back. That moment felt like the most precious moment of my entire life. I smiled like a kid and then buried my face in his chest, while I felt the warmth of his hug. "Diya," his husky voice hit my ears. "Yes?" I looked at him without breaking the hug. He had a blissful smile carved on his lips and it made me feel so precious. "What happened?" He asked me. "Nothing. It's just, thank you. For being here with me and for doing everythi
