MIA

Morning light crept in through the windows, pulling me from a sleep that had been surprisingly deep considering. I couldn’t remember the last time I slept this good.

I was a little disoriented, the sleep slowly leaving my consciousness. I stretched, wondering why my body was warm. The sheets were softer than usual and the faint scent of pine surrounded me. I wasn’t on my dorm mattress. I wasn’t freezing. And I definitely wasn’t alone.

I’d started to panic when the memory flooded back.

XAVIERThe brushing on her face had reduced and so had the scratches on her body. She looked gentle in her sleep that had lasted three days. The doctor said she had internal bleeding and she would have bled out if we hadn't done something quick. The good news was that she was out of the woods now and she would be fine very soon. Gosh, how I could really do with some good news. Another good news was that my uncle was doing much better and he would soon be out of the hospital. Kaan said he was up and running again but the doctors didn't think they were making any sense so they wanted to keep him around to monitor him. Of course that would be weird for them but they'd deal with it.Mia had given him a chance to live again. A chance that evil modern medicine hadn't. I'd like to see Williams' face now that she has succeeded.I had so much joy that everything had worked out. She truly had the last laugh. “She's still asleep, huh?” I stopped thinking and turned around to see her dad, r

THIRD PERSON POVMia was still on the ground. The force was enough to knock any normal person out and give them a concussion for days but not Mia Winston. Pain rippled through Mia's body, and for a couple of moments, she remained still, trying to think of her next plan. Elara was right beside her, calling out her name, thinking that she had been wiped out but no matter how bad she felt, Outside, all of them gathered, including William who was still foaming at the mouth. He sat on the chair, his elbows resting on his knees, while he looked at his siblings with spite. Kaan, Andrea and Xavier all waited at the door, their ears close to the door, trying to get a picture of what was going on outside. The entire floor was closed off to outsiders except nurses and doctors so they didn't have to worry about outside noise. When they all heard the crash, they stepped back and Xavier's hand immediately went to the door handle, trying to burst into the room and save her. Kaan was there to s

MIAAll the curtains had been dropped and the windows were down. Xerxes lay still on the bed, his breathing even, letting the pot of liquid on his chest rise and fall slowly. His eyes were closed as if he was expecting what was to come, having accepted his fate. Elara was still in the corner. “Do you know what to do first?” To the best of my knowledge, just say the words and let the spirit do its thing. She took my silence for a no. “Place your hand on his chest so you can feel it's movement. If it's moving, then it means it's very active. If it's not, that means it's strength is out.”I walked over to the side of the bed and places my hand on his chest and just one second later, I withdrew it with such speed that scared even me. “What is it? What's the wrong?” “It's moving, it's moving fast. It's generating heat from the inside, it's like he's about to combust.” Hearing that last part, Xerxes's eyes flew open but he didn't move. My attention went back to Elara. “That mean

MIAEveryone was in the room, everyone that was important in what was going on. The room was tensioned and very quiet due to the amount of thoughts that were presently going through everyone's brains. But how could it not? Well, one person wasn't thinking. “Still beats how out of everyone in this room, including you Xerxes, you'd actually buy into the bullshit this kid is saying. I mean, how could you believe what she said just because she's done one or two little tricks? Anyone with access to a spell book can do the stupid shit she did. But cancer? He'll, not even the doctors could fix you so what makes you think this kid will?” Andrea stepped in, putting her hand on his shoulder to stop him but he pushed it away. “Leave me the hell alone. It's cancer, not a little cut. I thought you wanted to die earlier. Why change your mind when you have a few days left? I'm sure she has a motive for doing this. It just sickens me that I'm the only one left here with a brain that actually work

MIAI got to work immediately, reading as much books as I can about healing not just injuries, but sicknesses. Magma was a big help, pointing me to where her books were so I could have access and practice before I went ahead to do it. For hoursnon end, I flipped through pages, reading and practicing spells that if neeve heard of before and were too difficult for me to pronounce. But I had my mind set to it. I wouldn't give up. Eventually, I learned that it was nothing close to what I'd performed on Xavier. It was a whole lot different. Sicknesses have an energy, a very dark energy that settled at the center of that person soul and that's why it's able to spread evenly out into the body and get rooted so deeply that it's hard to heal. That's also why it was more complicated to take care of. All I needed to do was learn how to suck the energy out of that person soul. That was the easy part. The hard part was what I would do with that energy. Often times, when a dark energy has be

MIAAfter that, Xavier and Kaan returned with the food that Xerxes had forgotten he asked for.I could tell his stomach churned as he looked at the food, having to eat it. Xavier stood at the door, waiting for me to walk up to him. “I'll see you soon, Xerxes. Will you wait for me?” He smiled as he looked up from the plate. “We have a deal, I won't go back on my word.”Good. Imagine asking a sick man not to die just so I can come and heal him. How interesting. As Xavier closed the door behind me, I removed the cloth from around my neck, the one he had given me so Xerxes won't have questions. If he had seen it, I would have just lied to him that it was a really bad allergic reaction. He would have called me out on my bullshit though because he's not easily gullible. “What were you guys talking about? What deal did you have?” He looked really invested so I told him everything, including his uncle's response. Somehow, I was expecting his expression to lighten, hearing that his uncl

XAVIERMIa still hadn't woken up. Last night, I'd spent the night over at the hospital to see if she would wake up but just before she did, the nurses came in and gave her another heavy round of drugs that could knock out a horse. “Is that really necessary? Do you really need to give her all that

XAVIER“I think I'll take the first chance. Mr Pierce, this little stunt of yours was a pretty good shot at making people think that you had the upper hand. But I'll be glad to let you know that this was a mistake.”The reporters turned around and all the cameras stopped clicking at him, turning my

XAVIERBy the next morning, things had been set in motion. Ark had made it to the police station and told them what had happened, along with proof. Texts, calls from her and her father the day she was shot and the money wire transfer as a job well done. The look on the detective's face will alway

XAVIERWhen Mia informed me that they had come to her room to threaten her,I stood up immediately and went there. They had the nerve to go to her and tell her all sorts of things. “Did they hurt you?”She remained calm. “Quite the contrary. I gave their clothes some water to calm down. They didn
