The wolf in my jaws went limp and I dropped it immediately and spun around only to pause, my heart dropping to my stomach.

Where was Mia?

My entire body went rigid before I blinked and pushed myself to move and bolted toward the back of the cottage. My paws barely touched the ground as I ran.

The back door hung open. Splintered wood scattered across the floor.

The bedroom was empty.

MATE.

Kane roared inside me, thrashing against my control.

I burst through the doorway, my shoulder slamming into the frame. The wood cracked but I didn’t feel it.

Her scent was everywhere. Fear. Terror. And underneath it something sharp.

My vision went red. I didn’t know when I started running, following the trail of her scent like a lifeline.

Trees blurred past me. My paws tore up the ground. Branches whipped against my fur but I barely felt them.

Her scent grew fainter with every second, tuning my stomach.

No. No, no, no.

I pushed harder. My lungs burned. My muscles screamed.
