Chapter 1

Author: Lilia
In seven days, Charles will pay for his choice. And I will be at my true Alpha mate’s side.

When my father heard Quinn volunteer to marry the wolfless Charles, his face went pale.

"Quinn, don't be ridiculous."

He turned on me, his voice stern. "Naomi, you are the eldest. This family alliance is your responsibility."

"In his condition, Charles needs a caretaker. Quinn isn't suited for that."

Sitting nearby, Charles was a picture of cold indifference, radiating the frail aura of a diminished wolf.

He wasn't the least bit embarrassed, as if he wasn't the one being ostracized by everyone in the room.

This was nothing like my past life.

Quinn clung to our father's arm, her voice a saccharine whine. "Daddy, I don't care about any of that. I just love Charles."

"Nonsense! Do you have any idea what losing his wolf means? He's weaker than the lowest-ranking omega! He’s no different from a human!"

It was the first time Father had ever been so cold to Quinn.

"Besides, in his current state…"

Charles's mother, Victoria, shifted uncomfortably but didn't dare contradict my father.

She chose her words carefully. "I heard Naomi's grandmother left her a moonstone with healing properties, one said to work wonders on such injuries."

"If Naomi agrees to mate with Charles and brings the moonstone as her dowry, our Sterling family will establish a two-million-dollar healing fund for her."

My stepmother and father both gasped. Their combined income was barely fifty thousand a month.

But Charles suddenly scoffed. "Mom, that’s just a myth. How else would a nobody like Naomi snag an Alpha willing to mate with her if not for some sob story? The only mate I want is Quinn."

Victoria turned her gaze to me. "Naomi, is it true? There’s no moonstone?"

My grandmother was a renowned healer among the packs. The moonstone she left me was legendary. Even the Elder Council in the Capital had once summoned her to treat an important figure.

The stone was real.

But I shook my head.

Charles snorted. "See? I told you she was a liar."

Victoria’s expression soured, while my father and stepmother adamantly refused to let Quinn marry a crippled wolf with no future.

But Charles spoke again, his tone infused with a chilling confidence. "I've already found a cure. Once I'm healed, I'll be back at the company."

"If Quinn marries me, she'll want for nothing."

Quinn nodded emphatically. "That's right, Mom, Dad. I know a powerful healer who can definitely cure Charles."

My father and stepmother looked skeptical. Victoria saw their distrust.

"Quinn, stop making empty promises. Let Naomi go through with the alliance. She grew up with her grandmother; she knows how to care for the infirm. Even if your healer fails, Naomi can look after him."

Victoria hadn't completely given up on me. Having lived in New York, she knew my grandmother's legendary reputation.

Quinn immediately erupted. "That healer only trusts me! If Charles doesn't marry me, he won't get treated. It's your choice."

Charles went even further, snatching a fruit knife from the table and pressing it to his wrist. "If I can't have Quinn, I'd rather die."

Stark white with fright, Victoria had no choice but to negotiate, raising her offer until my father and stepmother finally relented.

I watched the whole charade with cold detachment, speaking only at the end.

"I have no objection, but Quinn is not to take anything my mother left me."

Quinn shot me a triumphant look. "Who wants your hand-me-downs? Charles will buy me everything new."

"But, there is one thing. That antique necklace from your grandmother."

Charles’s hands tightened on the armrests of his wheelchair, his eyes locked on me.

Even Quinn’s fingers trembled with tension.

They both let out a visible sigh of relief when I nodded without a word.

Quinn rushed straight to my room and fetched the necklace.

Charles took it. He and Quinn eagerly opened the locket, sharing a furtive, gleeful glance.

Then he looked at me, his expression frigid. "Naomi, I know you have a crush on me, but my heart belongs to Quinn. After we're mated, don't you dare pull some stunt like killing yourself for attention."

Seeing his desperate attempt to push me away, I had to suppress a sneer.

In my last life, he chose to mate with me, afraid of dragging Quinn down with him.

Then, after I healed him, he tormented me to death, blaming me for the loss of his 'true love.'

If he despised me so much, I would gladly grant his wish.

I replied coolly, "Just make sure you two stay out of my life."

A month later, Charles appeared at the gates of the Williams Estate, carrying a gift box.He looked even more diminished, his eyes hollow with regret."Naomi, I know you're in there. I need to talk to you."Harrison frowned. "I'll get rid of him.""No," I stopped him. "Let me hear what he has to say."I walked to the gate, looking at Charles through the iron bars."Speak."Charles set the gift box down, his knuckles white as he gripped the arms of his wheelchair."Naomi, I came to apologize.""I testified that your stepmother set the fire. She's in the pack’s confinement cells, awaiting trial."I nodded. "And?""And… I turned over the evidence of your father's breach of the pack’s financial code to the Pack’s Financial Council."Charles's voice was quiet. "The Sterling Corporation is finished. Our family businesses have all collapsed.""I'm sorry, Naomi. I know I hurt you beyond measure, and I don't know what else I can do…"I listened silently, feeling nothing. "Charles, do you think

The next morning, I was woken by shouting from downstairs.Through the window, I saw a small crowd had gathered at the estate gate.Quinn was screaming at Charles, "You lied to me! You said you'd be healed, and now look at you!""You're a broken wolf! Your own family doesn't even want you!"Charles sat slumped in his wheelchair, his head bowed.Victoria stood by her son, her face a mask of horror."Quinn, you were the one who insisted on marrying Charles.""You can't blame him now that things have gone wrong."Quinn sneered. "I married him because he promised me that moonstone would heal him!""Now that he's useless, why should I waste my life with a cripple?""I want to sever the mate bond!"At those words, Charles's head shot up. "Quinn, you can't! We had the ceremony!""Ceremony?" Quinn laughed, a mocking, ugly sound. "You mean that pathetic joke?""Charles, you're weaker than an omega now. Why would any she-wolf stay with you?"Victoria was trembling with rage. "Quinn, you've gone

The verdict of the Wolf-Essence Appraisal Report sent a shockwave through the room.Charles had lost his wolf permanently. He would never lead the Sterling Pack, never inherit the family business. He would spend the rest of his life as an outcast.Quinn's face went slack with shock, and her hand dropped from Charles's arm as if it were on fire.Just moments ago, she had been boasting about his brilliant future. Now, the reality crashed down on her: she had shackled herself to a broken wolf.Harrison took back the report. "Let's go, Naomi."I nodded, taking his arm and leaving the sham of a ceremony behind us.The sounds of Quinn's hysterical screams and Charles's enraged roars followed, but I never once looked back.A week later, at the Williams Estate.I was reading in the study when Harrison came up from behind and wrapped his arms around me."What are you thinking about?""Nothing, really. It's just… all of this feels so surreal."At this time in my past life, I was wasting away in

The venue fell silent.Every guest stared, transfixed, as we emerged from the car.A golden light burned in Harrison’s eyes—the unmistakable mark of an Alpha. For the first time in a decade, a powerful presence radiated from him, a palpable pressure that settled over the room.Quinn was the first to break the silence, shrieking, "Impossible! Harrison can't have his wolf back!""You're faking it!"Harrison shot her a glacial look, and the sheer force of his Alpha authority silenced her instantly. The Pack Covenant slipped from my father’s trembling hand and fluttered to the ground. His face was a death mask."Naomi... how... You weren't…""Burned to death?" I finished for him, a small smile touching my lips as I surveyed the crowd."Sorry to disappoint you all."My stepmother trembled, hiding behind my father, too terrified to speak.Harrison came to my side and offered me his arm."Everyone, thank you for coming," his voice was deep and resonant. For the next few days, I stayed with Harrison, focusing on his treatment.Though he still lacked the powerful aura of an Alpha, I could feel a definite shift in him.My healing gift was working its silent magic. On the third night, Harrison sat across from me, a flicker of confusion in his eyes."Naomi, I've been having the strangest dreams.""What kind of dreams?""I dream I'm running under a full moon, and I can hear howling in the distance." He shook his head. "I haven't felt anything like that in ten years."I took his hand. "Your wolf is returning."Harrison was stunned. "Impossible. The pack doctors all said my wolf was gone forever.""Trust me," I said, meeting his gaze. "You'll see."The day before Quinn and Charles's mating ceremony, I returned to my old house to retrieve my mother's belongings. As I knelt in the basement, gently wiping the dust from my mother's photograph, I heard the heavy click of a lock behind me.I turned and twisted the handle. "Or were you not aware that Naomi is to be my son Harrison's mate?"Charles went rigid, the color draining from his face. Her words stopped his bodyguards in their tracks, neither daring to take another step.Quinn stammered, "Mrs. Williams, you misunderstand. We didn't come here to cause trouble…""We just wanted to convince my sister to stop her scheming."Catherine glanced at her, raising a perfectly sculpted eyebrow. "Scheming?"Charles gritted his teeth. "Mrs. Williams, Naomi has no idea how serious Harrison's condition is.""If she told you she could cure him just to force a union with your family, I advise you to reconsider."The neighbors began whispering among themselves, some casting suspicious glances my way.But Catherine just laughed. "Mr. Sterling, are you questioning my judgment?""Or perhaps you believe you know what my son needs better than I do?"Charles opened his mouth, but no words came out.Quinn, not one to give up, added more fuel to the fire.
