“I’m outside, hurry up” I heard Sophie from my phone’s speaker.
I hurriedly dressed my bed and shifted the pile of dresses I had made whilst looking for a good outfit for the party , to the left corner of the bed.
I ran down the stairs ,tightly holding my tote bag that contained my make up and dresses.
“ Where are you off to?” I heard as I slowly turned to meet the eyes of Stan.
He had these piercing brown eyes, that always made me feel scrutinized.
I let out a chuckle as I walked towards him,
“I’m sleeping over at , Paris’, remember?”
“ No, I don’t “ he said with a slight frown. Ever since he turned twenty , he had assumed this father role at home. I tend to forget I’m the older one sometimes
“ Well, I’m letting you know now” I stated
“ I’ll be back before noon tomorrow, it’s just a night, Stan” I added as he looked at my tote bag
“ Say bye to mum , before leaving’ he stated before walking towards the kitchen
I hurried into the living room, my mum laid on the couch , eyes closed fast asleep with a blanket over her frail body. I kissed her forehead and stroked her cheek before dashing out the door to meet Paris.
“Hey “ I said as I threw my bag at the back seat and changed the music station
“What took you so long? “ she asked with a frown
“You’ll eat first yeah?” She continued without waiting for my response
“ I’m not hungry” I stated knowing fully well that all I’ve had for the day were some slices of toasted bread and scrambled eggs before work .
“We’ll stop at the mall before going home” she stated before driving out the driveway
It was a quarter after 8pm by the time we reached Paris home
She dashed in , said hi to her mom before heading to her room while I followed behind her doing the same
“ I know you don’t have an outfit, didn’t see one good enough for tonight so… I made a fit for you from my closet “ she told me with glee in her eyes.
I laughed at her excitement
“ It’s just a party” I stated
“ party?,” she questioned
“Paris…?”
“You said it was a party” I stated in confusion
“ okay fine I lied, we’re going clubbing!! “She squealed
“Clubbing?!’ I shrieked . I’ve never liked such spaces.
“ I know,I know “
“ But for how long will you continue to stay away? “ she asked
“As long as I can, you know what happened the last time” I told her
“ yes . You caught Brian cheating on you. It’s been a year now, it’s time to live a little please “ she said as she grabbed my hands
“ I guess you’re right. I just get a bit anxious at the thought “ I said
“It’s cool, I understand. We’ll get drunk and dance so much you won’t feel any negative energy” she told me as she patted my head with a smile .
“ Thank you” I said
“ Don’t thank me yet, wait till you see this gown” she replied as she brought out a bloody red mini gown with gold heels at her left hand
“ erm… isn’t that a bit short? “I reacted
“ No, it’s actually very short. But it’s clubbing . So put it on let’s see” she obliviously replied to my question
I wore the dress and it hugged prettily on my body. I wasn’t slim but I had a full chest and a moderate sized hips.
Paris clapped her hands gleefully.
“ what do you think? “ she asked as she pushed me forward to look at my reflection on her full length mirror
“ It’s beautiful “ I replied with a smile
“ You’re beautiful, Sophia” she said with a reassuring smile
I smiled and looked back at my reflection. I didn’t really dress up, but times like this made me believe such compliments. The red dress complemented my blonde wavy hair.
“ Thank you, Paris” I said
“ okay, time for make up” she said as she pushed me towards her dresser.
She touched my face up with her beauty products, funny we didn’t use anything of mine.
Paris really was good at styling that’s her whole goal for relocating. She plans on focusing more on her styling skills in fashion and maybe working with a top fashion stylist.
She styled my hair and I was in love
“ You’re so good at this” I complimented
“ I know, that’s why you have to look good so you can feel good”she said as she gave me the heels to put on while she changed.
Paris was a redhead and the green dress she wore, brought out all her features. It was splendid . We looked gorgeous as we both stood for the last time in front of the mirror.
“ Pics for the road” she said as she brought out her digital camera and took some selfies.
I felt excited for the first time in a long run as we drove to the club.
By the time we got there ,the club was full and it seemed like everyone was having the best time of their life.
Paris dragged me to the bar section for a drink
“ Don’t order something expensive “ I stated
“ Baby, this is a club and we are pretty girls. Pretty girls don’t pay for their own drinks here” she said with a chuckle
“ Wait here” she said as she slowly scrutinized the crowd. With a smile she walked towards a man. He seemed fairly handsome with his shirt hugging his toned arms.
I felt nervous sitting alone. Luckily Paris arrived with the guy in the nick of time
“ James, meet Queen, my best friend “ Paris introduced as I giggled at the fake name she gave to him as mine
“ Hello , James “ I said , playing along
“ Hey , Theo, say hi to Queen” he shouted over the blasting music in the club after shaking my hand
A guy with similar features walked over and smiled at me
“ I’m Theo, nice to meet you” he stated
“ Queen” I said with a rush. He was also handsome. I blushed when I noticed he caught me staring
“ He is my little brother “ James stated
“ younger “ Theo corrected as I laughed at the brothers
They ordered drinks while we asked questions and continued drinking
“ Would you like to dance ?” Theo asked me with a smile after a while.
“ Sure” I said with the aim of shrugging off the effect of the alcohol which had already started taking place
I grabbed his hand and led him towards the ground floor. We danced and laughed at each others dance moves , our bodies rubbing against each other to the feel of the music.
It seemed nice . I felt nice.
“ Excuse me , I need to take this call” Theo whispered to me as I smiled in acceptance
I danced alone. The music and the alcohol was a good mixture. I felt light and free . With my eyes closed and a smile on my face , I relished the moment.
I felt the stare. Few minute into my thoughts and the stare brought me out. My eyes scanned the club and there they were. Those eyes . I felt nervous as my eyes met them. I couldn’t see the figure behind the eyes.
I ignored the feeling and continued dancing.
I felt the touch of his hand at my lower back. I halted as he whispered in my ears
“ Do you mind?” . The baritone of his voice sent shivers down my spine. I didn’t understand the feeling but my body felt alive
I turned around and met the eyes of the most attractive man I had seen .
His hazel eyes glistened and I stared at how beautiful it looked .
He slowly placed my hands around his neck. He was tall but the heels helped in this case.
“ Do you mind? “ he asked again.
While I shook my head as a blush crept on my face
“ Words “he stated with a slight smirk on his face
“ No I don’t mind “ I whispered as he smiled at my reply.
He had a beautiful smile, everything about him felt different and dangerous and I was eager to explore.
The next morning, I woke up feeling like I was walking on clouds. Leo was still asleep beside me, a peaceful expression on his face.I gently got out of bed and made my way to the bathroom to wash up, after which I moved to the kitchen to make some coffee. As I waited for the brew to finish, I stared out the window, feeling grateful and at peace.Leo came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist."Good morning," he whispered, his voice sending shivers down my spine.I turned around, smiling."Good morning," I replied, leaning in for a kiss.“Would have loved to shower with you.” He told me as he breathed my scent in. I laughed and pecked his lips.“Another time.” I said as he nodded. As we sipped our coffee together and munched on the breakfast made by the chef, I knew that this was just the beginning of our happily ever after.I could hardly believe it myself, but the moment felt too big to keep to myself. The ring was still sparkling on my finger, and I couldn’t wait to tell P
As we pulled away from the kiss, I gazed up at Leo, feeling like I was floating in the air. He smiled back at me, his eyes shining with happiness."We should celebrate," he said, his voice filled with excitement, after the waiters applauded and wished us well.I nodded, still feeling dazed. "Yes, we should". Over a bottle of wine and a delicious meal, we talked about our future, our dreams, and our plans. As the night wore on, I felt like I was getting to know Leo all over again. He was still the same kind, caring, and thoughtful person I had fallen in love with, but now he was also my fiancé.After dinner, we walked along the river, enjoying the cool night air and the sound of the water. Leo put his arm around me, pulling me close, and I felt like I was home.As we stood there, looking out at the city lights, Leo turned to me with a serious expression."Sophia, I promise you, I will always be here for you," he said, his voice filled with conviction. "I will always support you, always
And in the midst of it all, Leo and I were planning our next step. Together. By the next week, most of my items had been moved to his place. The soft hum of the car's engine was the only sound filling the space as Leo drove. His hand rested gently on mine, his thumb tracing the soft skin of my hand absentmindedly.Leo glanced over at me as he drove into his driveway, his eyes soft but full of concern. "Are you okay?" he asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.I smiled, though it felt fragile, a little shaky. "I’m fine. I promise."His eyes didn’t leave me, as if searching for a hint of doubt in my words. "You know you can talk to me about anything, right?”I nodded and smiled at his kindness. "I know. It's just... sometimes the past feels heavy. I don’t know if I’m ready to let it all go yet." I turned my face toward the window, watching the world pass by. "But... you make it easier. You make me feel lighter."Leo reached over and brushed his thumb across my cheek. "You don’t
The day had been quiet, the kind of peaceful where your thoughts have a chance to settle and take root.Leo and I had spent most of the afternoon together, quietly enjoying each other’s company. A conversation had been brewing in my mind for some time now. It wasn’t something I’d planned to bring up, but it felt like the right moment.I closed my novel and turned to Leo, catching him looking at me with that familiar, soft smile—the one that always made my heart skip a beat. But today, there was something else in his eyes, an unspoken question."So," I began, my voice a little tentative. "I’ve been thinking a lot about… well, everything." I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "About us, and the future."He shifted slightly after dropping his phone, turning to face me fully. "I’ve been thinking about that, too. What’s on your mind?"I hesitated before speaking again. "I think it’s time we talked about moving in together."Leo raised an eyebrow, a smile tugging at his lips, but there w
“Grace told me she named you Sophia, like royalty. I wanted you to bear the family’s name, but Grace refused. She chose to take you as hers. To make sure you never question your identity. I didn’t think it was possible, Gregory didn’t like the idea of being a father before the wedding. Somehow, we all chose to love you.” He continued as he touched my hair.“I would have loved to meet her.” I told him as I smiled warmly at him.“You have her hair and freckles. Grace had a curly head just like me and Thalia and her mom, had straight brown hair.” He blurted out as I tucked my hair behind my ears, feeling self-conscious.“Why don’t I remember you then?” I asked in confusion.“Because I stopped coming when you were still little.” He replied.“Why?” I asked.“Grace, relocated and kept you hidden. We had a fallout. I hated Gregory’s gambling addiction. I hated how useless he was when Grace was pregnant with Stan…I was scared that I'd lose you or Grace, and it would be too late for me to do a
“I don’t understand.” I said as I hurriedly tried to match his pace. His long legs made his strides difficult to follow.“That’s why I’m here.” He said to me as he abruptly stopped. I halted just in time before I could crash into his back.I sighed and frowned at the underlying hero complex I perceived from him.“Why are we here?” I asked him softly. He pointed to the tomb stones at our front.“Thalia Maxwell and… Desmond Maxwell.” I read out loud, before I turned to him in confusion.“These are your parents.” He stated as I stared in disbelief at the graves before me.“How?” I asked with a whisper as I gripped my necklace tightly.“Grace was your aunt… not your mother. Albeit, she did everything a mother should. She was good at that-proving a point.” He told me.“What point?” I asked.“You see, your mother, Thalia was a free spirit…never sat at one place for long. She loved adventures, and it wasn’t a surprise, when she told me, she had met a man and fallen in love with him.” He said
