The building looked similar to ours , the difference were the toys found on the lawn next to the front porch and the dog sleeping beside the front door. Father never let us adopt a pet, he always told us that they constituted as nuisance, I always wanted a cat , a small pet to love , on our 1st year anniversary, Brian, my boyfriend then ,got one for me, father wouldn’t just give in. He later had to return it .
I walked anxiously towards the door, the dog lifted its head , barked and laid down back. I made a sigh of relief as I knocked .
No answer. I knocked harder fortunately, a pretty girl opened.
“ Hello, can I help you?” She questioned with a smile on her face while I stared at her features.
My heart raced and my palms became sweaty when I noticed the birthmark at her shoulder blade . I had one , Stan had one. Father always boasted about the natural identification mark , God had somehow bestowed on his lineage.
“Hey, are you alright?” I heard
“Yh “ I whispered.
“I’m looking for a , Mr. Pronto .. um.. Mr.Felix?” I asked , realizing that if my intuition was right he wouldn’t continue with our family’s name.
“Oh! You mean daddy” she answered brightly
“Daddy?” I whispered under my breath, as I felt the tears choke.
She ran up a stairway and left the door opened. I stepped in , taking an appraisal of the living room .
The portrait was just there, staring at me . It felt like a slap on the face, there was my birth father , standing next to a woman that wasn’t my mother , with a young girl and boy , which I can assume to be the children. That should be mummy, Stan and I.I stared in disbelief, I felt suffocated, the tears I held , rolled slowly down my face. Should I tell mummy?what about Stan?. I thought to myself .
The footsteps brought me out of my train of thoughts. I looked up and there he was. The man I’ve always known as father, staring at me with his new daughter at his side.
“Baby girl, this is Sophia’ he stated
‘Baby girl’ I muttered with a scoff
“Sophia, this is Trisha, my daughter “ he stated with no guilt in his voice or eyes
“We can speak outside “ he continued as he placed his hand at my back directing me towards the door
I shuddered in disgust as I stepped away ,
“Outside?” I questioned
What’s wrong with inside?” I asked
“ I know why you’re here, Sophia and if you want answers you’ll have to do what I say “ he replied
I stared at him while the thought of telling his new daughter the truth about her father rushed in.
“Please” he said to me .
I walked outside with my arms folded across my chest I looked at him for my answers
Trust me when I say, I was better of not knowing the truth.
At that point , I realized my father had always been selfish
“ How do you leave a family you started alone, penniless, dejected because you got tired?” I questioned him in anger
“ You wouldn’t understand “ he stated
“Then explain to me” I said
“Explain to me , father “ the word tasted like sand on my tongue
“ I don’t know how else to say this , but I loved you all, I still do, but I just couldn’t stand the sight of you guys. So I left. To start over “ he stated while putting his hands in his pockets
“ You guys?” Mother stood by you, every single night you came home drunk, she understood the financial burden even when we all know it was your fault the company went bankrupt!” I screamed at him.
“ Why? , she needs all the love now, she needs you now the same way she was there for you. Here you are having fun with your new family meanwhile, mother is very ill,, Stan needs his father and.. .” I stated angrily
“What about me?” I questioned with tears in my eyes.
“I’m just 17, daddy please , you have to come back home, mummy needs you. We all miss you” I pleaded
“I’m sorry, Sophia” he said
“I can’t, you and your mother will have to figure that out without me. “ he stated
“I wish you well” he continued when I made no response
“Well I don’t, I sincerely hope , nothing works out for you, I hope you keep on repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I hope they do what you did to us , in the most painful way. I hope you die alone, with the same pain I feel now” I spat angrily.
I stormed out, with the feeling of betrayal bartering at my chest ,refusing to look back at the man I once knew as my father while the tears flowed freely with the decision to not tell Stan or mother about my discovery.
Presently..
The clatter of the utensils, drew me out of my thoughts. I wiped the few tears that escaped during my reminiscing.
“Sophia ” Paris screamed in her usual delight as she hugged me from behind.
Paris and I have been best friends for three years. She’s the best thing that’s happened to me for these few years .
“Hi Paris “ I said with a smile on my face
“ Please tell me you aren’t doing a night shift today” she stated with a pout on her face
“ Why would I say that, I need the money “ I said with a sad smile
“ We haven’t gone out in ages, please let’s have fun” she pleaded
Paris..” I began
“Sophie , please . I’m relocating soon. We won’t see as much. I’ll miss you badly. I just need one night for both of us to have fun and make memories. “ she stated
I sighed because she wasn’t lying.
It’s been long we’ve actually had real fun. I’m always in the bakery shop, working. I honestly needed a break.
“ Alright. Just one night doesn’t seem like a bad idea." I said with a grin
She shrieked in delight and looped her arms with mine.
“ You’ll have the best night of your life, I promise “ she said to me with the brightest smile , while I hoped she was right
I couldn't help but feel a flutter in my chest as I got ready for my date with Leo.He had been courting me for weeks now, sending flowers to my class, inviting me for brunch and even talking with me before I slept. It was all so...surreal. Unlike him I might add.As I put on my favorite red dress and did my hair, I couldn't help but feel like a princess. Leo had a way of making me feel like I was the only person in the world, and it was a feeling I couldn't get enough of.When he arrived at my doorstep, he looked dashing in his black suit and tie. He handed me a bouquet of one of my favourite flowers, tulips, and smiled at me with those piercing hazel eyes."You look stunning, Sophia," he said, his voice low and husky.I blushed, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "Thank you, Leo," I replied, taking his arm as I held my purse in my other hand.As we walked to the car, I couldn't help but notice the way Leo looked at me. It was like he could see right through to my soul, like h
“He tells me he loves me, but I don’t know what I believe.” I said to Paris on the phone.“How do you feel…what does your heart tell you?” She asked me as I scrunched my brows downwards.“That I can trust him, his affection seems familiar but…I don’t know.” I told her as she chuckled lightly.“You don’t know what?” She asked me.“Like…what about Jayden?” I asked her with a heavy sigh.“What about him?” She asked me.“He’s been there for me…I actually remember most of our moments together.” I reminded her.“Well, it won’t be fair to him, if you like Leo and you’re still in a relationship with him.” She bluntly stated.“So what now?” I asked her.“Do what’s right.” She said to me.“Which is?” I asked in frustration.“I don’t know, Sophia.” Paris answered.“But I need to know.” I said with a loud groan.“You alone know what you want…what makes you happy.” Angela chimed in.“More like who makes her happy.” Paris added.“You’re right. I’ll think about it later.” I stated.“Procrastination
I told everyone about the new findings and we all decided to play smart about it.Leo and the police officer took care of majority of the case while I recuperated. As it turned out, Allicent later had a conversation with Victor in the holding cell.Victor had been trying to negotiate a plea deal, after we gave him the information that Allicent had been trying to reduce her sentence by passing the major blame on him,but Allicent had realized that he was trying to save his own skin by betraying her.In a fit of rage, Allicent had confronted Victor, who had sneered at her, telling her that she was just a pawn in his game.Allicent snapped, realizing that she had been played all along. In a desperate bid to take control of the situation, Allicent decided to confess, to take the spotlight away from Victor and shine it on herself. It was a bold move, but one that ultimately sealed her fate.As the trial came to a close, Allicent's lawyer stood up to make her final statement. But just as she
Three days later , the police came to visit me again. "We've found something," they said. "A suspicious wire in the car's engine."I felt a wave of fear wash over me. "What does it mean?" I asked. The police officer hesitated. "It means that your brakes were tampered with.. Someone wants you dead."I felt a wave of anger wash over me. Who would do such a thing?“Meaning I’m not safe.” I stated in despair.“I will advise you to take precautionary measures as the investigation continues…an officer or two will be on standby here in the hospital”“Thank you, Officer” Stan said as the man nodded and left the room.“What now?” I asked the two men that were with me. Stan and Leo.“Now, we brain storm” Leo remarked.Leo and I followed up on leads and interviewed witnesses. We discovered a surprising connection between Victor and Allicent. Some parts of her story seemed confusing. We decided to meet with Victor too before Allicent."I want to come." I demanded as Leo looked at me with a frown.
I was in a hospital room, surrounded by beeping machines and sterile white walls.A figure sat beside me, holding my hand. It was a man with piercing hazel eyes and chiseled features. He looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place him."Who...who are you?" I stammered. The man's face fell, and he looked at me with a mixture of sadness and concern. "Sophia, it's me, Leo. We've been together for a while now."I frowned, trying to remember. But my mind was a complete blank."I...I don't remember," I whispered.Leo's face crumpled, and he buried his face in his hands. "Fuck...no," he muttered, his voice shaking with emotion. "This can't be happening."The doctor came in, a somber expression on his face. "Sophia, you've been in a terrible accident," he explained gently. "You were driving home from the court room when a truck ran a red light and slammed into your vehicle."I felt a wave of panic wash over me. "What...what happened?" I stammered. The doctor hesitated before speaking. "You su
“Hey.” I said to Allicent as she looked up at me from behind the cell.“Hi.”“How are you holding up?” I asked her.“Chained” she said as my smile faltered.“Deserving of course.” She added before standing and approaching me.“Yeah.”“So what happened in court?” She asked me“Well, I gave my statement honestly…Victor threatened me” I replied as she gasped.“What?” She asked in surprise.“Yeah…crazy, I know” I said.“In court?” She asked with disbelief written all over her face.“Unbelievable” i stated.“You’re scared of him aren’t you?” She asked me as I gave a light shrug.“I thought seeing him face to face liberally would help…but I think it made matters worse” I told her as she nodded in understanding.“It takes time I guess. I’ll give you hint…he’s just some deranged cousin of mine” she said to me.“Is that why you aren’t scared?” I asked her as my brows furrowed in confusion.“One of the reasons I guess” she said as she chuckled softly.“Makes sense” I said .“When is your trial
