Kiara made herself comfortable on the bed and opened up to the very first chapter of the book. She ran her fingers over it, as if unsure the words would remain. When the words did not disappear like she feared, she expelled a shaky breath, then began reading. There are legends that are not just legends, and myths that are not just myths. We are one of them. Within the confines of this pack’s borders, we exist, and we are different from everyone else - different from them in a way that fear them, in a way that has them gritting their teeth and wondering who we are. You too may be wondering the same thing now, are you not? Who are we? What is this myth that we are? Have you heard of Lycans?Kiara’s heart stopped and dropped to her stomach, and if not for the fear that the moment she shuts the book, the words will disappear, she would have done just that and stopped reading. There is no way. Lycans were not myths, they were real, she knew that much, but she also knew that every Lycan
Kiara woke up with a gasp, drenched in her own sweat, her skin prickled and she guessed it was from the dream - although nightmare was a more befitting term – she just had.She saw her parents at a temple, undoubtedly the Salutis temple, and a man, too pale to be human had his hands around their necks and he didn’t let go till they dropped on the ground, limp and lifeless, looking the same way they did when she discovered their corpses months ago.The prickling on her skin doubled as she recalled the dream; it felt like her skin was smeared in hot Chilli, and instantly, she removed the duvet from her body and jumped off from the bed, thinking that the duvet was the source of her problem, but despite the coolness of the room, her skin still burned.A piece of paper was on the bedside table waiting for her; I am leaving early for some pack checkup, I don’t know when I’ll be back. The code to the safe is 0404.She smiled then dropped the piece of paper, and rushed to the bathroom, hoping
“Gwen, we are going to have a talk later,” Devon said as he and Kiara rejoined the group in the living room. In response, Gwen raised her glass then took a sip.Everyone settled into a comfortable silence, but Kiara squirmed uncomfortably in her seat, thanks to Alfonso’s gaze that was pinned on her.“We have not really met,” Kiara broke the silence, her gaze firmly pressed on Alfonso, who just shrugged in response.“I have been busy with pack duties.”“I guessed as much. You are Alfonso, right? The Gamma.”“Yes, I am in charge of collecting information for the pack.”Kiara nodded, then reached for one of the drinks on the table and took a sip, she was taking another sip, when Alfonso spoke again, “Tanya, your best friend, she lost her pregnancy about a week or two ago.” Kiara choked on her drink.“Why the fuck would you say that?” Gwen barked, while Devon patted Kiara’s pack softly.“I’m fine, I’m fine.” She mumbled when she finally stopped coughing and met Alfonso’s unbothered gaze.
Devon immediately grabbed Kiara’s hand and dragged her upstairs. Kiara tripped on her feet multiple times as she struggled to keep up with him as he dragged her across the hallway. He only let go of her once they were in the confines of a room, and he locked the door twice behind them.“What is wrong with you? Why did you have to drag me like that?” She tossed the book on the bed and massaged the wrist Devon held onto throughout the drag. His eyes immediately went to the book, and he picked it up. “How did you get this?”Kiara narrowed her eyes, “it was among the pile of books that Gwen delivered to me, and she said they were from you.”Devon sighed loudly and pinched the spot between his brows; this particular one wasn’t meant to be delivered, at least not yet. Turning his back on her, he opened his bedside drawer, tucked the book in there and locked it in.“Read the other ones, that one is not for you, yet.”“Is that meant to be a joke?”He arched a brow and she took a step towards
Kiara was served dinner not too long after Gwen left, and if not for the pain the hunger subjected her stomach to, she would have left the food.Once she had taken a bit of the food, she showered and retreated to bed. She packed the books onto her bedside table, and she was about to force herself back to sleep, but after minutes of turning and tossing, she sat back up and picked up one of the books. It was a history book; The History of Akira Pack, she rolled her eyes at how obvious the title was, and she was about to get comfy and dive into the book, then she recalled Gwen’s words and her eyes narrowed.Gwen talked about A book, not the books. Her eyes darted back to the pile of books, and she scooped them up and dumped on the bed, then began going through them.7 out of the 8 books had very generic titles and looked to be recently written and published, but one of the books that was buried in the middle of the pile; that caught Kiara’s attention and she grabbed it.The Forgotten His
Devon grazed his bottom lip with his teeth, he knew the question was coming, that does not mean he was prepared for it.Answering that question honestly means unraveling secrets that are way older than they are, secrets that people before him gave their lives to protect. But she was his luna, she cannot lead without knowing whom and what she is leading.“You promised you’d answer honestly,” Kiara’s voice slashed into his thoughts and he sighed.“I did promise that, and I do want to answer your questions. It’s just… hard.”“Why? What is so difficult to tell me, I am your mate, and I am to be the Luna, or already is the luna given what happened between us. Why should it be so difficult? Or else you…” she paused and her brows scrunched together. Of course, this is it. “You don’t trust me.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement, and she immediately stood up from his body as though he burned her.She lingered, waiting for him to deny the accusation she hurled at him, but she didn’t.
