Kiara Sorde, is betrayed by her mate and Gamma's son, Kristen, when he strips her of her position and makes her a rogue, subjecting her to a cruel fate without a pack's protection. But the moon goddess offers her a second chance through Alpha Devon, a feared alpha and the leader of Akira Pack, the leading pack in the werewolf community. Kiara is however scarred and will only agree to the union on one condition, and Alpha Devon isn’t one to be given conditions.
Lihat lebih banyakKiara was all smiles, surrounded by her friends as she looked into the mirror. It was her 19th birthday and the hall downstairs has been decorated in a birthday theme fitting for the daughter of an Alpha, but that was not the only reason she was so excited.
“Are you ready to finally find your mate?”
“How excited are you?!" Two of her friends, Tanya and Chloe asked, and she blushed.
Werewolves found their mates when they both turned 19, which is why dating is strictly forbidden in the community and it made everyone overly excited to finally find their mates, and Kiara was not immune to all that. She had been looking forward to finding her mate for as long as she can remember and today was finally the day. She tried to keep from guessing who it was, but she has been playing guessing games in her mind all day.
“Alright, time to make our bets before she goes down to the hall.” Chloe started and brought out the 50-dollar bill in her bag, “my shot is on Alex, he has been making eyes at her since his 19th birthday.”
“My bet is on Christian; they’ve been friends for a very long time. I’m sure the moon goddess would make them a match.”
Kiara rolled her eyes and stood up, showing her red gorgeous ball gown. She took in her face coated in delicate makeup and smiled. “If you guys are done betting on my future, can we go down now and find out who it is?”
“Yes!” they both chimed at once and opened the door for her to lead the way, and Kiara walked away with the both of them trailing behind her.
She expected to be hit with the scent of her mate and be overpowered by an urge to go meet him like she read about, but there was absolutely nothing like that. She didn’t feel anything different, she felt oddly normal and it sent certain signals up her brain; what if she ends up like the werewolves who never found their mates?
Before she could give in to the thought, her parents appeared before her and pressed kisses against her cheeks. “Happy birthday, Princess, you look absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking.” They chorused even though they already wished her at 12 AM, and a bright grin covered her face.
“Thank you, mummy. Thank you, daddy.”
“I hope you will enjoy your party and at the end of the day, we hope to see you latched onto someone’s arm,” her mum, Luna Camilia said, and her dad interjected almost immediately.
“And if you are not latched to someone’s arm at the end of the night, that is absolutely fine as well sweetheart.”
She rolled her eyes jokingly at her dad. She knew he meant well and was just being over protective, but the mere thought of not finding her mate by the end of the night absolutely terrified her.
She knew some people like Jane, who didn’t find her mate at nineteen, and she had witnessed the life get drained out of her and she does not want to be one of those people. Absolutely not. She has to lead her pack, and she must have her Alpha Consort for everything to be perfect.
“Go and have fun, sweetie. Your friends are all waiting for you.” Kiara snapped out of her thoughts to meet her mum’s smile and bobbed her head swiftly.
The scary thoughts cast birthday blues on her, so she dragged her feet away from them into the crowd that was filled with her friends, acquaintances, schoolmates, and random pack members, who didn’t fail to wish her a happy birthday whenever she waltzed past them, and slowly the the birthday excitement creeped back up.
Every thought of a mate rolled to the back of her mind and she enjoyed every bit of her party. From dancing, to having a few drinks, playing games, singing karaoke horribly, every bit of the activity that went on filled her with joy, but that came to an end when the hall started emptying out and Chloe and Tanya ran up to her, wiggling their brows as they smiled mischievously.
“Soo…” Chloe dragged out
“Found him yet?” Tanya completed, and Kiara’s smile faltered, instantly Chloe and Tanya’s smile vanished. “Are you okay?”
“I haven’t found him,” she tried to keep a brave front and a smile on her face, but the tears pooling in her eyes gave away the pain she was feeling, “I am so scared that I will not find him, I don’t know if….” The rest of her words were drowned out by a strong smell and her eyes widened.
“Oh my god,” she breathed out and before she could fully process it, her legs started moving on its own accord, and her worried friends followed closely behind to make sure she was not about to do something silly.
The closer Kiara got to the backdoor, the stronger the scent got, and she found herself holding onto her gown as she started running. The moment she made it out of the door, the pack’s Gamma’s only son, and one of the most handsome men of the pack, Kristen, stood there with a knowing smile on his face, while Kiara panted as she tried to catch her breath.
“Hello mate,” he whispered, and released his hands that had been tucked behind his back all these whiles to reveal the bouquet of flowers he got for her and a smile so huge it felt like her cheeks were about to burst open.
“You knew,” she breathed out and took calculated short steps towards him, “why did you come so late then?”
“I wanted you to enjoy your day properly,”
Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink and she took the bouquet from him. “Thank you, Kristen.”
“Usually, when mates meet each other there is a long moment of embrace, why have…” Kiara didn’t let him finish his sentence and dramatically flung herself in his arms.
Chloe who had watched everything was grinning from ear to ear, but Tanya looked pale as a ghost, her eyes firmly pressed on Kristen who carefully avoided her gaze.
Kiara was deliciously sore from all the fun she had at night and early this morning, yet the soreness was not the reason she was frozen in place, shuffling uncomfortably from one foot to the other.Eliza nudged her playfully as one of the women in the wards gave her a knowing look like they’ve been doing all morning.Kiara had run down to the hospital this morning to check on the children, and to her relief, she found out that most of them were awake, and the rest were getting there - whatever blessing her copulating with Devon was meant to give them had been passed out successfully and she was immensely relieved. The hostility that she associated the ward with disappeared, and she conversed freely with the women, who once hurled insults and fists at her. What she did not expect however was for the conversation to move rapidly from the health of the children to the reason they all got healthy.“Thank you for all you did, the glow of it looks good on you.” One of the women, her mother’
Devon stood at a corner of the room, looking at Kiara who occupied the bed. The tips of Devon’s ears burned, but Kiara’s face was scarlet red; everything was all too awkward for them.“Should initiating sex be this awkward for mates?” Kiara whispered and Devon forced a laugh.“We’re quite peculiar, I guess.” He forced himself out of the wall he perched on, then took a seat beside Kiara. Reaching out, he caressed her face softly, then lifted up her chin with a finger so he could look into her eyes. “The worst is already over, we don’t have to force this.”Kiara’s mouth dried up and she swallowed, nodding in agreement as she did. “You’re right. The worst is over.” Relief coursed through her body and she heaved a breath when the realization that her words were true hit her.“Blue really is your colour. It suits you.”She smiled and swatted at his arm playfully, “don’t go about trying to butter me up.”“I’m being honest. You are beautiful.”Lowering her gaze, she smiled even more. “Thank
The three of them stilled and the eyes widened simultaneously in panic as the cries from the ward increased, then they took off running back into the ward.Parents held onto their children, who seemed to have gotten paler in the last minute and Kiara staggered backwards; she would have fallen on her butt if not for Devon’s steadying arm around her waist. “What is going on?” Devon asked, his voice shaky and Eliza immediately rushed to the nearest child and did a checkup. She did a checkup on two more children, then walked back to Devon.“It’s the spell. I think Ketura’s presence here has triggered something.” “Then we’ll go to them. Stay right here and do all you can. We must not lose anyone, Eliza.”“I will do my best, Alpha.”Grabbing Kiara’s hand, he dragged her behind him and off the both of them went. He drove like a crazed person once he was behind the steering.“We must not let Ketura see us panicked, she might try to spin that to her advantage,” Kiara said as they neared the
Devon tapped his fingers on the table absentmindedly while Luka and Alfonso updated him on the preparations for the coming festival. It was the most important festival for the Akira Pack, and the most dangerous for him as the alpha, thanks to the role he has to play on that day.“Are you listening?” Luka asked, his brows furrowed and Devon snapped back to reality.“Yes, what were you saying? My mind drifted off.”Luka and Alfonso shared a look, the festival was too important for his mind to be drifting off when a debriefing about it was going on, or else whatever it is he’s thinking about is more important, which it ought to be.“What has clouded your mind?” Alfonso asked and Devon tensed up momentarily.Truth was, Kiara’s skepticism and her curiousity were eating him up. He didn’t really consider the possibility that she might not believe what she will read, or accept it. Now, he has been forced to confront that possiblity, and it was unnerving. What would become of them? Would she c
“Have you had a meal today?” Devon asked and Kiara shook her head, she got to reading the minute she returned from the run. Sucking his teeth, Devon shook his head in disapproval. “I’ll get you something to eat. Any preferences?”“I am okay with whatever you choose.” He eyed her suspiciously then nodded briefly and walked away. Once he was gone, Kiara shut the door and made herself comfortable on the bed. She wanted to ignore the book, at least until she ate, but at the sight of it, she immediately grabbed it and flipped to the page she left off. The Dark ages encompass the century of the war. It started off small with just four alphas of Lunar Fang, Ridgewood, Shadowmoon and Guardian pack. They sought to be like Lycans and began a secret dangerous practice that involved hunting infant lycans and torturing them in order to mutate their powers. This went on for a decade, and their actions all proved abortive, so they became wilder. Their group of four suddenly grew, all thanks to
Kiara made herself comfortable on the bed and opened up to the very first chapter of the book. She ran her fingers over it, as if unsure the words would remain. When the words did not disappear like she feared, she expelled a shaky breath, then began reading. There are legends that are not just legends, and myths that are not just myths. We are one of them. Within the confines of this pack’s borders, we exist, and we are different from everyone else - different from them in a way that fear them, in a way that has them gritting their teeth and wondering who we are. You too may be wondering the same thing now, are you not? Who are we? What is this myth that we are? Have you heard of Lycans?Kiara’s heart stopped and dropped to her stomach, and if not for the fear that the moment she shuts the book, the words will disappear, she would have done just that and stopped reading. There is no way. Lycans were not myths, they were real, she knew that much, but she also knew that every Lycan
