Two

Rivette’s pov 

  

My disabilities never mattered to my father, Alpha Darius of the Blue Crystal Clan. He raised me like a fragile glass, protected fiercely but loved gently. He taught me to fight even without a wolf, to speak without shame. 

Later on, he adopted Ruby, giving me a companion, someone whom I thought was my sister. 

Ruby had a wolf, soundspoken, beautiful, she was quick to steal the spotlight wherever we went, so much that people believed she was actually the Alpha’s daughter and not me. 

I never minded, only ever happy that she didn’t feel out of place. 

And then she and Kiel had fallen in love, long before they even turned eighteen, and begun dating. Everyone certainly believed that they were going to be mates- they were so in love.  

However, on the night of the full blood moon, I and Kiel realized we were destined mates. Kiel stood on rejecting me and getting mated to Ruby instead. It broke me. But I believed the overpowering love of mate bond could change his mind. 

My father had been delighted then about the union, and together with Luna Sheba, Kiel’s mother, they persuaded Kiel to accept me. 

An arranged marriage was set up between us and we finally got married, much to the dismay of several people. 

I had been a fool. I thought I could earn his love. I thought he would soften towards me. 

And then Ruby wrote a suicide note, noting how I pushed her into taking her own life with poison, after taking the love of her life from her. 

And then she vanished. 

Kiel's hatred grew towards me like poison vines, twisting tighter with each passing year. After my father died, I seemed to have no shield left- no where to run to especially since he automatically reigned over his clan and my father’s, Inheriting the debts he left behind.

He blamed me for everything. For Ruby. For the past. For his mother’s betrayal. For his misery, his lack of an heir. 

Every day of our union, he ensured he made me regret ever living to think I could ever earn his love. 

And now Ruby was back, and like a corpse he was going to discard to the side like all those years of my sacrifice, silence and support of his abuse and mistreatment and humiliation didn’t matter to him. 

As I walked back into the office, Dr. Callista didn’t even let me sit before she spoke. 

Her brows punched as she stared at the scan, the blur glow of the monitor reflecting off her glasses. She was also a latent Wolf like I was. “Rivette… the fetus is unstable.” 

For a moment, I could swear the walls of the room seemed to be closing in on me. I had forgotten how to speak or breathe till she turned to me. 

“U- unstable? W- what does that even mean?” My voice cracked embarrassingly, thin and frayed. 

She got up to stand behind me, indicating towards the screen now turned towards me. “See this fluctuation? That’s usually caused by a high intake of suppressants. Contraceptives,” I turned to her mid sentence , consumed by so much shock to comprehend the pity in her eyes. “Your body has been fighting something for a long time. 

My mouth turned dry in seconds. “But- “ 

“I know,” she said softly. “Someone else has been tampering with you. But what is important right now is that this child needs its Father’s energy from the mate bond to anchor. Without him, the instability will worsen.”

My throat clenched as I tried to find my voice, more from dread than happiness. Several thoughts floated in waves in my mind- but who would do this. I wasn’t favored amongst the Omegas and I barely had friends- I sure as hell know Kiel wouldn’t try to feed me Contraceptives. 

I thought I’d be happy, but all I could feel was this deep seated nausea that wouldn’t leave me. “I have to tell him.” 

Callista squeezed my hand. “And really soon. If he knows there’s a child, I know that brute will think twice before abandoning you.” 

She reached for something on her table and handed me the prenatal documents and some medications. “Any second here is a second late. You have to go now.” 

I swallowed, bid her a reluctant goodbye as she wished me luck. However as I stepped out of the hospital, my heart raced in my chest, my fingers curled around the ultra sound print in the bag, hope filling my chest. 

For the first time in weeks, something inside me felt light- bloomed into warmth and relief at the thought of finally breaking the news to him. 

I almost smiled as the pack mansion came into view. If I told him, maybe the cold icicles in his eyes would melt a bit for once-

However , the moment I stepped into the compound, my face etched into a frown as a wave of nausea hit me- more from a sickening feeling of something going wrong. 

I could see my luggage, my clothes- my things all laid out on the yard like trash. Around me, the Omegas whispered in hushed voices, giggles, but I ignored them, stepping inside with determination in my tightly squeezed fists. 

Haana, one of the elder Omegas rushed towards me. “Luna Rivette. Welcome. The Alpha has a guest. It’s the- “ 

“Ruby.” My heart lurched and I swallowed, seeing the pain and dread in her eyes as she swallowed her words. “Where is- where are they?” 

“Inside.” 

Everything inside me numbed as I headed for the lounge room and without hesitation, pushed the door and walked inside. I prepared myself for the scene ahead of me, but I couldn’t help stop breathing, seeing them together. 

A small gasp left my lips as tears welled in my eyes. 

I hated how Ruby’s radiant beauty left me speechless for a full minute- her perfect body was curled around Kiel on the sofa while she smiled sweetly at his gaze, dressed in ivory silk. 

His arm rested behind, his eyes soft and yielding towards her. For a full minute, It felt like my presence in the doorway was a speck of dust the wind could take. 

Ruby caught my eyes first, and the malicious gaze she rewarded me made me sick to my stomach with rage before her lips curled into a sweet, deceitful smile that didn’t match her eyes. 

“Sister!” She quickly leaped off the sofa and approached me. 

Without sparing her another glance, I stepped to the side, avoiding her touch, my eyes burning forward, at Kiel. 

“Is that it? She returns from the blue and you have me humiliated once again- my things have been thrown out like I’m a dog. Is that all I’ve been to you?” 

He didn't flinch, not at the crack in my voice, the way my eyes were filled with hurt as ours locked when he rose. 

“You can’t be around. Not when Ruby will be staying here. Her health is poor, no thanks to the poison you so kindly gifted her.” 

I swallowed, my pulse thundering in my ears. I knew nothing about any position, but my words would fall to the ground knowing he’s bent on believing after all these years that it was me who had urged her to take her life with poison. 

“I am your Luna. You took an oath!” 

“An oath I have lived to regret since the moment I took it!” He thundered, towering over me with eyes flashing with rage and deceit. Ruby leaned into him, trying to console him before she turned to me, humor glinting like a blade in her eyes. “You have no right to remind me of an oath. You tried to kill your own sister.” 

“What is she still doing here? I thought I had the guards ensure she wouldn’t step a foot inside.” Someone’s voice boomed behind me. 

From behind, Liam, Kiel’s Beta walked in, coming to stand beside the couple. I felt ganged up on as their eyes bored into me. 

Just like Kiel, Liam had bore a hatred for my existence since he set his eyes on me. I couldn’t seem to know why- not even after- 

My eyes burned into each of theirs before it fell on Ruby. To them, she looked frightened under my gaze, like there was something disturbing about my presence - the way I looked at her. 

“I forgive you sister. For a long time, I really tried to understand why you hated me so much, even after you made me give Kiel up, but- “ 

“She’s lying…” I couldn’t stop the tears now as they rolled down my cheeks while I fired at Kiel. “Kiel I can’t believe you’d even believe her. I am your wife! I would never even hurt a fly. Poison? That’s ridiculous- where would I even get- ” 

“Enough!” His voice demoted like thunder, his aura rolling off his body in waves, forcing me to freeze in my spot, shoulders shaking, while Ruby tucked her head into his chest, seemingly sobbing. 

“Have her name, her price. It’s obvious she’s not leaving without anything- not after her father kept her in so much debt.” Liam snickered, clearly offended by my lingering presence . 

“Excuse me?”

“You heard him- “ I turned to Kiel who spoke in disbelief. “Name your price, Rivette. Whatever it is that will get you off my back- anything to have you leave this Clan and never look back.” 

“I- “ 

“Come on, Princess,” Liam snickered. “You can quit pretending. You have nothing else to loose. So just- “ 

“I’m not leaving. I- I can’t.” My voice trembled but my gaze was indignant as I glared straight at Kiel, ignoring Liam. 

“There’s nothing for you here.” He stared into my eyes with disgust. “You can- “ 

“I’m pregnant, Kiel.” Silence blanketed in the room, I could sense Ruby tense in Kiel’s arms. “I’m with child. Your child.”
