JULIA

I looked at my phone and saw multiple texts from Evan. I read through them quietly, biting my lip.

“Did you get home safe?”

“Is Andy alright now?”

“I’ll try talking to my dad. I’ll have the doctor fired, too.”

“Julia, please just acknowledge my message.”

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. Why does it feel like he’s suddenly making an effort?

I shook my head and sent him a thumbs-up emoji. At least, I hoped that would silence him for a while.

I walked through the empty hallways. I was pretty early since Andy didn't have a class today. Well, it was my discretion not to let him go, knowing he deserved to rest after everything he went through yesterday.

Coincidentally, Sarah didn’t have any work, too, so it checked out. They were going on a little date today, so I arrived early...a little too early.

To my surprise, as I entered the classroom, Mr. Matthews was already there. I stopped in the doorway, my eyebrows raising in surprise.

It seemed like he wasn’t expect

Julia was really dumb not to suspect anything.. She didn’t even suspect Mathew might have some evil intentions towards her by inviting her to the party , as naive as ever

ISLA“I swear, if you’re not dating him by next month, I’ll eat a spoonful of wasabi,” May said, pointing her chopsticks at me like they were weapons.“I second that,” Krista added with a wide smile. “Isla and Theo. It’s giving childhood-friends-to-lovers energy.”“We’re not lovers!” I sputtered, choking on my boba tea.Krista snorted. “Okay, but weren’t you married back then? Theo said you were.”“That was when we were five!” I groaned, burying my face in my hands. “He made a ring out of some wildflowers and declared it in our backyard. That doesn’t count!”“Oh, but you never took it back,” May teased.I peeked at them through my fingers. “I had no choice, okay? Our parents are friends. We grew up together. We were just always... there.”“Mmhmm,” Krista said, completely unconvinced. “And now you’re still always there.”“Really romantic of him to share his fries with only you yesterday,” May added, twirling her drink.“It was one fry,” I muttered. Both of them cackled while I wallowed

The mansion was unusually warm that afternoon—not from the sunlight pouring through the tall windows, but from the sheer number of baby toys scattered across the marble floors and the smell of fresh food wafting from the kitchen. For once, the dads had done it all. The long dining table was perfectly set, the centerpieces arranged, drinks poured, and dishes hot. The wives were banned from lifting a single finger.“You’re the queens today,” Evan had declared earlier, with a dramatic bow. “No objections.”Sarah and Julia didn’t argue, of course. But they feared for the quality of the food they were going to eat.Outside, Isla and Theo were waddling around the backyard, giggling as they chased bubbles floating through the air. Sarah was lounging on the sun chair, sunglasses on and juice in hand, while Julia trailed behind the kids with a camera. The squeals of joy filled the air like music.Inside, the kitchen was a scene of chaos. Evan wiped his hands on a towel and gave the roasted chi

EVANThey always say pregnancy is a beautiful journey. I agreed to it—to some extent. However, it was also chaos. Pure, raging, hormonal chaos.Sarah and Julia were pregnant at the same time. That alone sounded absurd. We were happy, of course, but then, the disasters came.“I think I’m craving sour mangoes dipped in soy sauce and also maybe bubblegum,” Julia said one night as she lay on the couch, glaring at the ceiling. The worst part was that Rui got dragged into it too. Sarah had even worse cravings. So there we were—me and Rui—sitting in the car at 1:43 a.m., waiting for a drive-thru employee to hand us two of the weirdest snack combos anyone’s ever imagined.Rui let out a low laugh, completely delirious. “We’ve been out every night this week. I’m starting to think we’re the ones nesting.”I passed him his bag of pickle-flavored chips and peanut M&Ms. “You think?”He sighed, looking out the window. “It was supposed to be a happy time.”I nodded. “And instead, it’s a war zone.”We

SARAHThe beeping was the first thing I heard. Then the smell of the hospital invaded my senses. My eyes fluttered open slowly. The ceiling was unfamiliar. I tried to sit up but felt the tug of something in my arm. It was an IV.With that, I turned my head and saw Rui sitting by my bedside. His hair was messy, and he looked like he hadn’t slept. There were faint shadows under his eyes, and he was wearing the same shirt from yesterday, now wrinkled. His eyes widened the moment he saw me awake.“Sarah,” he breathed, leaning in quickly. “Hey, hey—thank goodness.”I blinked, still dazed. “What… happened?”“You fainted, my love. You scared the hell out of me.” He reached out, brushing hair from my forehead with shaking fingers. “They said you were dehydrated, stressed, and…”I closed my eyes for a second. He must have known about it already.Rui hesitated. Then, softly, “You’re pregnant.”I didn’t answer. Instead, I looked away, focusing on the IV line in my arm.“Sarah,” he said again, vo

SARAHI lit the last candle on the dining table and stepped back to look at everything one final time. The roast was done. The vegetables were warm. The wine opener was next to the fresh bottle of wine. And the soft music in the background made our apartment very romantic. We had moved here just this year, and Rui shouldered every cost even though I got promoted to Heath’s position. I never thought it would come to this, but here I was—living a very comfortable life.Everything felt perfect, except, nothing ever was. And in our four years of being together, it was impossible for everything to be smooth sailing.I look at my reflection in the mirror in the living room. I even wore the dress he liked—the navy blue one with the low back. The door clicked open. I turned, my heart racing, but the moment I saw him, it fell just a little.Rui looked exhausted. His tie was half undone, his blazer slung over one arm, and his hair was a mess—he must’ve run his hands through it too many times.
