4. Brother's Mate

Eva POV

I didn't attend the dinner with my brothers. I had two problems there. One, my mate, and second, my wolf. I wasn't ready to accept that dismissive look of his. My wolf was hurting. I already knew Jake would have attended the conference. I promised those innocent wolves to help them. So I had to attend this. From the morning I had a hard time pushing him out of my mind and concentrating on the meeting. Would he get affected the way I had affected in his presence?

I spent the rest of the evening with my grandparents and family. It had been a long time since I met all of them. I had dinner with a few of my cousins at a restaurant. They insisted I stay for movie night. As I had to start back to my pack early in the morning, I politely rejected them and return to the hotel. I heard knocks on my door. I opened the door and was greeted by two pairs of light green eyes, my brothers. I opened the door completely and invited them inside.

"Do you had your dinner?" Evan asked standing at the door frame. I nodded.

"Xander asked for you", Ryan said. Again I nodded.

Xander was 23, yet not found his mate. So, his parents suggested him to chose a mate and take over the throne. Well, they had even chosen one for him. It's me. We both like each other. We weren't ready for this chosen mate thing. My whole family liked him. They might be happy if I had mated to the alpha prince. They would be more than happy if I found my true mate. So, they didn't force me.

"Had you packed your things?" Evan asked.

"I didn't even unpack my bag", I chuckled.

"How's the dinner?" I asked. Evan was about to answer. Ryan perked up his head and sniffed the air. He quickly marched out of the room. Evan and I exchanged a known look and followed him. I was excited to meet his mate.

He turned towards the left corridor. When we turned left, we found him holding a girl near to him. She was a brunette. Her hair was long, thick, and wavy. She wore a pale pink silk dress. I observed bruises on her hands. Before we understand what was happening, someone pulled her away from Ryan. He growled loudly. Alpha Maverick trying to pull her with him.

"Leave me", she was struggling. Then I had seen her worn-out grey eyes and hand prints on her cheeks. I could say, she didn't have a good time before.

"Leave her", Ryan growled his wolf trying to take over.

"You had nothing to do with her. Fuck off", Maverick spat.

Ryan ripped him away from her. Actually, his wolf was acting. That girl fell down. Ryan was about to go to her. Maverick held Ryan by the neck. Evan never stands any threat to his brothers. He pulled Maverick away and pinned him to the opposite wall.

"I got her", I went near to her and help her to stand.

"Take her away", Ryan ordered. Before we ran away, two men stood behind us. His beta and Gamma

"Kill her", Maverick ordered. His beta went to his aid. Gamma tried to attack us. I kicked him and he fell. By all this commotion, other alphas and betas from this floor came to us. Few forcefully separated my brothers and Maverick.

"What happened?" Alpha Nicolas of Coastal pack asked. He was an old friend of my father.

"They tried to kidnap her", Maverick said.

"She is my mate", Ryan growled.

"He was trying to kill her", I said.

"She is from my pack. I'm here to take her back", Maverick said.

"He was trying to rape me", Ryan's mate said and cried. She was shivering. Ryan growled and pinned him to the wall.

"Is that true?" Nicolas asked.

"No", Maverick spat and tried to get out of Ryan's hold.

"Ryan, leave him", Nicolas said. Ryan didn't listen to him. Maverick and Ryan were growling and their wolves were on edge. Evan asked Ryan to leave him and Ryan did.

Suddenly I smelt my mate. I looked around and found him in the crowd. He saw me and looked away. I turned my eyes back to my brothers. 

"Girl, tell me what happened?" Alpha David of the Rising Moon pack asked. He was the oldest alpha among everyone. He would retire in a few months and his son will take over.

"He tried to rape me. I escaped from him and crashed into my mate", she said in a shattered tone.

"She's lying. I found her here. I tried to know what she was doing here. She escaped from me", Maverick said. I didn't trust that asshole.

"He was lying", She cried "He... He..." She was about to say something but stopped. She paused for a minute and lowered her head. I observed a slight smirk on Maverick's lips. Maybe he threatened her through the pack link.

"He threatened her", I said. It's proofless, so everyone ignored me.

"What were you doing here?" David asked. She bowed her head.

"Enough of this discussion. Everyone should leave", Maverick announced and was about to take Ryan's mate's hand. She moved to my back in fear.

Ryan stood before us. "She is not coming with you", he said.

"She is from my pack", Maverick said.

"She is my mate", Ryan yelled.

"It's not safe to send her with Maverick", Evan said.

"With whom do you want to go?" David asked. She didn't answer and lowered her teary eyes.

"Come with me", Maverick ordered using Alpha tone. She obliged.

"You better don't use that tone", Nicolas said in a loud tone. Ryan held her back.

"She will stay with me", I stated.

"We will present this to King tomorrow", I said.

"It's the better idea", Alpha Theo of Valley pack said. He was my friend.

Eventually, everyone agreed. All went back to their rooms. I took her to my room. She was crying all the while. She sat on edge of the bed. I poured her a glass of water and she drank. I took out a t-shirt and pants from my bag. I think I should unpack my bag. I wouldn't leave the next day.

"I'm Eva, Eva silver", I said.

"Skyler Rogers", she said.

"Change", I said offering clothes.

"Thanks", she sniffed and accepted the clothes. She went to the bathroom. I phoned reception and ordered a light meal. After that, I sent a text to Ryan saying that she was fine.

Skyler came out after some time with a better look. When I met Stella, we immediately became friends. It was very easy. But this time was different. She was in a bad state. I didn't understand how to initiate the conversation. We sat in silence for a few minutes. The sound of a calling bell disturbed our silence. I opened the door and the food was there.

"I thought you were hungry", I said.

"Thank you so much", she said and tears started rolling down again.

"My brother won't appreciate it if he would find that I made you cry", I said. She chuckled slightly. I handed over her plate.

"What's the name of your brother?" she asked in a low tone. I giggled. She didn't even know his name but trusted him and Ryan jumped into a fight with an Alpha for her.

'Fuck you, Jake', I said to myself.

'Stop cussing him', my wolf said. I ignored her. Skyler was looking at me waiting for an answer. I sat on the bed before her.

"Ryan. And you have to call him Ry", I said. She smiled.

"Why? Does he like to be called like that?" she asked.

"No. He hates that short name. And I want to see what will he do if his mate calls him like that", I said.

"Why does he hate that name?" she asked.

"Aww, too curious to know about the mate", I said in a teasing tone. She blushed.

"Tell me about you", I was excited. Her face became dull. Then I realized that I picked a sore topic.

"Only if you are comfortable", I added.

"I need some time", she said in a low tone. I nodded.

"What about a movie?" I asked.

"Better", she said.

When we were watching the movie I got a call from Luca. I thought he learned about the situation already. I took my mobile and went to the balcony. He was highly excited for Ryan. I said everything. I gave him her name. He said he would look into it. After some chatter, I went back.

"Ah, I missed that fight", I whined.

"No worries. We can skip back", she suggested and took control. She was about to press playback but left the control. She started shivering.

"What happened?" I asked sitting beside her. She started crying.

"He mind-linked", she mumbled.

"What he said?" I asked.

"He threatened to kill my parents if I meet king tomorrow. He wanted me to leave", she said in a shattered tone.

"It's okay", I rubbed her back.

"Tell me where can we find your parents? We will save them", I asked.

"I don't know", she said. I didn't expect that answer but that was quite usual.

"He blackmailed you. That's why you kept quiet outside?" I asked. Her sobs answered me.

The doorbell rang suddenly. Who it could be? I got up to open the door.

"It was him. It was him... Don't open the door. Don't... Don't", she tried to pull me back.

"Let me see", I assured her.

"He will kill us. Don't go", she continued to protest.

"I will see", I said. I opened the door and it was Evan. Right behind him, Ryan was coming towards us with a bag.

"It's my brothers", I said to her and she already smelt them.

"How is she?" Evan asked. Ryan was about to go in pushing me aside.

"Stop", I said.

"She is not in a good state. Better handle well", I said in a warning tone.

"Don't teach me", he scoffed.

"By the way, what's her name?" he asked. I was about to say.

"Don't say. I will ask her", he said with a bright smile. I moved aside and they came in. Ryan sat on the bed before her. I closed the door behind us and stood with Evan

"Her parents were in danger", I said to Evan in a low tone. He nodded. Ryan introduced himself.

"If you don't mind, tell us about you", Evan asked.

"God, give her some time", Ryan yelled.

"We don't have time", Evan answered.

"Don't mind him", Ryan said.

"Trust us. You are our future gamma female. We will protect you with our lives", I said.

"You are family", Evan said.

"Thank you", she said with teary eyes.

"Don't force yourself", Ryan said holding her hand. I never saw this extremely soft-natured Ryan before. Usually, Evan was gentle with everyone. Of course strict and harsh by profession but humble and gentle by a person.

"It's okay, I will tell you everything", she said wiping her tears.
