Clara's POV

After the severing ritual, under my grandfather's protection, I felt no discomfort at all.

My birthday celebration was held in the castle garden.

Moonlight cascaded over white-linen tables, and champagne sparkled in crystal flutes.

I wore a gown the color of liquid moonlight, basking in a happiness I thought I'd lost forever.

"To Clara's new life!" Grandfather raised his glass.

"To freedom!" Asher also raised his, his eyes full of blessings.

"To the future!" I said with a smile.

The chime of crystal on crystal was as clear and sweet as angel bells.

This was the first time in three years I had felt truly happy.

No fear, no pain, no betrayal.

Only people who loved me and hope for the future.

"Clara," Asher whispered in my ear, "you look so beautiful right now."

"Is it the glow of freedom?" I joked.
