IVY.

I sat up in my bed as my mother walked into the room. She sighed.

“Ivy, your father has decided he won't be a part of this.”

What was she talking about?

“He wanted to pull out of the partnership with Mr. Stone because he believes it's nothing more than a bribe. But the contracts have already been signed. I've tried to talk to him, but he insists that your relationship would be strictly business.”

I felt Zander stiffen beside me. I knew Dad wouldn't have a favourable reaction to this, but h

IVY.Before leaving Nia’s office, I called my driver to bring the car over. I couldn't bear another annoying Uber driver. The car came, and I told him to drive home. He drove in another direction before I realized he was taking me to Zander's place.I told him to stop. I couldn't imagine going back to that house. At least not yet.I told him to drive me to my parents' home. I didn't know how my father felt about all of this. Everything was happening all at once.We got to my dad's house, and I had to wait a bit in the car. I didn't know how to face them or what to even say. I just knew I had to do something.I got down and walked slowly to the house. I entered, and as usual, everywhere was quiet.I went straight to the kitchen, expecting to see my mum, but she was not there.I wondered where she was. My next stop was the study to check on my dad. He was also nowhere to be found. I checked all the rooms, and they weren't there.I sighed, deflated. I made my way out of the house and hea

  • His Sister's Shadow   CHAPTER SIXTEEN.

IVY.Everyone had left, leaving me alone with the silence. I struggled to process what had just happened. I went from celebrating the fact that my father's company had been saved to losing everything I had worked for over the past few years.I didn't know how to feel towards Zander. I was thankful that he helped me, but then he went ahead and pulled this on me. Logically speaking, I knew he had every right to do this, but it hurt nonetheless.I packed my things and headed to what was now my old office. I got there and my things were already being moved. It wasn't like Zander was going to be here all the time. I didn't know why he felt the need to take what belonged to me.I sighed and decided I'd had enough for the day when I got a notification from my calendar. I had an appointment with Nia, my therapist. Great. I loved how this was going. Today was the perfect day to get scrutinized.I sent an email to Nia, confirming that I'd be present at today's appointment.I checked my dad's of

  • His Sister's Shadow   CHAPTER FIFTEEN.

IVY.I woke up confused. It took me a moment to remember where I was. I groaned, dragging a hand over my face as I mentally prepared myself for the day ahead.I reached for my phone to check the time, only to realize I'd slept in. Perfect.I hated mornings like this. Rushing always made my anxiety worse, so I forced myself to move quickly without panicking. I'd learned long ago that the more frantic I became, the more likely I was to make mistakes.Thankfully, I'd already picked out my outfit the night before.Within minutes, I was dressed and heading downstairs. I pulled out my phone to text my driver to bring the car around when I caught sight of Zander standing outside."Took you long enough."I frowned. "Excuse me?""We're going together. Get in the car."I swallowed my sigh and followed him.Today was going to be a very long day.The ride to the office was thankfully short. Neither of us spoke, and I wasn't about to break the silence. We had a board meeting scheduled to discuss t

  • His Sister's Shadow   CHAPTER FOURTEEN.

ZANDER.She's different from what I expected. I knew she was strong-willed and not easy to push around. But her walls? They seem impossible to break down. And one thing I'm going to do is break them down. Her anxiety is also worse than I thought. She was sitting across from me after I'd decided to show her who was boss. She was inhaling her food, and I didn't think much of it. I thought she was just hungry, so I focused on my food. After a while, I looked up, only to see her holding herself back. I wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't staring, but it looked as though she was physically restraining herself from eating. She suddenly looked up and caught me staring. I held her gaze for a while, and then she looked away.I finished eating, and when the bill came, like earlier at the mall, she was trying to pay. It amused me. I paid for our food, and we made our way out. I wanted to pull her closer or drape my jacket over her shoulders as the air outside had grown chillier. But I restrained m

I still didn't understand what was going on.He went on and on about leaving on a clean slate after two years.“Why marriage?” “Why not another option?” “You could loan us the money.” I started

IVY.After I got home , I ate dinner alone. I knew it was pointless trying to get both my parents down. I just had to find a way to fix this. ZANDER.I recognized her almost immediately, when the elevator doors opened. She looked slightly different from the pictures I saw from that night. It was almost unnoticeable, but I saw the way she hesitated before entering the elevator. She almost squeezed the life of the innocent stress ball she

  • His Sister's Shadow   CHAPTER TWO.

IVY.I spent the rest of the night trying to figure out what to do. I emailed companies that had shown interest in us in the past. I waited for their responses, but the few that I got already showed a dead end. I was about to shut down my laptop when I saw the email. It wasn't like the rest. I star
