Finn's POV
Seeing father, Elijah and Liam at the front of the mansion was the least I expected. A warm welcome? No way! If it had been only Elijah, it would suffice but father and then Liam that hated me with everything he had inside of him, I doubt. Rolling my eyes, I slowly approached the trio with North by my side. North never went below my expectations. Her acting skills were now on a whole different level making one think we are level headed when it was the direct opposite. It was supposed to end there but father decided to take it further, “Are you guys really married?" His question didn't come as a surprise to me. I was expecting him to toss it at us the moment we appeared before him but he delayed it. North tried to speak but I held my hand. She might be good but not when my father was involved. He wasn't someone she would be able to go against. “You watched the marriage on TV." I shot at him. “The media presents whatever it's handed to it. It doesn't separate fake from real and to the best of my knowledge, there are a lot more fake things aired than real.” That was my father. Plain. Sugarcoating words to make his audience feel good was a skill he lacked. "I agree with you.” Liam mouthed, crossing his hands on his chest. Nodding at North, he said, "No sane pretty girl will get involved with a psychopath like him.” "He is not.” North said but before she could start running her mouth, I grabbed her hand more firmly this time. "Would you like to see the certificate, or should we kiss for proof?" I smirked, alternating my gaze between father who was unfazed and Liam. Elijah let out a low laugh only to earn a glare from Liam. He was pissed with my response and that was the exact reaction I wanted to get out of him. “If indeed this marriage is not a sham, give me five minutes with your wife." Liam huffed. “Why? You want to buy her off with money?" “Finn." North yelled from behind me. “Is this why you called me for a family dinner? To embarrass me and make yourself feel good, huh?" I am getting really angry now. “Come on Finn, it's enough now." North chided. Pushing me aside, she tried to speak to my father but I wasn't going to let that happen. “Take her away." I snapped. I didn't have to say it twice before Elijah interlocked her arms with hers, leading her into the house. “Disrespecting your father in the presence of your wife…” "You started it.” I cut in. Locking eyes with my father as my chest rose and fell in rhythm. Liam stepped forward, narrowing his eyes at me with his hands folded on his chest, “You coerced her. She didn’t marry you willingly.” “Got proof?” I huffed, matching his intimidating gaze. “Listen to me Finn," Father said. Shifting my attention to him, I let out a low sigh, my hand stuck in my hair. “If this is a sham, make it real, otherwise you will have yourself to blame if anything happens to the company I had struggled to build for twenty years." He didn't wait for my response before he walked off, leaving me with Liam. “You heard what father said." He smacked his lips, crossing his hands on his chest. “Are you scared?" I muttered watching the way his face got drained of its colors. “If anything happens to the family business, you are going to be at the receiving end so you better don’t provoke me.” "Are you threatening me now?” He let out a bitter laugh. "It's not a threat, I'm just asking you to stay away from me and North, stick your nose to the ground and act like we do not exist.” My voice was stern and dripping with venom now. I should have known Liam wasn't one to give up easily even when he was going to end up being beaten by me. “You separated from her three years ago and out of the blue you two are back together." He said after me, causing me to halt. Laughing, I tilted my head to the side. "I had no idea that Liam Timber was interested in me.” I muttered, a little laugh rippling from my throat. “Why should I be interested in you? You are just one of those random issues that pops up once in a while, don't think highly of yourself." He howled. "I can only stop being an issue if you own up to the fact that I’m better than you and no matter what you do, you won't be able to beat me.” The way his eyes darkened made my heart do a backflip. I knew the right words to say to him and they always work like magic each time. Instead of slamming back at me, Liam lunged at forward but Elijah who had just rejoined us, caught him by the arm. “Stop it,” Elijah said. “Both of you.” “You two always do this, you couldn't pretend in front of her.” She huffed, the main door banging shut slightly. North was back. I looked away with a clenched jaw while Liam on the other hand was still fuming. “I’m done,” I said, brushing past them. “Finn,” a voice said behind me. North. I turned slowly, my face void of any emotion. Now standing next to me, she interlocked her fingers with mine and without saying a word to me, she led me in the opposite direction. I didn't resist her. I wanted this too. I wanted to leave father and Liam, I wanted fresh air to clear my head. Just a few meters from the water fountain, she halted right in front of me with her hands folded on her chest. The calm expression on her face had changed into something else and I knew exactly what was going to follow.North’s POVWith Lex gone, I pushed my hand into my hair, a satisfied smile spreading on my lips. I was glad that I had put her in place when she tried to push me to the side. “She has guts." I muttered, turning around to leave but Finn grabbed my arm. "You're leaving just like that.” He mumbled. "I didn't come out here to meet you.” I said, yanking my hand off his grip. Holding my robes together, I mouthed, "See you inside.” I was going to leave again but he stopped me. “Did you really kiss me?” He asked, his tone low and unreadable, like he wasn’t sure if he should challenge me or pull me into his arms again.I didn’t answer him directly, instead, I raised my chin, studying his face like it was the first time we were meeting. “I just saved your life,” I huffed before turning away and stepping into the compound like the brief kiss hadn’t nearly short circuited my entire body.Still gripping my robes, I started walking quickly, not out of confidence, but because I could feel my
North’s POVIt was the weekend so I decided to take a day off to recharge and get ready for the following week which had been packed full with different activities for me. Before I woke up that morning, Finn was gone. I hadn't seen him last night and this morning too, he left without even saying a little hi to me. To relax, I made my way to the balcony, wearing a satin robe with nothing but a bikini inside like I was at the beach. With crossed legs, I was flipping through the pages of the romance novel I was reading but I wasn't going past the first few paragraphs which I had re-read more than three times. The words blurred before my eyes for the third time in less than ten minutes. I wasn’t even following the story anymore. My eyes might have been trained on the book, but my mind was elsewhere. It had been a few days already but my mind was still consumed by the memory of the event I had attended with Finn.Correction: the event I walked into alone, after Raiden asked me to. Let
Finn’s POVThe lights in the bar were dim as the low music from the DJ’s speaker was humming in the background..It was not too loud to disturb the atmosphere but just enough to drown the thoughts that were clawing at my head.About fifteen minutes ago when I arrived, I went to the far end of the mahogany counter, making myself comfortable in our usual booth. While waiting for Raiden, I began to swirl a glass of scotch between my fingers like it held all the answers I couldn’t say aloud.Friday nights were routine for me and Raiden’s. It had been a habit from senior high school and even after fifteen years later, we still maintained the routine. It is a time where we talk about everything that went on during the week, setting us up for the new week.Leaning forward, I pushed my hand into my hair as I let out a low wince.“North." I mumbled, biting the side of my lips. Out of everything that had happened that week, it was hers that occupied all the space in my head. Swirling the sco
North’s POVLast night, I went to bed in fury because of Liam. I didn't even pick his call as it was the wrong timing. Just when I had set things straight with Finn, his call came in disrupting everything. This morning, Finn was gone even before I woke up. I didn't bother making breakfast as I couldn't eat alone so I got ready and went to work. At the moment, I was sitting behind my desktop, scrolling through my emails which were filled with declined offers.I was almost giving up when an email from Caleb’s company popped up on my screen. With my heart in my mouth, I clicked on it, staring at the screen of my laptop as the bold header stared back at me like a dream I hadn’t dared to have. Even now, rereading it for the fifth time, it didn’t feel real.He wanted me, not as a chef but an event planner for his engagement party. It felt so surreal that I felt myself floating in the air. My lips parted in disbelief for the hundredth time as I scanned the lines again for confirmation.
North's POV The event stretched for two more hours and by the time they were done, I was drained of all my energy. My whole body ached like I had worked overtime but still, I enjoyed every bit of it.“I will give you a call." Isla said, blowing me a kiss as Caleb opened the door of his vehicle.“Should I do that for you too?" Finn asked, his face a few inches from mine as his cologne messed with my head. I wanted to grab him by the cuff of his shirt and gobble him up that instant. “Let's go." His voice snapped me back to the present as he intertwined his hands with mine.To live up to Isla’s theory of having the perfect marriage, I was clinging to Finn and he reciprocated all of my acts. The moment he shut the door of his car behind me, I slid through the chair, letting out a relieved sigh as my head was pounding and my cheeks hurting from smiling too much. “Your seatbelt." Finn said as the engine purred into life. Snapping my head to face him, I saw that his jaw was clenched an
North’s POV“Then we should put on a show, what do you think?" Finn asked, sliding his hand over my waist as he pulled me to himself. Before I could realize what was going on, his soft lips were against mine, his tongue tangled with mine. When he finally pulled away, I was out of breath but he looked normal. The fact that he still had an effect on me even after all I had done to keep him at arms length was killing. “Shall we?" He asked, nodding at our reserved table at the front of the hall.“Sure." I nodded, allowing him to lead me to our table. It was my first time attending one of these high society events as a guest and not a caterer or staff member. And honestly? It felt like I had just stepped into another world. The ballroom was the epitome of grandeur, ornate chandeliers dripped from the ceiling, marble floors that gleamed under the dim lighting, and guests adorned in designer labels with perfect posture and curated smiles. There was a rhythm to it all. Waiters floated
