Lila’s POV

Aurelia’s voice drifts through the chatter.

“So, about those tickets to Italy…”

I scoff inwardly, biting back a laugh that isn’t funny at all. I can’t believe she’s talking about that right now. Trying to secure her territory already? She’s not even grateful that I let her join our team, and now she’s trying to push me aside? Well, what should I expect from someone who’d do anything to keep her supposed lover wrapped around her finger— a woman who sees affection as a prize, not something earned.

I roll my eyes to the ground. Anyway, what will I even be doing in Italy? The thought sits bitter on my tongue. It’s better if the both of them go together. At least that way, I’ll have fewer problems for myself—if only for a little while.

Before Aurelia can finish her sentence, I cut in, my tone calm but sharp enough to slice through her syrupy voice. “You don’t have to worry about me,” I say, forcing a light smile. “I don’t have any interest in traveling anyway.”

Her eyes flicker,

  • His Tears, My Freedom    124 All over again

Liam’s POV“Then you need to give it a try.”Those were my mother’s words after I finally told her everything.About the fragments of my childhood that have started to return. About the memories that no longer come as silence, but as waves. About Lila.About how she had always been there. Long before life split us apart. Before the fire. Before everything went wrong. My mother had gone quiet after that. Sad in a way that felt heavy. Because the girl she had always wanted for me, the one she believed would steady my life, was the same girl I had once sworn to protect with everything in me.If only I hadn’t let my foolishness ruin it.If only I hadn’t pushed her away back then… when she trusted me, when she needed me the most. But my mother was right. If I wanted even the smallest chance at redemption, I needed to know the truth. I needed to know what Lila remembers. She said she knows who I really am now. But she never said how much she remembers. If she remembers everything, then I ow

  • His Tears, My Freedom    123 Shifting interest

Lila’s POVI look into Lior’s eyes and for a moment, the world narrows to just us. His gaze is steady, searching, as though he’s trying to memorize my face in case it disappears. His arm tightens around my waist, not possessive, not controlling, but protective in a way that feels almost desperate. Like if he loosens his grip even slightly, I might shatter right there in his arms.I stay still. I let myself exist inside this moment. His chest rises and falls against mine, and I feel the solid thud of his heartbeat through his suit, strong and certain. It anchors me, pulls me into something warm and grounding, something I strangely find myself indulging in.Then a voice slices through the air.“Lior.”The sound snaps the moment clean in half.I slowly pull away from him, reluctantly, as if peeling myself from safety. I turn, sweeping my hair over my shoulder so I can see her clearly.Aurelia.Her face is flushed, red blooming across her cheeks, fury tightening every line of her expressi

  • His Tears, My Freedom    122 A breath too close

Lior’s POVIt’s Monday again. The office feels heavier on Mondays, like the walls remember everything I didn’t finish the week before. I barely have time to settle behind my desk when the door opens.Dave steps in.He crosses the room without ceremony, reaches the table, and drops a thick file in front of me. The sound is sharp, final.“Here’s the report from the team we were supposed to meet with over the weekend,” he says. “They compiled everything remotely.”I glance at the cover. It’s the full briefing on the new innovation for the car launch we’re spearheading. Performance upgrades. Design recalibrations. Market projections. Months of work condensed into paper.I press my lips together and pick it up, flipping through the pages. The numbers are solid. The concept is bold. On paper, everything looks perfect.Dave speaks again.“About what you asked me to look into,” he says carefully. “We were able to trace the motorbike to Velox Logistics, one of the companies contracted for food

  • His Tears, My Freedom    121 Proof

Lior’s POVThe doorbell rings, sharp and insistent, cutting through the quiet of the house.I groan under my breath as I push myself off the couch, dragging my feet toward the door. It’s late. Too late for visitors. I already sent Dave home for the night. Unless he forgot something… but even that feels unlikely.I pull the door open.Aurelia stands there. My yawn dies instantly.I stare at her, confusion replacing the sleepiness in my eyes. “What are you doing here?” I ask.She looks at me the way someone does when they’ve rehearsed every word in their head and decided silence will make the louder entrance. Without answering, she steps past me and walks straight into my house.I stand there for a second, stunned by her boldness, before closing the door and following her inside. What exactly has she come to say now? And why at this hour?My flip-flops make soft slapping sounds against the floor as I head to the kitchen. I open the fridge, grab a bottle of water, and twist the cap off.

  • His Tears, My Freedom    120 What she remembers

Liam’s POVIt’s been hours since we got back.I’m still seated in the chair, unmoving, while my mother puts Zara to bed in her room. I can hear her soft voice through the hallway, the gentle rhythm of a bedtime routine that stretched longer than usual because they spent the entire evening catching up. Stories, laughter, whispered questions. Time stolen back after years apart. My eyes stay fixed on the empty space in front of me.The smile I’d been wearing fades slowly, like it was never meant to last. The day crashes back into me.Lila.Lior beside her.The way she looked at me.The calm finality in her voice when she told me to stay away.I push up from the chair abruptly and walk to the window. The night sky presses against the glass, dark and endless, and it sends a rush of emotions straight into my chest. I take a deep breath, then another, dragging my hands through my hair as if I can physically shake the thoughts loose. It doesn’t work.I pause mid-motion.A thought settles in,

  • His Tears, My Freedom    119 The card she holds

Claudia’s POVMy hand lands across his face for the third time.Hard.The sound echoes sharply in the room as his head snaps to the side, his body staggering before he forces himself upright again, returning to stand directly in front of me. His hand never leaves his back, posture bent in submission, loyal like a dog that knows better than to run.I lift a brow slowly, disappointment etched deep into my expression.“You mean to tell me,” I say calmly, “that you missed her and couldn’t get the job done?”He nods. The moment he does, I strike him again. It’s almost automatic now, a rhythm I’ve fallen into since he walked in and admitted failure. He braces himself this time, jaw tightening, shoulders stiffening as my palm meets his skin.Again, I position myself before him.“So,” I repeat coolly, “you failed?”Another nod.Another slap.My fingers leave angry prints on his cheek, red and unmistakable, but I don’t stop. And he doesn’t move. I keep hitting him until I lose count, until the
