Lila’s POV

I stay still, my hands gripping each other tightly at my side as Aurelia’s heels click once more, slicing through the silence. She takes a slow step forward, every movement deliberate. The scent of her perfume curls through the air — something expensive, intoxicating, and sharp enough to sting the back of my throat.

Her lips curve, painted and perfect, but her eyes gleam with something darker — amusement, cruelty, a quiet kind of madness.

“Hope you like my warm welcome?” she says, her tone sweet and venom-laced, like honey hiding poison.

I say nothing. My voice, my body, even my breath, betray me — frozen.

Aurelia tilts her head, studying my silence. A low laugh spills from her lips, soft but chilling. “Just a heads-up,” she says, voice light, almost playful. “You might want to sit tight, because there’s more coming. I’m going to drain your will to live, piece by piece, until you become nothing but a shadow of who you were — a forgotten name in mine and Lior’s story.”

  • His Tears, My Freedom    117 Sink in

Lila’s POVI am not angry. Not mad either.Just… pissed. Not in a sharp, explosive way. More like a quiet irritation that settles in my chest and refuses to leave. The moment with Liam still echoes in my head, leaving me restless and oddly light at the same time. It makes no sense. I should feel relieved after setting boundaries, after saying what needed to be said, yet there is a faint, unwanted warmth tangled up with the discomfort.I stay quiet in the car.My eyes remain locked on the road ahead, unfocused, like I am searching for something I lost but cannot remember where I dropped it. Streetlights pass in soft blurs. My reflection stares back at me from the window, distant, withdrawn.Liam’s face flashes through my mind. The way his expression cracked when I said I didn’t like him.Why should I even care how he feels? The thought comes sharp and fast as my fingers curl around the seat belt strap. He is the same friend I trusted as a child. The same one who betrayed me. The same o

  • His Tears, My Freedom    116 Boundaries set

Lila’s POVI glance down at the meal placed neatly in front of me. Still warm. Still untouched. Then I lift my eyes back to Lior, letting a soft, almost absent smile curve my lips.My mind drifts back to how my friends disappeared so dramatically the moment lunch with him was mentioned.Alessia had been the first to back out, already nudging Sofia and Enzo with exaggerated looks. Something about work needing immediate attention. Urgent calls. Responsibilities they suddenly remembered. Sofia nodded far too quickly. Enzo followed like he was part of a rehearsed play.Excuses. All of them.I know my friends better than that. They’d fled on purpose, leaving me alone with him. Can I even still call this lunch when the day is already slipping towards evening? Either way, I had given them my car keys as they backed out, since I was originally meant to drop them off after lunch.Perfect.I clear my throat, breaking the quiet that has settled between us.“I hope you’re not mad about the other

  • His Tears, My Freedom    115 Exactly where I wanted to be

Lila’s POVI hear his voice before anything else.“Lila… Lila.”Again.And again. It’s filled with so much panic, so much raw worry, that if I weren’t lying here with my cheek pressed against his chest, I might laugh out loud.I don’t respond.I let myself stay exactly where I am, sinking into him like I’ve lost all sense of gravity.Honestly, I knew he’d fallen the moment he saw me at the club. That part was obvious. What I didn’t know was that whatever he felt had grown this big.If only he could hear his own heartbeat right now. Fast. Uneven. Loud beneath my ear.Awww. Poor Lior.Relax. I’m not dead.Just… enjoying this. His cologne drifts around me, warm and familiar in a way that makes my thoughts slow. His voice keeps breaking as he calls my name, sounding more like the distressed one between us. A damsel in designer shoes.Around us, the air shifts.I hear murmurs as people gather closer. Hushed voices. Questions whispered like secrets.“Is she okay?”“What happened?”“Were the

  • His Tears, My Freedom    114 In his eyes

Lila’s POVI clear my throat lightly, palms resting on the edge of the long conference table as everyone settles in.“Okay,” I begin with a smile, glancing toward my friends first. “Before we dive in, I want you all to meet the people who have been with me from the very beginning.”I gesture to my left. “This is Alessia, Sofia, and Enzo. They’re my friends, but more importantly, they volunteered to help me bring this first project to life.”Alessia gives a small wave, Sofia beams like she’s already having the time of her life, and Enzo nods politely, hands tucked into his pockets.Across the table, a woman lifts her head and smiles warmly at us.“And that,” I say, turning slightly, “is Rachael Ferraro, our head designer.”Rachael lifts her hand and gives a confident wave across the table, her bracelets clinking softly as she does. There’s an easy authority about her, the kind that fills a room without trying.“Next to her is Marcelline Duval,” I continue. “Our stylist.”Marcelline inc

  • His Tears, My Freedom    113 Nothing changes that

Liam’s POVI stand in front of the door for a long moment, my hand hovering inches away from the wood. My chest feels tight, like every breath has to be earned. Then a voice comes from behind me.“Excuse me. Who are you?”It’s calm, but guarded, like she’s already bracing herself for something she doesn’t want.Slowly, I turn. And there she is.Her hair is pulled back simply, neat but effortless. Her face looks familiar and different all at once, shaped by time and distance rather than age. But her eyes… those haven’t changed. Deep. Steady. The kind that once watched over me even when I convinced myself I didn’t deserve it.My breath leaves me all at once.“Mom.”The word slips out before I can stop it.Her eyes widen just slightly. Not shock. Not anger. Just recognition crashing into disbelief. We stare at each other in silence, the space between us suddenly too small and impossibly vast at the same time.So this is it.I’m finally here. Standing in front of you. Finally meeting you

  • His Tears, My Freedom    112 Not on my watch

Aurelia’s POVI stay still.I do not move until Lila steps out of the restroom, her back straight, her head held high. I watch her reach the door. I watch her fingers curl around the handle. I watch her leave. The door closes.Click.The soft sound snaps something inside me.My mind reels back, replaying every word she just said as if she is still standing in front of me.Keep the ring. I’ll have him.My breath catches. Her face flashes in my mind. Calm. Confident. Infuriatingly steady. The way she stood there like she belonged. Like she had every right to look me in the eye and threaten me. The guts of her. The audacity to speak my future out of my hands as if it were already hers. She said she was coming for Lior. Not begging. Not hoping.Claiming.Another image slams into my head. Lila at the entrance of the restaurant, lifting her hand in that small wave. The faint smile on her lips. Her voice, low and deliberate, talking about how Lior held her wrist. How he did not want to let g
