Lila’s POV

It’s too late. The door’s already opening.

My breath catches the moment my eyes lock with his—Lior. He stands there in the doorway, tall and still, the faintest shock flickering across his face, like he didn’t expect to see me here. The air between us thickens, heavy and unmoving, as if even the world itself is holding its breath.

I should’ve left. The second I opened that door and saw him with Claudia, I should’ve turned around and walked away. But somehow… I didn’t. Something held me there—something I can’t explain. It wasn’t the invisible hand I imagined—it was me. I chose to stay.

And just when I feel the air shift between them, the soft murmur breaking, I finally decide to close the door quietly and leave—

the door swings open.

He’s right in front of me.

Lior’s lips part, like he wants to speak, but no words come out. His eyes—those deep, conflicted eyes—search mine with a mix of surprise, guilt, and something I can’t name.

Then I catch movement. Aurelia. She’s standin

  • His Tears, My Freedom    71 Freedom’s price

Lior’s POVI thought not picking her calls would be enough. I thought silence would shield me—that if I didn’t answer, I wouldn’t have to hear whatever she had to say or give her a glimpse into whatever truth she was inching to uncover. But I was wrong.Because now she’s here. Not just in calls or threats filtered through Dave. She’s here—flesh and blood, standing right in front of me like the storm I’d pretended wouldn’t come. And whatever it is that brought her all the way down here herself, it’s strong. Strong enough to have cracked whatever barriers I built. My face tightens, jaw locking with tension. My eyes stay on her, unmoving, as I try to piece together how the hell she’s here without me knowing. But the shock hits harder than I expect. There’s no mistaking her voice—or the way my stomach knots in her presence. The word slips out before I can stop it.“Mom?”The word feels strange in my mouth — too small for the weight it carries.Lila shifts beside me. I feel it, even before

  • His Tears, My Freedom    69 The trap

Lila’s POVI stay still, my hands gripping each other tightly at my side as Aurelia’s heels click once more, slicing through the silence. She takes a slow step forward, every movement deliberate. The scent of her perfume curls through the air — something expensive, intoxicating, and sharp enough to sting the back of my throat. Her lips curve, painted and perfect, but her eyes gleam with something darker — amusement, cruelty, a quiet kind of madness.“Hope you like my warm welcome?” she says, her tone sweet and venom-laced, like honey hiding poison.I say nothing. My voice, my body, even my breath, betray me — frozen.Aurelia tilts her head, studying my silence. A low laugh spills from her lips, soft but chilling. “Just a heads-up,” she says, voice light, almost playful. “You might want to sit tight, because there’s more coming. I’m going to drain your will to live, piece by piece, until you become nothing but a shadow of who you were — a forgotten name in mine and Lior’s story.”Her w

  • His Tears, My Freedom    68 Her world

Lila’s POVIt’s a new day. A fresh start. The kind that feels like a soft exhale after a stormy night.I tell myself today is for forgetting. Forgetting everything that happened over the weekend, and believing—just for a second—that it’s all over. That maybe this week will be different. That maybe peace is waiting somewhere ahead. But as I walk through the glass doors of the building beside Lior, that fragile hope starts to flicker. I can feel it—the weight of eyes on me. The whisper of gazes that follow in silence. The air thickens, charged with something unspoken. It’s in the way the receptionist’s smile falters for a second before she remembers herself. The way a few employees at the far end lean closer to each other, pretending to be busy, but their eyes dart back to me like magnets. It’s subtle, but impossible to miss. Their whispers are hushed, yet they seem to echo louder in my mind, pulling at the edges of my calm.I keep walking, the sound of my shoes echoing faintly against

  • His Tears, My Freedom    67 For how long?

Aurelia’s POVI scoff the moment I step in, the sound echoing faintly against the white walls. That curl of a smile sitting on Claudia’s face makes my stomach twist in disgust. She looks far too comfortable for someone who’s supposed to be sick. I move further into the room, my heels clicking softly against the floor, my gaze locked on her. She’s sprawled across the bed like a queen pretending to be fragile. I stop beside her, fold my arms across my chest, and lean forward slightly.“I see the little games you’re playing,” I say, my voice sharp and deliberate, like a blade grazing silk.Claudia’s brows knit together instantly, her expression turning soft in an instant. She forces a faint smile as she says, “What do you mean by that, Aurelia? You should be kind enough to ask how I’m doing at least. Can’t you see I was rushed to the hospital?”Her tone drips with that same sugary pretense she wears when she’s trying to appear harmless. It’s almost laughable.I scoff again, snapping my h

  • His Tears, My Freedom    66 What lies beneath

Claudia’s POVHer voice rings low and deep through the room.“I did exactly what you asked me to.”A chill of satisfaction runs through me, slow and delicious, spreading from the base of my spine up to my chest. I lift my head, meeting the steady gaze of Dr. Isla Davenport — the only person who’s truly known me for years. She’s not just my doctor; she’s my oldest friend, the one who has seen me through every secret, every lie, every carefully laid plan long before I ever stepped into Liam’s world. For a second, a memory flashes — the plan we made back then. How we worked together to make sure Lila lost her baby, to make it look like it was Liam’s choice. We wanted her to hate him enough to leave. And it almost worked… until Liam complicated everything by canceling the divorce, forcing me to play this game all over again.I sigh softly at the thought, the weight of it pressing down my chest.“Do you think you got him convinced enough this time?” I ask, my tone low, curious, maybe a bit
