XXXV: BEFORE ME. AFTER ME.

~XENOS~

“And what exactly did she tell you about my curse?”

Odessa stared at me. For a few seconds, she didn't answer.

Her eyes dropped to the floor, then slowly returned to mine, and something about the expression on her face made the hairs at the back of my neck rise. “She told me that the curse wasn't supposed to reach you.”

I frowned. “What?”

“She said it was supposed to end with your father.” She shook her head. “And not come down to you."

My chest tightened. “

LVI: Helpless.~XENOS~The door opened and Traven walked in.I knew him. She had mentioned him before. He wasn't smiling. His expression was plain, almost blank, as his eyes moved around the room before settling on Roenna."Your Majesty."He bowed before me, then straightened and continued towards her.I watched him carefully. He was the man who had brought the basket. The same man whose name had made Roenna's expression change so drastically that she had practically begged me not to let him near her."What are you doing here?" she asked. Her voice wasn't particularly hostile. If anything, it sounded like a question she had already known the answer to.Traven stopped. "You should be by my sister's side." She added. I looked at her, then at him.He seemed to take a moment to process her words. His eyes remained on her face, searching for something I couldn't quite understand.Roenna wasn't looking at him like someone whose heart had been broken and was still waiting for an apology.

  • His Tenth Breeder: The Lycan King's Saving Grace    LV: Why Him?

LV: Why Him?~ROENNA~I pretended to be asleep. It was easier than explaining why I didn't want to close my eyes, especially when I knew there was a possibility of having another strange dream. I was scared of what I might see, what I might hear, and what I might wake up remembering, but more than that, I was scared for Xenos. He had so much on his shoulders already. The kingdom, the council, the curse, the mysterious woman, and now whatever he suspected about House Tywin. I didn't want him dealing with everything alone. Yet here I was, battling something I wasn't even sure I could survive.I wanted to survive. God, I wanted to survive.I wanted to see my baby. I wanted to watch Xenos become a father. I wanted to have ordinary mornings with him, argue over insignificant things, and complain about how much attention he gave his kingdom instead of me.I wanted a future. A long one filled with happiness. One where our bond would last forever or for as long as we lived. I eventually go

  • His Tenth Breeder: The Lycan King's Saving Grace    LIV: Allowing My Own Hurt.

LIV: Allowing My Own Hurt.~XENOS~Her answer lingered in my mind long after I had put her to sleep. "I don't know, Xenos. I can't decide what happens until then."I had wanted an answer. Something definite. Something that would tell me what to do if the person responsible for everything happening to her turned out to be someone we knew. But Roenna hadn't given me one. Perhaps she couldn't.I stood beside the bed for a while, watching her sleep. My hand rested against her stomach, and I felt my wolf settle slightly at the sight of her.She was there. My mate was there, breathing peacefully, carrying our child. For now, that was enough.I eventually left the room and made my way to my chambers. He was seated at my desk, surrounded by kingdom records. Several documents were spread across the table, and from the look of things, he had been working on the reports I was supposed to review earlier. He glanced at me briefly before returning his attention to the papers.I said nothing. Inste

  • His Tenth Breeder: The Lycan King's Saving Grace    LIII: Guilty? Then You Decide.

LIII: Guilty? Then You Decide.~ROENNA~"Your reaction reminded me of that day, Xenos." A smile formed on my lips as I said. His brows drew together. "What day?"I was about to answer when he interrupted me. "Tell me about the night you almost got raped by the guard in the garden."His patience was visibly wearing thin, and I couldn't help the little smile that crept onto my face."I hope you're not about to kill a guard." He looked like he was about to, though."You think I wouldn't?" One of his brows rose. "I don't mind burning in whatever punishment awaits me. Hell, the underworld, or whatever exists beyond this life. But I'll make sure whoever disrespected my woman pays for it first." His jaw tightened. "Who was the guard, Roenna?"I didn't answer. Instead, I watched him, a small smile still resting on my lips. There was something about the way he looked at me, the way his anger seemed to have found a new direction simply because someone had hurt me, that made me feel cherished

  • His Tenth Breeder: The Lycan King's Saving Grace    LII: That Night

LII: That Night~XENOS~"Ask him what he did." Roenna's words lingered in my mind long after she spoke them.I looked at her, searching her face for an explanation, but she seemed just as bewildered as I was. Her fingers were wrapped tightly around mine, and there was something in her eyes that told me she wasn't playing games.I turned to Landrace. He looked perfectly ordinary, perfectly composed, and perfectly unaware of why a king might suddenly question him.My mate's reaction had been anything but ordinary. Roenna had flinched at his approach. Her wolf had reacted to him in a way she didn't look like she understood. Somehow, that same wolf had asked me to question him.I didn't understand what any of it meant. But I had learned never to dismiss my mate's instincts."Landrace."The healer straightened. "Your Majesty?""What did you do?” I held his gaze. His eyebrows rose..For a moment, he simply stared at me, as though he expected me to explain the question. Then he gave a small

  • His Tenth Breeder: The Lycan King's Saving Grace    LI: The Voice From Inside

LI: The Voice From Inside~ROENNA~The moment Xenos walked back into the room, I knew something was wrong. He didn't say anything. He simply crossed the distance between us, wrapped his arms around me, and pulled me against his chest with a desperation that made my heart ache.I stiffened for a second, surprised by the suddenness of it, before slowly melting into his embrace. His arms tightened around and I closed my eyes."I'm sorry," I whispered, but he didn't respond.I lifted my head slightly, but he only pressed me closer, his chin resting against my hair. Beneath my cheek, his heart hammered against his chest, beating so rapidly that I could feel every frantic thud.He was frightened. My Xenos, the man who commanded an entire kingdom without blinking, was frightened because of me."I'm sorry for making you worry," I repeated, my voice barely audible. "I didn't mean to scare you."
