Sophia’s POV

I hadn't stopped thinking about Petra and the words that came out of her mouth.

Was I falling in love with him?

That was impossible. It had to be.

Yet, I found myself reminiscing about every single time his lips had touched mine.

I felt his touch a thousand times all over my body like his hands had never left.

What was happening to me?

I thought to myself as I let the shower water run over me.

I had been in the shower for a while now; it was the best place to do all my thinking

Nikolai’s POV“Get Petra here. Now.” I paced around the office, furious.Jack glanced at the financial records spread across my desk. “Did you find something?”“Months before my wedding, Moretti paid her through Belmont Financial. She's been working for him the whole time.” I stopped, my eyes burning with rage. “She betrayed us.”Jack went still. “That bitch,” He said. “You know I never liked her; she always seemed a little bit psycho…”“Get her,” I ordered. “Now.”Jack shrugged. “You know it will take some time to find her. I asked you not to let her go without evidence; now she's out there doing God knows what with all the information she had about us.”My jaw tightened as I ran my hand through my hair. “Just find her, Jack. Do your job.”Exactly two long hours later, Petra waltzed into my office wearing a smug smile on her face.“I see you've come to your senses.” She said as she approached my desk, “I'll accept your apology for letting me go, Nik…”“Sit.”She glanced between Jack

Nikolai’s POVI had listened to the recording a million times today, and somehow, hearing my child’s heartbeat still made my heart race. I sat behind my desk staring at the ultrasound photograph we had gotten on our way out of the hospital. It was surreal to think I was going to be a father, with the woman I loved—the woman I had betrayed.I didn’t give a fuck about having an heir to continue the legacy I had created; all I wanted was to have this baby. Hold them, watch them grow, and be someone they could be proud of. I wanted to be someone she could be proud of. My mind wandered to thoughts of my father; I wished he was here, but maybe it was time to let go of all the anger I had about him not being here.I had to, for them.“You’re cancelling the expansion?” Jack blurted as he burst into the room.I looked up at him; he had walked in, staring at me like I had a clown written on my forehead.“Postponing,” I said simply.“That’s three territories this month.” He raised his eyebrows

Sophia’s POVI stared at Nikolai’s message for the fifth time that morning.‘Still okay for me to go with?’ I had agreed three days ago, and though I had overthought it for days, I knew I wanted him there. Yet he still didn't seem convinced. The old Nikolai wouldn't have cared what I wanted; he probably would have shown up without asking and ordered me into his car, and probably threatened the doctor just to top it all off. But this Nikolai? He was different, and that scared me, not in a bad way.It felt like I was getting to know him all over again, without all the baggage. ‘Yes, Niko. Just don't be late.’ I sent it, and he responded immediately.‘I'll be there on time.’I rolled my eyes at his overachieving response; of course he would be.***Things had been relatively quiet since the creepy baby rattle. Sure, Nikolai’s men stuck out like a sore thumb around the building, but I felt better knowing they were there, and knowing Nikolai was watching me.I walked into the clinic, an

Nikolai’s POVI looked up at Jack as we drove over to Sophia’s; he knew what was coming next.“Does she know?” He asked as he looked up at me, studying my every move since we both found out I was about to become a father.I stared out the window of the passenger seat, right beside Jack. “Does she know what?”“That you're taking her back to the mansion?”I shrugged. “She will.” I hadn't thought it all the way through. “I want you to put more guards on her. Four more outside her apartment building. Two inside, and the second we get her back home. Nobody leaves without my approval.”I could feel Jack’s eyes on me for a second before he turned his gaze back to the road.“Say it,” I ordered.“Nothing.” He shrugged.I looked at the road ahead, knowing Sophia wasn't going to like any of this. But I wasn't going to leave her in that apartment when Moretti was planning God knows what.“Nik, you might want to think about this a little more.”“I have thought about it.” I retorted. And it wasn't

Nikolai’s POVI curse, “Get out of there, Jack.” I said as I placed my hand on my gun and focused on the surroundings of one of Moretti’s warehouses.“I still have a couple of grounds to cover.” Jack’s voice echoed through my earpiece.“I told you to take more men with you. For fucks sake!”“Careful, Nikolai. You are starting to sound worried about me.” Jack joked. This wasn't the time to joke. Moretti and his men were going to be here in less than five minutes, according to our sources, and we weren't done booby-trapping the joint.“Get in and get out.” I said firmly, “That was your order.”“Slow your horses. Rolling out now.”The warehouse doors open and Jack runs out.“Go! Go! GO.” I bark.Ivan starts the car as soon as I get in, speeding towards Jack and the other men.“Whohoo!” Jack screams the moment we begin to make our great escape, “That was close.”I grunt to myself, “You almost got my men killed.”“Relax. We made it out before Moretti and his merry clowns got there.” He smi

Sophia’s POV“That’s it. I’m quitting work to be a trophy wife.” A frustrated Amaya slumps on the bed while I get ready for work in my apartment. She had stayed the night because, ‘she didn’t want me to be lonely’ but there was more to it that she wasn’t saying quite yet. I’m guessing her date last night didn’t go well, plus, like me, she had her day job to get to.“Trust me, being a trophy wife isn’t all that great.” I responded based on my fair share of experience as Nikolai’s pretend trophy wife, who still got cheated on.I felt a pang in my chest at the thought of that. Sure, the marriage was a sham, but the feelings between us weren't. At least that was what I thought, but boy did he prove me wrong.Amaya grumbled as she rolled in the bed, “I’m just so sick of bad dates.” She abruptly got on her feet, taking up space in front of the mirror, practically pushing me to the side, “on top of that, I still have to go to work and deal with obnoxious men who think they know better than I

Niko's POVShe stared at me like she was a deer caught in headlights. The poor thing had no idea what she had just gotten herself into.“You can’t be serious.” She sprinted out of her seat. I could hear her breathing. Hard. “First, you point a gun at my father’s head because, according to you, he k

Sophia's POVNikolai’s eyes never left mine. Maybe he thought I was stupid, brave, or maybe both. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking.“Why the hell would I do that?” His gun remained pointed at me.I was officially being stupid.I stammered, that’s what happens when you have a gun in your face.“

Sophia's POV“Sophia, sit.” My father muttered. I could smell the alcohol on his breath. A bad habit that became worse after mum died. “Dad…what’s wrong?” He didn’t say a word. He just carried on circling the living room like there was a fire somewhere. His bloodshot eyes darted out the windows e

Niko's POVI leaned back, taking all my plans in. Tonight was the night. Except my best friend and right-hand man, Jack, thought it was a dumb idea.“The Rossi girl?” He was standing right across from me. We never did see eye to eye on anything. It was a wonder how we managed to stay best friends a
