Chapter 8 ~ Beheaded

                                 CHAPTER 8

                        •••••In the palace•••••

                     •••••Third Person POV•••••

For the first time in many years, Astraea felt helpless.

She knew what her brother was going to do was can cause chaos in the whole werewolf realm if this news got out of the capital which was meant to.

It was the worst possible punishment a king could give to any wolf and on that girl was a just a mere human.

She knew this can also cause the strain in the relationship of human and werewolf both world and can also lead to the war and peace truce they worked so hard on will be useless.

King of the human world was already upset when he found about illegal human trafficking but they won't want to lose another one of their kind to be punish as the main culprit just because she's mate of main culprit.

She tried her best to convince her brother to reconsider his decision but he never bulged.

This was the last chance she had to stop him from making this grave mistake as she gathered all of her courage before walking up to his office.

Observing Princess Astraea walking towards the king's office, the guards opened the gates before bowing their head in respect of their beloved princess.

As expected she found her brother sitting behind a huge mahogany office desk and was focused on reading some documents.

She strolled towards him and took a seat across from him.

Leonidas who already knew what his sister wanted to talk about kept ignoring her.

He didn't get why she was so persistent about saving that human girl.

He knew no one in all 5 realms has enough guts to start to even think about the war against him as he was much more powerful than any of them together.

If he wanted then he would've already caught that mutt Stephen but he didn't want to waste any more of his resources when he can easily lure that bastard to himself with the help of his mate.

Suddenly a guard knocked on the door.

" Come In" Leonidas ordered.

" Your highness, all is ready for tomorrow's beheading" the guard bowed and informed.

" Good" The king replied and dismissed him and turned back to his work.

" You're going to execute her don't you?" After a long silence, Astraea questioned and Leonidas only nodded his head without sparing his sister any glance.

" Leo is that really necessary?" she asked slowly for the one last time hoping he'll change his mind.

Leonidas huffed and looked in her eyes before opening his mouth " If you're worried about war then I assure you it won't come to that and if it did then you know better than anyone that I won't let any harm come to my people no matter what" he answered with his voice turning cold by the end of the sentence with a glint in his eyes that only Astraea could understand and the hair on her neck stood in attention.

Without arguing any more she stood and left but before walking out she slightly turned her head and spoke " I hope that you won't regret your decision brother" before she turned and walked away.

Leonidas who heard his sister felt the beast inside him feeling uneasy and started to crawl making Leonidas feeling uneasy for some unknown reason.

After some time he again turned back and continue his work hoping soon his uneasiness will fade away.

                        •••••In the dungeon•••••

Down in the basement laid unconscious Aurora who was waiting for the last breath.

She couldn't move and even breathing seemed hard.

Across her cell sat an old man who was watching the little girl with his old worried eyes.

For the last few days, he tried hard to try to speak to that little girl who showed him hope after decades in this darkness.

He could see her dying in front of his eyes but couldn't do anything.

He even tried to alert the guard about her dying state but they looked him wide eyes in shock as it was the first time they ever heard him speak since he first came here but still they brushed him off saying it's better if she died and if she didn't then she will when she'll be beheaded tomorrow.

Either way her fate is sealed with death so no one cared.

Michael could see angles of death and could feel their evilness in the air slowly sucking the life out of that little child but he couldn't do anything except waiting.

Maybe he was wrong.

His eyes watered as he remembered the time when he first saw her.

He saw her soul shining brightly in the cold dark dungeons.

It was impossible for naked eyes to see her inner light but he could see it in her easily.

Even though she looked like she's been through a lot he could feel the courage, compassion and rare purity of golden light that travelled in her heart.

But then he felt her sorrow and saw the darkness she slowly started to walked towards in hope to get peace.

He wanted to save this child but he couldn't. He was too weak to even try.

He heard a squeak of mice and noticed a brown mouse next to where Aurora laid on the floor.

It's been here for the last few hours anxiously sniffing her.

Maybe even that little mice knew that he won't be seeing her anymore and soon it'll be time of goodbye.

                        •••••Next Morning•••••

                          {Day of Beheading}

The next morning came sooner than anybody would have wanted.

The day of Aurora's execution.

Soldiers barged into dungeons. Their angry heavy footsteps and clinking of their armour were heard from far away causing every prisoner to scoot in their cells.

Soon the soldier started to drag Aurora mercilessly from her cell towards the location of her execution.

Worriedly Michael stood up and saw the little Aurora being dragged out of her cell like a doll by the soldiers followed by angel's of death as they smirked.

Maybe it's a farewell he thought to himself and kept looking towards the fading back of the soldiers until they disappeared completely.

Soon the soldiers reached the huge podium that was set for the execution and people were gathered around it to see the execution of the human.

Some people were looking at Aurora with a look of disgust, some were giving her a look of pity and some looked at her curiously.

She looked dead if it wasn't for her beating heart and moving of chest whenever she breathed then everyone would have mistaken her for a dead body.

Suddenly the murmuring stopped as everyone turned their head towards the huge gate as they saw six very tall knights, wearing black armour with red lines capes.

Despite the dark metal, their armour shone in the sunlight...

Broke my heart reading Michael’s side of Aurora. I’m in tears - that was sad. Real feelings and emotions. Great book.
