The next morning, the orphanage gates were lined with sleek black cars. The sound of engines idling filled the air as the girls finished packing their few belongings.

Lilian stepped out first, her face unreadable. Isabella followed, but just before she could cross the threshold, the new matron’s hand gently caught her arm.

“Remember this, Isabella,” the matron whispered firmly. “Your father is Adrian Sinclair. And now, the one in charge of your household is Matteo Sinclair, his younger brother. Do not allow them to trample on you.”

Isabella smiled faintly and nodded. “I won’t allow it, ma’am.”

The matron released her hand, and Isabella walked outside. The guards at the gate bowed respectfully as Isabella and Lilian entered the waiting limousine. More cars lined up behind them, forming a convoy as they drove away from the orphanage.

Hours later, the convoy slowed before a sprawling mansion, towering with stone walls and elegant arches. The moment the girls stepped out of the car, they exchanged nervous glances. Together, they were guided through the tall doors and into a grand hall.

The place buzzed with people. Servants rushed about, guests mingled in expensive clothes, and the weight of many stares pressed on Isabella.

Then, through the crowd, a woman suddenly rushed forward. She had soft eyes but carried herself with authority. Without hesitation, she embraced Lilian tightly.

“Lilian…” her voice cracked, “my daughter.”

But Lilian stood stiffly in her arms, not returning the affection. Sensing the tension, the woman quickly turned and drew Isabella into the same embrace. Isabella, however, gave the same cold reaction.

Matteo Sinclair cleared his throat loudly, forcing the hall into silence. “Welcome, Lilian and Isabella Sinclair.”

At once, murmurs rippled through the guests.

“She looks exactly like her sister, Isadora…” one voice whispered.

Before the whispers could fade, a girl in a maid’s uniform stepped into the hall, balancing a tray of drinks. Isabella’s heart stopped.

She froze where she stood, eyes locked on the girl—her exact reflection.

The maid, Isadora, faltered mid-step, stunned by the sight before her. She forgot the tray in her hands, setting it carelessly on a nearby table as she slowly approached Isabella.

“Pretty dirty right now,” Isadora said with a lazy smile. “I wanted to hug you, sissy—”

But before she could finish, Isabella threw her arms around her, holding her so tightly it drew a startled gasp from the crowd.

At that moment, Alessandro stepped back into the hall, returning from the restroom. His eyes narrowed as he spotted Isabella.

Isabella pulled back from her sister, her gaze falling on Isadora’s bruised skin. Her voice trembled with rage. “Why are you like this? Even Lilian looks stunned. How can a girl from the Sinclairs look so unkempt?”

Isadora forced a small laugh. “I was just doing the dishes and working before you came, sissy.”

Isabella shook her head sharply. “That’s not what I asked, Isadora. Why are you bruised?”

Lilian stepped closer. “Yes—tell us the truth.”

Before Isadora could answer, Lilian’s mother quickly interjected, flustered. “Oh—she… she fell down the stairs.”

Both girls turned and shot her a deadly glare. Isabella’s voice dropped low and cold. “These don’t look like stair injuries.”

Before the tension could escalate further, Alessandro cleared his throat. The sound cut through the murmurs.

Isabella turned sharply toward him, her eyes blazing.

Recognition struck like lightning. She stepped back, pointing a finger directly at him. “Wait—weren’t you the bastard who tried to kill me the other day?!”

Gasps echoed through the hall.

“Why are you here—in my house?!” she demanded.

Alessandro smirked, completely unfazed. “Woah. Claiming it as yours already? How bold.”

Isabella chuckled bitterly. “Isn’t my father’s property mine?”

Beside her, Isadora tugged on her sleeve, whispering urgently for her to stay quiet, but Isabella shrugged her off.

“And you, bastard—you almost shot me!”

Alessandro tilted his head, his voice calm. “Ms. Sinclair, I am your family’s honored guest today. Would you stop accusing me so recklessly?”

Her eyes burned with fury.

“You’ve just arrived,” Alessandro continued smoothly. “Go have some rest. Perhaps when you wake, you’ll come back to your senses.”

Before Isabella could fire back, a girl—Lilian’s younger sister, two years her junior—stormed into the hall. “Isadora! Why didn’t you finish what I asked you to do?” she snapped loudly, drawing more eyes.

Isadora started to turn, ready to obey, but Isabella caught her by the wrist.

“What did she ask you to do?” Isabella pressed.

Lilian’s voice joined in, firm. “Answer her.”

Isadora’s head lowered in shame. “She… she asked me to do her laundry. I almost forgot.”

Isabella’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What the hell are you saying? There are maids in this house, right?”

Isadora nodded quietly.

“Then why are you the one doing her laundry?” Isabella’s voice rose, echoing through the hall, demanding an answer no one seemed willing to give.

Grandma, still seated in the car outside the school, had seen everything. A proud smile spread across her lips as Isabella stood her ground. She leaned back and told the driver, “Head home.”Inside the classroom, Isabella pushed the door open. The air shifted immediately—cold eyes, sharp whispers, and judgmental stares all met her. She ignored them, walking with steady steps until the teacher gestured for her to stand at the front.“Introduce yourself to the class,” the teacher instructed.Isabella lifted her chin. “My name is Isabella Sinclair.”Several students glanced at one another. The Sinclair name was heavy, and they knew it.“I am the rightful heir to the Sinclair empire and everything that belongs to my late father,” she continued, her voice clear and confident. Gasps echoed through the room. She let the silence linger before finishing with a smirk. “Whether you like me or not, it doesn’t matter to me.”From the doorway, Sophia had been watching the whole thing. The next morning, Lilian and Isadora were ready to leave. Their bags were packed, and the bodyguards stood at attention by the door. Vivienne and Matteo watched from the side, their faces hard with disapproval. Still, neither dared to object—Matteo valued his mother’s word too much to cross her openly.Lilian and Isadora hugged Isabella tightly at the doorway. “Take care of yourself,” Lilian whispered.“I will,” Isabella replied, forcing a smile. “You two stay safe.”They kissed her goodbye before following Grandma and her guards to the waiting cars.As soon as the vehicles pulled away, Sophia stepped closer, a smug smile tugging her lips. “A country bumpkin thinks she can control this house,” she sneered, giggling as her eyes roved over Isabella. “Let’s see how long you’ll last here.”Isabella said nothing. Without a word, she turned on her heel and went to her room. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she pulled out her phone, searching for the best high schools around. After scrolling

Sophia immediately stood up and rushed to call Lilian. At that moment, Grandma walked into the sitting room with Isabella at her side. Her sharp eyes scanned the room.“What is going on here?” she asked firmly.Matteo quickly rose to his feet, trying to sound composed.“He’s Lilian’s fiancé,” he said, motioning toward Riccardo. “He’s here for her hand in marriage.”Grandma’s expression turned cold as she stared at him.“Lilian’s fiancé? Is that so?”She moved forward and sat down on the couch, while Isabella stood silently behind her, like a shield.Matteo nodded, but his confidence wavered.Grandma turned her attention to Riccardo.“How well do you know Lilian?”Riccardo froze. He had no answer—of course, this was his first time meeting her.A few minutes later, Lilian entered with Sophia by her side. Without hesitation, she went straight to sit next to Grandma, clutching her hand tightly.Grandma looked at her softly.“Do you know this gentleman, Lilian?”Matteo gave Lilian a warnin

After their grandmother was taken to her room to rest, the rest of the family also retired to their rooms. But Isabella had other plans. Quietly, she slipped out and made her way down to the kitchen. She grabbed an onion, peeled it quickly, and squeezed the juice into her eyes. Tears welled up instantly, streaming down her cheeks. She blinked a few times, adjusting her expression until she looked utterly heartbroken.Taking a deep breath, she hurried down the hallway and knocked on her grandmother’s door. The old woman opened it with a warm smile—only for that smile to vanish the moment she saw Isabella’s tear-streaked face. Concern replaced joy, and she quickly ushered the girl inside.“Child, what’s wrong?” Grandma said, guiding Isabella to sit on the bed. She cupped her hands around Isabella’s trembling shoulders, her voice soft but urgent.Isabella buried her face in her palms and sobbed. “Grandma… I’ve lived such a miserable life in the orphanage with Lilian. Matteo’s voice cut through the silence like a blade.“Do you really think I won’t hurt you just because you’re my daughter?” he asked, his eyes fixed coldly on Lilian.Lilian let out a dry chuckle. “Really?”Without answering, Matteo reached out and pulled Sophia closer to him. He rested a hand on her shoulder with mock affection.“You see, she’s a wonderful daughter. Just like Seraphina. They understand what family business means.” His tone hardened. “Your emotions aren’t needed in family business, Lilian. If you want something to work, you must keep your feelings out of it.”He paused, straightening his suit jacket.“As for school, I’ll approve it. You’ll all go. But Lilian—” his gaze sharpened, “I’ve already made a very good match for you.”Lilian narrowed her eyes. “Is that supposed to be a joke?”Vivienne quickly rushed to her side, grasping her hand as though to soften the blow.“Come now, girl. Riccardo is a very good kid.”Lilian pulled her hand back slightly. “Who’s Riccardo?

The next morning, Lilian woke earlier than usual. She stretched, then stepped out into the quiet hall, only to pause when she heard soft sobs coming from the sitting room. Curious, she moved closer, careful not to make a sound. There, she saw Seraphina curled up on the couch, her face buried in her hands. Vivienne sat beside her, stroking her hair.“Why, Mom?” Seraphina sobbed. “Why did you let Isadora take my room? That’s my room!”Vivienne’s tone was calm, coaxing. “Hush, sweetheart. Don’t cry. Things will be better soon. Once we get your sister on our side, everything will change for the better. Besides… Sophia is coming back.”At that, Seraphina’s tears instantly slowed. Her head shot up, eyes wide. “Really? Big sis is coming?”Vivienne smiled faintly. “Yes, she’ll be here soon.”Lilian clenched her fists, her jaw tight. She had heard enough and turned to leave—only to bump into Isabella, who was standing right behind her, also listening. They exchanged looks. Isabella raised an e
