**Chapter 4 – Entering His World

I stood on the cracked sidewalk outside my apartment building with one duffel bag, a half-dead houseplant I'd refused to abandon, and the distinct feeling I was about to make the worst decision of my life.

Three identical expensive looking SUVs were sitting idled at my front porch, engines purring, windows tinted so dark they looked like polished voids. The lead driver stepped out—tall, broad, wearing a black suit that did nothing to hide the fact that he could probably bench-press a city bus.

"Miss Avery," he said, voice polite and completely unreadable. "Mr. Voss is expecting you,we can't afford to delay."

I eyed the convoy. " is this just how rich guys compensate for… personality issues?"

The driver's mouth twitched. Almost a smile. "Please."

I climbed into the middle SUV because choosing the front one felt too eager and the last one felt like I was being left behind on purpose.

The interior of the car smelled like expensive leather and something darker—cedar, cold air, and a faint trace of the man who'd ordered this entire circus. My stomach did a slow, traitorous flip just by thinking about him.

One of the guards handed me a black blindfold.

"What's this for?" I stared in confusion.

"Safety precautions"

"I'm not wearing this,of course I would like to know where exactly you guys are taking me"

"The boss's order can't disobeyed" the guard said with no shred of emotion .

I knew arguing with them was pointless so I just agreed to being blindfolded.

After what seemed like an endless stretch of hours, the guard took off my blindfold and announced we had arrived.

I stared in confusion, this didn't seem like someone's home,it seemed like somewhere the president himself lived .

By the time the gates of the estate swung open, my jaw had gone wide open.

The mansion wasn't a house. It was a statement. It screamed royalty.

A wide marble staircase led to the enormous entrance, its polished surface gleaming as though it had been freshly washed by the rain. Tall pillars supported the sweeping roof, giving the house an imposing elegance without making it feel cold.

Beyond the entrance, everything seemed designed to make ordinary people feel painfully ashamed and underdressed.

Crystal chandeliers hung from impossibly high ceilings, their light scattering across the marble floors. Rich carpets softened the corridors, while enormous paintings decorated the walls between gilded mirrors.

It wasn't simply a mansion.

It was the kind of place that made you wonder how many crimes someone had committed to afford it.

"Holy shit," I whispered. " I never knew a place like this actually existed."

The driver didn't comment.

They didn't stop at the main entrance. The convoy continued past the sprawling main house, deeper into the property, until the trees opened onto a sleek glass-and-steel structure that seemed to grow out of the rock itself. A private wing. Or a penthouse that had decided gravity was optional.

Floor-to-ceiling windows faced the valley. The air smelled cleaner here, sharper, like the forest itself had been filtered through money and danger.

Kael was waiting at the top of the stairs.

He wore black again—black shirt open at the throat, black trousers, bare feet. Moonlight cut across the sharp planes of his face and turned his eyes molten gold for a second before they settled back into that unnatural pale amber. My pulse kicked hard against my ribs.

"Welcome home," he said.

I stepped out of the SUV, bag slung over one shoulder, plant cradled like a hostage. "Home is a strong word. This sounds more like kidnapping to me"

His mouth curved. Not quite a smile. Something hungrier. "Come inside"

The interior was worse. Or better. Depending on how much I wanted to admit I was impressed. Open-concept living space the size of a small airport terminal. White marble floors.

A kitchen that looked like it had never seen a dirty dish. A wall of glass that made the forest feel like it was sitting at the dinner table.

And everywhere—everywhere—the faint, intoxicating scent of him. Cedar. Smoke. Something wild underneath that made the back of my neck prickle.

I set my plant on the nearest surface like it might protect me. "Okay. Are you going to tell me why I'm really here?"

Kael closed the distance between us with that same unnerving quiet. He stopped close enough that I had to tip my head back. Heat rolled off him in waves.

"You're here because you're mine."

I snorted. "Bold claim from a man who hasn't even bought me dinner. Also, I don't do the whole 'property of' thing"

His eyes flashed. Literally flashed—gold bleeding into the amber like liquid metal. My breath caught. Did I just imagine that?

"You felt it the first night," he said, voice dropping into something rough and low. "In the club. When I touched you. When you looked at me like the rest of the world disappeared."

My cheeks heated. "That was just because of the lighting. And the fact that you looked like sin in a suit .Don't flatter yourself."

"It was the bond."

I blinked. "The what now?"

Kael exhaled through his nose, a sound almost like a growl. "I need you to see something. And I need you not to run."

"That's the most reassuring sentence anyone has ever said to me."

He stepped back, fingers already at the buttons of his shirt. My eyes widened.

"Whoa. Hold up. If this is some weird rich-guy striptease, I am clearly not interested—"

The shirt hit the floor. Then the trousers. Then everything else.

My brain short-circuited for a full three seconds. Because of course he looked like that under the clothes. All hard muscle and scarred skin and the kind of body that made angels reconsider their career choices. I forced my gaze up to his face and tried not to look down.

"You are a pervert. An actual, certified pervert. you're just—naked. In a living room. Like it's normal. Put your pants back on before I call the police and also a priest for some exorcism"

Kael's voice was calm. Too calm. "Watch."

The air around him seemed to thicken. His shoulders rolled. Bones cracked—loud, wet, wrong. I stumbled backward, heart slamming against my ribs hard enough to bruise. Fur erupted across his skin in a wave of silver-black.

Limbs lengthened and reformed with sickening pops. His face elongated into a muzzle full of teeth that belonged in nightmares. In seconds the man was gone.

In his place stood a massive wolf.

Not a normal wolf. A creature the size of a small horse, silver-black fur rippling over corded muscle, eyes burning pure gold. It towered over me. Steam curled from its nostrils. When it stepped forward, the marble floor seemed to tremble.

My back hit the glass wall. A high, thin sound escaped my throat.

The wolf stopped. Lowered its head. And then—impossibly—the shift reversed. Fur melted. Bones reshaped with another series of sickening cracks. Kael Voss stood naked in front of me again, chest heaving, eyes still gold and feral.

"I'm not human," he said simply. "I'm a werewolf. Alpha of this pack. And you… are my mate."

Silence stretched.

I stared at him. Then at the floor where a few strands of silver fur still clung to the marble. Then back at him.

"You're insane," I whispered. Too scared and overwhelmed to say anything.

Kael took one careful step closer. "The bond is real. It's why you can't stop thinking about me. Why your body reacts when I get close"

"I came here because you basically blackmailed me with an offer and three SUVs. That's not destiny. That's your doing"

My knees wobbled. The room tilted. The last thing I saw was Kael lunging forward, arms outstretched, gold eyes wide with something that looked almost like panic.

Darkness swallowed me whole.

---

I woke to the scent of him.

Cedar and smoke and that wild undercurrent that made my skin feel too tight. Soft sheets. A mattress that probably cost more than my entire apartment building. Dim light from a single lamp. And a very solid, very warm body curved around mine from behind.

My eyes snapped open.

Kael's arm was draped over my waist, heavy and possessive. His face was buried in the curve of my neck. Every few seconds he inhaled deeply, nose brushing the sensitive skin just below my ear, and a low, almost inaudible rumble vibrated through his chest. He wasn't touching me anywhere inappropriate. Just holding. Scenting. Like he couldn't stop.

My heart hammered.

"You're awake," he murmured against my skin. His voice was rough, strained.

I swallowed. "You shifted into a giant murder puppy in front of me and then I blacked out. Forgive me if I'm a little slow on the uptake."

A soft huff of laughter ghosted across my neck. "Murder puppy. Creative."

His arm tightened fractionally. "My wolf wants to mark you. Right now. Bite down on the place where your shoulder meets your neck and claim you so every other male within a hundred miles knows you're mine." His breath shuddered. "I'm not going to. Not tonight. Not until you understand."

My pulse fluttered wildly under his mouth. I hated that my body leaned into the heat of him instead of away. "Mark me. Like… property. Again with the belonging. We need to work on your vocabulary. Maybe add ' consent' and 'agreement' to it"

"You belong to me," he said, and there was no arrogance in it—just quiet, absolute certainty. "The same way I belong to you. The mate bond doesn't care about modern ideas of independence. It simply is. And fighting it will only hurt us both."

He was still naked. I could feel every inch of his bare skin against my clothed back. His cock rested heavy and hot against my waist, and every time he inhaled my scent his hips gave the tiniest, involuntary roll—like he was fighting the urge to grind against my ass.

"Emm can I have my personal space back?" I asked, starting to get uncomfortable with the idea of a naked aroused man lying next to me.

"Personal space doesn't exist with mates," Kael said. His lips dragged lower, open-mouthed now, tasting the skin just above her collar. "Not when you smell like this. Not when I've been hard since the second you walked through the door."

Avery's laugh came out shaky. "Wow. Bold strategy."

"I'm trying not to flip you onto your back and bury my face between your legs until you forget how to make jokes," he said, voice turning into something dark. "I'm trying very hard. My wolf is not helping."

The image hit me like a slap. Heat flooded low in my belly. I clenched my thighs without meaning to and felt him go completely still behind me—like the small movement had nearly snapped his control.

"Careful," he warned, almost gentle. "Do that again and I won't be responsible for what happens next."

She forced a snort. "Threats. Cute. Is this the part where I remind you I still think you're insane?"

"You can think whatever you want." His hand slid higher, stopping just under the curve of her breast. Not touching. Just hovering. Close enough that the heat of his palm made her nipple tighten. "Your body already knows the truth. It's why you arched into me in your sleep. Why you made those soft little sounds when I scented you. Why you're wet right now and trying to pretend you're not."

My face burned with embarrassment

"You don't know that."

"I can smell it." He nosed under her jaw, breathing her in like a man starving.

I squeezed my eyes shut. "Okay, boundaries. We are not discussing the state of my underwear with the man who just turned into a wolf right in front of me "

"So what happens now?" I asked. " And then what? I just… move in? Quit my job?"

"You already quit," he said. "You're done with the club."

My eyebrows shot up. " what?"

"You're not stripping for strangers anymore." His voice dropped into a growl. "No other male gets to look at what's mine."

Something hot and complicated twisted low in my stomach. I covered it with a scoff. "Possessive much? Also, that was my income. Who's going to take care of my sister maya."

Kael's thumb stroked once over my hip, almost absently.

"You won't ever lack. Never again. Your room is the one next to mine. You'll sleep there tonight. Tomorrow we'll talk about everything else—the pack, the territory, what being an alpha's mate means. I will send you someone who will help you understand and adjust"

" I stay next to your room, that's really suspicious"

"I need to know you're safe. And close to me." His gaze dropped to my mouth, then lower, to the frantic pulse in my throat.

Finally I understood that I had no say in this.He was already deciding my fate.

I sat up carefully, putting a few inches of blessed space between us. The sheets pooled around my waist. I was still fully clothed, thank God. He'd even left my sneakers on.

"Okay. New plan," I said, forcing lightness into my voice. "You go take a cold shower or run a marathon or howl at the moon or whatever ,while I go to my assigned room. We both pretend this night didn't happen. Deal?"

Kael watched me for a long moment. Then he sat up too, the bedsheet falling to his hips.

"Deal," he said quietly. "But Avery?"

"Yeah?"

He leaned in, close enough that his next words brushed my lips like a promise and a threat all at once.

"Even if you run… I'll find you. The bond won't let either of us go. And neither will I."

My breath stuttered.

He stood in one fluid motion, completely unselfconscious in his nakedness, and walked to the door that led to the adjoining suite. He opened it, then looked back over his shoulder. Gold flickered once more in his eyes.

"Sleep. Dream of me if you want. Or don't. Either way… I'll be right on the other side of that door. Listening to every heartbeat. Every breath. Making sure nothing—and no one—touches what's mine."

The door clicked shut behind him.

I sat frozen in the center of the massive bed, heart slamming against my ribs, skin still tingling where he'd breathed against my neck. Outside the wall of glass, the forest stretched endless and dark. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled—long, low, and possessive.

I pressed a hand to my throat and whispered the only thing that made sense in a night that had stopped making sense hours ago.

"What the actual fuck did I just get myself into?"

And somewhere on the other side of the connecting door, Kael Voss smiled into the dark—sharp and hungry and already counting the hours until dawn.

Chapter Five:MisunderstandingsI woke up alone again, the connecting door still shut. My body remembered the weight of Kael's arm and the way his breath had branded my neck. I sat up, shoved my hair out of my face, and muttered, "Day two. Try not to faint."A soft knock sounded."Come in."A woman stepped inside carrying a tray that smelled like actual coffee. Late twenties, dark braid, calm eyes that looked like they'd seen every possible reaction to this place and still showed up with breakfast."Good morning. I'm Lisa. Mr. Voss assigned me to you. I'll help you settle in and answer questions about the pack, the territory, and… the mate bond."I stared at the coffee like it held the secrets of the universe. "You brought coffee. Sit down. And drop the 'Miss.' Just call me Avery"She hesitated, then sat. "Mr. Voss was clear I should treat you with the respect due his mate.""Yeah, well, From now on you're Lisa, I'm Avery, and if I start talking nonsense you're allowed to tell me to sh

Chapter Three: Horny For HimAvery's POV The next morning smelled like burnt coffee and bad decisions.I sat cross-legged on the couch with a mug I wasn’t drinking from, staring at nothing, while Nyx paced in front of me like a lawyer preparing for trial. She had been watching me since I walked through the door last night and refused to say anything beyond “I’m fine” and “I need a shower.”She wasn’t buying it anymore.“Talk,” Nyx said, stopping in front of me. “And don’t even try the ‘nothing happened’ line. You came home looking like someone rearranged your soul”“I don’t want to talk about it.”“Too bad. I’m your best friend. That means I get access to the messy parts. Spill.”I pressed my lips together. The memory of Kael’s fingers inside me, the way he had fingered me, the calm way he had told me I was leaving with him—it all sat heavy in my chest. Talking about it would make it real.Nyx dropped onto the couch beside me and poked my arm. “Avery. I will start guessing out loud a

Chapter 2 – VIP Room **Kael’s POV** The scent hit me like a blade between the ribs. One second I was walking through the club with my beta at my shoulder, already irritated by the noise, the smell of cheap alcohol, and the pointless meeting I had agreed to take here. The next second, everything in me stopped. Mine. My wolf exploded against the inside of my skin so violently I tasted blood where my fangs had cut into my own mouth. Every muscle locked. The bass from the speakers became distant, useless noise. All I could see was the girl on the stage. She wasn’t naked. That almost made it worse. The black crop top clung to full, heavy breasts that moved with every shift of her body. The high-waisted shorts framed the thick flare of her hips and the soft, perfect curve of her ass. Long legs. Smooth skin that glowed under the red neon like it had been made for my mouth. A waist I could already feel spanning under my hands. And she was on a fucking stage. Men were staring at her.

Chapter One– The Scent "All of this could’ve been avoided if your parents had just used a damn condom" I said to the guy currently blocking my doorway. He was selling the same tired rizz lines I’d heard since I turned sixteen. “Avery, come on,” Tyler wheedled, leaning one sweaty palm against the frame. “You’ve been single for months. I’m just saying I’d treat you right.” “And I’m just saying your existence is the reason some women drink,” I replied, adjusting the strap of my bag. “Move.” He didn’t. Of course he didn’t. They never did until you do something drastic to chase them away. “You’ve got a very sassy mouth on you,” he said, eyes dropping—predictably—to my chest. “But I like that. Girls with bodies like yours usually—” “Usually what? Have to carry pepper spray and a restraining order just to go out and buy cereal?” I stepped forward, forcing him to either move or get run over. He chose moving. Smartest decision he’d made all day. “Go home, Tyler. Or wherever it i
