"It's this way." Sara's voice rang out, cutting through the air. "You're going the wrong way."

Elena stopped. Her lips pressed into a thin line, her hand curling slowly into a fist at her side before she turned. "Really." Her voice was flat, disinterested. "I thought the flowers meant I was on the right path."

"No." Sara caught up with her, slightly breathless. "That path leads to the estate gates. The flowers are just decoration." She explained, her

"Are you sure you don't want to change into something else?" Sara asked, tapping the key card against the door. It beeped and clicked open. "I picked a dress that would suit you perfectly. Do you want to try it?""No. I'll pass. I'm comfortable in what I'm wearing." Elena said, her eyes sweeping across the room as she stepped in behind Sara. She paused.A luxurious room with ceiling to floor transparent walls displaying the breathtaking night view of the city stretched before her. Polished marble floors that glowed as though made of glass. An extra large king sized bed covered with spotless quality sheets.Elena's mouth fell open. How much was Lucien Black worth exactly? Spending what seemed like a small fortune just so his sister could change before dinner. The thought alone was staggering."Do you like the room?" Sara asked, opening the huge w

"Here's the coffee you requested, Mr. Black." A female attendant said, flashing a polite smile as she set it on the table beside him.Lucien nodded. "Meet my man at the entrance for a tip." He said, flipping a page of the fashion magazine in his hand."Thank you, sir." She beamed, her smile widening. "Call for me if you need anything else." She bowed and left.James's voice rose from the transmitter bud in his ear. "The man's still watching, Boss. Should I move in?"Lucien's grip on the magazine tightened. "Don't. Just monitor his movements." He said, flipping another page."Yes, Boss."Lucien closed the magazine and dropped it on the side table. He reached for the steaming cup of black coffee, taking a slow sip. His gaze shifted to Sara at the makeup counter, trying out an eyeshadow palette with concentration. His eyes moved until they f

"Hurry up. Lu has been waiting in the car for almost thirty minutes. He might change his mind if we waste any more time." Sara said, slipping her arm through Elena's. "You look stunning by the way." She complimented. "I'm glad you agreed to come. I promise we'll have a good time.""A good time." Elena whispered, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. That was the least of her reasons for agreeing to this outing. The opportunity she had been waiting for had finally arrived when she least expected it, and she intended to seize it.After leaving Lucien's room that morning she had returned to her own, spending the rest of the day wallowing in regret and reprimanding herself for being too empathetic and soft hearted toward a man who should be her enemy. Then Sara had appeared at her door. "Lu's taking me shopping this weekend. Do you want to come?" She asked, poking her head inside."No." Elena had answered

"We caught the man who fired the shot. He's currently being held in one of our warehouses." James said, handing him a glass of water. "Here you go, Boss."Lucien gave a small nod, draining the glass in one gulp. He exhaled slowly as he handed it back."Another glass?" James asked, reaching for the jug on the table."I'm fine. Carry on." He replied, leaning back. "Who is he working for?""We're still trying to get that information. He refused to talk despite the torture all night.""What do you mean by that?" Lucien's voice dropped low. "A whole battalion of men couldn't pry a single word from one disarmed man?"James' gaze dropped to the floor. "I'm sorry, Boss.""I don't pay you to be sorry, James." Lucien said, shaking his head. "I need answers and I need them fast.""Yes, Boss." James paused. "There's something else you should know.""What?""It's been confirmed there's a mole among the men, someone selling details of your whereabouts and movements." James announced.Lucien's expre

Lucien's finger moved then stilled. It moved again, this time a soft beeping breaking through the silence. For a while there was nothing but that sound, the darkness and the insistent pull urging him to open his eyes. His head throbbed like there was a marathon going on inside it. His lids too heavy to lift.He tried anyway.Light bled in, blurry and unfamiliar, before his eyes slipped shut again, dragging him toward unconsciousness. He resisted it, forcing them open once more, blinking repeatedly to keep himself awake. Then came the dryness, raw and burning, his throat aching for relief."Water." He rasped, barely hearing his own voice. His gaze moved slowly around the space as the environment registered. His room.Where was everyone? And why did his body feel as though every bone had been broken? He turned his head to the side, squinting against the harsh sunlight spilling through the windows. His brows drew together.Someone had actually dared to open his curtains.Irritation flick

"Excuse me, ma'am. This area is off limits." A woman's voice stopped Elena in her tracks. She drew in a slow breath, her eyes closing briefly as footsteps approached.“Ma'am." A light touch brushed her shoulder. "Did you hear what I said earlier? No one is permitted on this floor."Elena turned slowly. A woman in formal clothes stood before her, files tucked under her arm, studying her with open curiosity."Who are you? I haven't seen your face before." The woman fired instantly. "You must be among the new batch of maids recently hired. Weren't you informed of the rules?""I'm not a maid." Elena said, slightly taken aback."Then who are you? There's no way you would have been allowed on this floor at this hour.""I stay in the room across the hall. I couldn't sleep so I came out for a short walk." Elena explained with a half smile. "Don't mind me. Go on with your work. I'll return to my room." She said, turning and hurrying away. This was a bad idea. She had known it from the moment s
