Chapter 5

Zach

“You were very specific about what you wanted from my bed.” I took a few steps towards her, stopping midway as I took a moment to glance at her.

She was far from the models I was constantly surrounded by.

“It was a mistake, I wasn’t thinking straight.” She muttered, looking frustrated and I nodded.

“Good because if wishes were horses, beggars would ride, your greedy ass should be satisfied with the controversy you’ve already caused me.” With those words, I turned around walking out while she grumbled cursed behind me.

My thoughts wandered to the human as I eased out of the company onto the express.

I gritted my teeth as I entered my maybach, only the goddess knew who she was and why I had helped her at the rink.

Now wasn’t the time to have a crazy fan tailing me around. She was just like the rest, only with a stronger strategy but it’s no match for me.

Pushing thoughts about her out of my head, the drive continued in silence.

“Good day, Alpha.” My butler whispered, standing outside with his head bowed.

I said nothing as I tossed the key at him before walking into the house.

“Argh…” I groaned, caressing my arms, I’d have to get it checked out one of these days.

The season was a week away, there was no way I could let anything stop me from playing.

“Took you so long to get back today… Practicing that hard for this season?” Damien asked as he walked down the stairs.

I rolled my eyes, sometimes I forget that my beta has access to my house even more than I do.

“Why are you here?” I asked as I grabbed a glass from the tray of wine the maid had brought.

“You know why… The council sent me, when do you plan to die? April? May?” He asked and I frowned, rolling my eyes.

He scoffed. “Oh please, I’m only doing my job at the beta…” He had an iPad with him with a pen, he was probably taking notes.

“I’ve checked your schedule. The season is ending in April, would you like to take new pictures for your funeral? You have countless amazing ones, is there really a need for a new one? If you wish, I can have a new suit tailored for it and I’ve been thinking, should the death be a car accident? Fire outbreak or drowning?” He continued and a low growl escaped my lips.

“Enough already. Let’s discuss other things.” I replied as I crossed one leg over the other and he sat opposite me, both of us like ants in the huge living room.

“Don’t tell me you’re planning on breaking your promise. It’ll make the elders crazy, you promised them five years ago that you’d achieve so much and return back to take over the werewolf affairs, do you think they’ll give you an extra month? Zach…”

“I know.” I gritted out, looking him dead in the eyes. “And I intend to keep my promise, I’m an alpha of my words.” 

He let out a sigh. “Well, since that’s out of the way… We can discuss something else, which would you like to go for? Your werewolf girlfriend or the human one?” I frowned and he burst out laughing, running a hand through his brown full hair.

“Common, it’s all over the news that you’re in love with a little human… Although she doesn’t quite look like the type of woman you’d go for, what do I know, you never cease to surprise me.” 

“You know damn well the story is twisted, my team has taken care of it.” I gritted out, my wolf stirred for no reason, making me wonder if he wanted a run.

He shook his head slowly, staring intently at the picture of the human and I. He watched the video. 

“I don’t know… You both look really intimate, I can see so much affection in your eyes… More than I’ve ever seen…”

“Damien.” I snarled, baring my fangs at him.

“She’s nothing like the ladies I can be with, you know that I have five rules when it comes to dating humans. Slim body, lethal face, understands we’re temporary, paparazzi obsessed and emotionally unavailable.” I listed out and he chuckled.

“So basically, you want a woman who treats you like a bank account and doesn’t care if you disappear?” He asked.

“If you put it that way, ladies like this… They love too much, every relationship of theirs is like a practice marriage…”

“Scared you might fall in love with a human?” He asked and I scoffed, shaking my head softly.

“I’m incapable of feeling love…”

“That’s not what I’m seeing in this picture… Your eyes…” He teased and I glared at him. 

“Even if I’ll be dating anyone soon, it wouldn’t be her, it seems like she just suffered a heartbreak and I’m no heart doctor.” His eyes widened along with his annoying smile.

“See! You noticed something about her! I’ve seen you date models for months yet you barely know their skin color but for a completely different woman who isn’t your type, you seem to know too much…” He was grinning like a fool and goddess I hated his annoying analysis as much as I loved him.

“Her beloved is my subject, overheard her saying she wanted to be on my bed, which is impossible. I don’t want to hear any more words about the human, return to the elders and tell them that I intend to abide by every word that leaves my lips, I’ll be dying in a car crash, after my fourth Hart Memorial Trophy, on the 21st of April.”

Three Hart Trophies already sat in my trophy room. One more before retiring forever.
