54. The Enemy

I got up from Alec's bed, smoothing the sheets and pulling everything tight in the meticulous way he always did. The last thing I wanted was for him to know I'd been rolling around on his bed while he was gone.

Jules and I headed down to the dining hall. A few guys were milling around, but the hall was mostly dead. Jules piled his plate high while I grabbed a bowl of cereal and some fruit. We sat across from each other.

Jules eyed my plate. "Dude, you're never hungry," he said.

I laughed. "Well, you eat enough for both of us."

He shrugged, digging into his food. "Yeah, well, I feel like I'm growing a damn inch a day. This shit is crazy."

He was talking about puberty, which was still a work in progress it seemed.
