“Oh, Elena, I didn't realize you stayed in school this long as well…” “I do,” she answered with creased brows that made my stomach twist. “How can I help you?” Jalen asked, with a calm voice. She stood frozen in the doorway, her hand still hovering in the air like she’d forgotten how to knock. Her eyes darted between us: Jalen and me before roaming between his tie still hanging crooked, the faint red mark on the side of his neck where I’d bitten too hard, my dress wrinkled and clinging in all the wrong places now that the adrenaline was crashing. My lips still felt swollen. My thighs ached in a way I could not imagine. She didn’t blink for several long seconds; it felt like she was trying to process what was before her. Then she cleared her throat, the sound small and professional, like she was forcing herself back into the role of colleague. “I… didn’t realize you were still here,” she said carefully. “Both of you.” she paused “I wanted to see if I could get an academic file from you” Her gaze flicked to me—brief, assessing, not quite accusing. There was something in it that made my stomach twist with disgust and curiosity, maybe. I couldn’t tell. Jalen stepped half a pace forward, blocking me slightly from her line of sight. “Fiona was just dropping off an assignment, I told her to bring it this late so there's nothing to worry about” he said smoothly. “We were discussing her independent study proposal.” The lie slid out so easily it almost sounded true and I nearly choked on my chuckle. Elena’s mouth curved—just the smallest, saddest tilt. “Of course.” “I should go,” I murmured. Jalen glanced back at me quickly like he hadn’t given me the approval to leave but I ignored him. I slipped past Elena without meeting her eyes, my coat clutched to my chest as I walked down the hallway, and it swallowed me whole. I didn’t breathe properly until I reached the stairwell. Then I ran straight to my room and shut the door. Jalen’s POV “You could have called before coming, you know?” Elena didn’t move from the threshold. She just watched me, arms loosely crossed, and expression unreadable. “Jalen,” she said quietly. “We need to talk.” I exhaled through my nose. “Elena—” “Inside,” she added. “Please.” There was no anger in her tone. Just… something heavy. I stepped back, gesturing her in. She walked past me—slowly—her heels clicking softly against the tile. I closed the door behind her. Locked it again. Habit now. I leaned to the door, watching her wander to the window instead, looking out at the dark campus. Streetlights painted long shadows behind the grass. “I’m not stupid,” she said after a long silence. “I never thought you were.” She turned then. Faced me fully. “I’ve known you for years. Watch you teach and admire your teaching strength from afar. You’ve always been careful until recently.” I strode to my desk and leaned back against the edge—the same desk where Fiona had just come apart under me—and crossed my arms. Waiting. “Especially with Fiona, you’ve been too close to her, I just wanna know if everything is okay with her or there is a need to call her parents,” The question caught me off, guard. “Yes, she’s fine, she just needs a little attention in her studies aside from that, she's good.” My jaw tightened. She took a step closer. “Right, uhm… one more thing” she paused. “Yes,” “You know, a part of me has always wondered what it would feel like if you looked at me the way you look at her.” The confession landed like a stone in still water. Quiet. “Who…” “Marian, she’s lucky to have you, you’re handsome, calm, and reserved. I had loved to be the one to care for such a personality for a while, before you announced your marriage to me, and it hurt me that you never looked at me. It breaks my heart,” she confessed with flirty eyes piercing through mine. “Elena…” She closed the distance between us. Not touching. But close enough that I could smell her rose cologne, nothing like Fiona’s warm vanilla-and-sex scent that still clung to my nose. “I’ve waited,” she said. “Years for you to notice me, I never wanted to do this but I couldn't hold it anymore,” Her fingers brushed the sleeve of my shirt lightly.. “I’m not asking you to leave her, but we could work something out” she whispered, her finger playfully twisting the edge of my tie. Her hand slid up to my collar. Tugged gently and I caught her wrist gently. “Elena,” I said again. Softer this time. “I can’t, I'm married.” Her eyes searched mine. “Because of Fiona?” she asked, her face twisted in a frown as she pulled inches away from me. “I beg your pardon, Fi is a child.” “Fi? Is she no longer fiona to you? Now that’s fishy” she uttered before exhaling shakily. “I don’t want to sound too desperate, Jalen, but I'm willing to do whatever you want and I promise not to be too obvious to Marian, think about it, please.” “But…” my phone buzzed on the desk behind me before I could respond and I pulled it from my pocket answering it without thinking. “Yes?” “Jalen,” Marian’s voice came through, “Where are you?” “Still at the office,” I answered. “Ain’t you coming home?” she asked. “I’m on my way.” I answered and ended the call. Elena’s eyes remained glued to mine the whole time, not tearing them away. “That was her,” she said. I nodded. “I have to leave, you should go get some rest as well” She stepped back. Smiled and left. I grabbed my keys, and phone before striding out of the office. The drive home was quiet. Too quiet. My mind replayed every second of the day: Fiona under the desk, her mouth around me, her body shaking on my desk, the rose toy buzzing against her clit while I fucked her senseless. By the time I pulled into the driveway, the house was dark except for the upstairs windows. Bedroom light on. I let myself in quietly hoping to slip in without her finding out. But the moment I shut the door, I heard a low moan coming from upstairs. My stomach turned, then the sound cut off abruptly—like someone had heard the front door. Silence. I took off my shoes. Moved through the stairs like a shadow. Slow and silent, I wanted to find out what was going on, hoping I could use it against Marian later.. I paused at our bedroom door and pushed it open. Marian’s legs spread out, her eyes met mine as I stood by the door. Frozen with my mouth wide open. “Shit! Jalen?”Jalen’s POVThe branches in the woods scratched against my arms softly as I pushed through the darkness, calling her name over and over until my throat burned.“Fiona!”I screamed as loud as I could, straining my ears to hear her respond but she never did. No answer.Only the whisper of leaves and my own pulse thundering in my ears but I kept moving, I told myself I would find her even if it meant dying in the thick forest. I ran faster, and deeper, not minding the darkness that swallowed me.Then I heard a faint cry from a distance. My heart stopped and restarted painfully in my chest as I turned toward the sound.“Fiona!”This time I didn’t wait for a response. I followed the direction of the sobs, stumbling over roots and rocks, my heart pounding faster until I saw her.Curled up in her own arms on the ground, trembling, crying into her hands as the world had ended. I've never seen her that frightened yet brave enough to sit in there for so long. I blamed myself for making her go t
Fiona’s POVI didn’t remember how I got out of the house, I couldn't stand the chaos anymore, my eyes burned as tears loosely dripped down my cheeks.I only knew that my father’s grip on my trembling arm had loosened for one second, and I used that second to run. The street was already dark and silent laced with only the crickets and soft windy sound but I didn’t mind the stillness of the night, I didn't mind any danger that could happen, I just knew my life was over and I needed to be out of everyone’s sight. I ran barefooted past the streetlights, even when I didn’t have a place to go, I didn’t stop, I couldn’t go home with them, I sprinted into the street, wandering until an idea dropped in my mind.“Paris, yes. I should go to her,” I whispered. My chest hurts. My throat burned. Tears blinded my vision as my legs carried me to her house without another thought. If there was anyone left in this world who might listen to me, it had to be her.Even after our fight, I needed my friend
Jalen’s POVI knew Marian was planning something the moment she started humming in the kitchen this afternoon. She never hummed; maybe I can’t remember the last time I was home with her all day to hear her hum once. She only did that when she received her paycheck and had planned how to squander it on a spree.I stood by the living room window, staring at the empty driveway, hands tucked into my pockets, trying to quiet the dread crawling up my spine.“Jalen,” she called sweetly.Too sweet for me to wonder what she was up against this time.I turned slowly. “Yes?”She leaned against the counter with her phone in her hand, smiling like a woman who had just received wonderful news. “I just spoke with Fiona’s parents.”My heart stopped.“What? For what?” I asked, my stomach clenched.“They’re coming for dinner tonight.”My jaw tightened. “You did what?”She shrugged casually. “Invited them over. It’s been a while since we've all had a proper family dinner with friends. Don’t you think?”
Fiona’s POVThe phone screen blurred as fresh tears gathered in my lids, I stared at the floor—shivering as the post stuck to my head.It was a photoshopped naked body with my face perfectly placed on it. I knew it because I had never taken such a disgusting picture all my life. Legs spread out, arched back, mouth opened in fake ecstasy. My hands trembled, struggling to grip my phone from falling, my feet turned cold in my warm baby shoes as thousands of comments exploded beneath the post. I was called all sorts of names. Slut. Whore. Plaything. I could barely lift a foot without being talked down on yet all that came to my mind was how to prevent my parents from finding out—not even who did this wicked act to me. I couldn’t breathe. The exam hall doors felt miles away. I managed to push myself—worst decision of my life.Whispers chased me down to my seat. Eyes followed. Phones lifted. I couldn’t bear it. I wanted to scream at all of them that the post isn’t true, but no one wo
Jalen’s POV Marian glared at me for a long minute without a word, I held my breath for as long as she stared, trying to imagine what was going on in her head. If only she could just say something, her silence was killing me. Then she turned on her heel and walked upstairs. The silence she left behind was louder than any slap she had landed on me. I paced after her, blocking her way—interupting her steps. “Marian, wait—” She pushed past me like I was invisible, my heart pounded as I persisted. In the bedroom, she sat on the edge of the mattress, focused on her phone, scrolling through some funny videos. She managed to smile with the corner of her lips.I stood in the doorway, thinking of what to say to her at that oddly moment, she ignored me—completely. I dragged myself to her presence like a little kid in trouble and crashed on my knees. I never thought to see myself in such a position but Fiona's life was at stake. “Please, marian” I paused, and cleared my throat. “Don’
Fiona’s POV “Um, no he wasn’t, Dad. I had a very bad period cramp and it hurts,” I answered with a trembling voice. My mum smeared her lips, like she wanted to believe me.“Is that so?” he asked and I nodded quickly before sliding off my chair to leave. “I’ll be in my room,” I said, but mum’s voice slashed in before I could move an inch.“And who would you leave all this to tidy?” she asked, her voice dangerous. I turned to start packing when they both left for their room. Then relief washed over me. As soon as I was done, I rushed back to my room in haste before my mum thought of another task she would want me to do. I shut my door quietly and crashed hard on my bed until I fell asleep.***********The next day came without a warning, I had slept in one position throughout the night and the pain crawled through my skin as I stretched out of bed to the bathroom. Then I remembered Jalen was supposed to explain everything that had happened to me. He hadn’t.I frowned and picked u
