Chapter 6 Teach You A Lesson

Author: Carly Chaplin
"Why should I trust you?"

He was experienced for his age, so he wasn't easily fooled.

Apart from business risks, developing a menu and experimenting with new dishes required a significant amount of money. He can't afford to take such a risk anymore.

Lana remained calm upon hearing this. Her bright eyes looked around the shop.

"Because your shop can't sustain itself anymore. Am I wrong?"

The boss' expression stiffened.

Indeed, the landlord had come knocking just yesterday because he hadn't paid rent for three months.

If the business didn't pick up this month, he would have no choice but to close the shop and return to the countryside.

"You still have a chance as long as you try, as opposed to waiting around to go bankrupt. Isn't trying better than doing nothing? Can the situation get worse than it is now?"

Lana's words tempted him. In the end, he gritted his teeth in painful realization and extended his hand to her.

"I'm Peter Walton. Welcome."

Lana shook his hand in response. "I'm Lana Clark. Nice to meet you."

"What should we do next, Ms. Clark?"

Peter hadn't realized that he was already taking orders from a young woman he had just met.

"First, I must inform you that from now on, our restaurant will only sell vegan dishes."

Peter was filled with confusion. "Why?"

"Because I'm a vegan!"

"Alright."

"Next, I'll write down some of the main dishes we'll serve. You can prepare the ingredients, and I'll do the cooking."

"What about the storefront and the restaurant's name?"

Lana thought for a moment. "Let's keep it simple. We'll print out the name for now. We can make it look better when the restaurant expands."

"Alright then!"

For some reason, Peter didn't think that Lana was lying. He happily followed her instructions and got things done.

Since it was already late, there would be no customers even if they remained open. Hence, Peter decided to close the restaurant and complete the tasks Lana had given him. They would reopen tomorrow.

Since Lana had already explained everything to Peter, she decided to go home. She wanted to check on Nadia's leg.

It was quite crowded on the street, so Lana took a shortcut to save time. Just as she was about to leave the area, some people suddenly approached her in an alley.

The leader of the group, Billy Henderson, was a guy around 18 or 19 years old with blonde hair. He wore a black T-shirt that exposed a tattoo covering his right arm.

The two guys beside him looked related. Kelvin Hutcherson had red hair, while Luke Norton sported green hair. It seemed that they were trying hard to look menacing.

Lana burst into laughter right away.

Red, yellow, and green? Were they living, breathing traffic lights?

Lana didn't bother waiting for them to speak. "What's up? Is this a robbery?"

The trio was momentarily stunned. How had she known?

Since the situation had come to this, they didn't bother to beat around the bush. Billy stepped forward.

"Why ask if you already know? Hand over your valuables!"

Lana laughed once more. "Who are you to pull this stunt on me? Know your place!"

If these guys had been sharp, they would have noticed that Lana wasn't afraid of being robbed. On the contrary, she remained calm. There was even a peculiar glimmer of excitement in her eyes.

A black car was parked not far away. Chris gripped the steering wheel tightly. He was so anxious that his palms were sweaty.

"Liam, there's a robbery. How dare they do this in broad daylight? I should go and save that lady."

Liam had been resting in the back seat of the car, but the disturbance had irritated him enough to wake him up.

"Let it be. Last month, your seven-year-old nephew left you with a swollen face and bruised nose."

Chris narrowed his eyes. How had Liam found out about that embarrassing incident?

Seeing that Chris was no longer trying to act tough, Liam's gaze finally turned toward the scene.

The lady surrounded by the group didn't seem very old. Even though he couldn't make out her face, Liam could already imagine her fate.

However, what happened next was beyond his expectations.

The traffic light trio shared the same thought as Liam. Even though it was their first time doing something like this, a young lady couldn't possibly pose a threat to them.

In the blink of an eye, the three quickly closed in on Lana. But the next moment, they felt like they were kicking an iron wall.

Lana remained calm and composed. She swiftly seized Luke's arm and kneed him. He let out a miserable cry as he fell to the ground.

Kelvin tried to launch a surprise attack from behind, but Lana swiftly kicked her leg backward, making him fall to the ground. Not only that, but she also managed to land a blow on his stomach.

The oldest one, Billy, got anxious and charged at Lana. "You little brat! I'm going to kill you! Do you know who I am?"

Lana calmly waited until he was close before making a sudden move. Grabbing his hair, she pulled his head down and used her knee to knock him out cold.

After dealing with the useless pieces of trash, Lana dusted her hands together. She uttered coldly, "I don't care who you are, but I want you to know who I am."

The once ferocious trio suddenly turned weak as they begged on the ground.

"I was wrong. I would never do it again. You're our boss.”

"We were wrong. Please forgive us, boss."

Lana didn't continue to beat them up. She bent down, looked at them ominously, and smiled.

It was the peak of summer, but why did they feel as if they were in the midst of a freezing winter?

"Boss, what are you doing? Why are you taking off my clothes?"

"Boss, please spare us. My mom just bought this for me. She worked day and night so that she could afford this."

Lana knocked on their heads. "Why did you pull such a stunt if you understand your parents' hardships?"

"We had no choice."

"Yeah, we didn't want to do this either. Our families are poor, and people at school look down on us. We had to skip classes and come to the streets just to avoid being bullied by them."

Lana let out a silent sigh, frustrated with this messed-up society.

"Boss? What's wrong?"

Billy was surprised and relieved when Lana returned their clothes to them.

"Is there any way to make some quick money?"

Making money at the pasta shop would take at least two or three months. But Nadia's leg couldn't wait that long. Lana needed to get Nadia's leg treated first. Otherwise, they would have left the Clark family in vain.

Luke immediately responded, "Sure, boss. You can rob someone!"

Billy's mind raced, and he smacked Luke's head hard. "Are you crazy? How could our boss do something like that? Do you think she's one of us?"

Lana smiled in satisfaction as she watched him. "Good to know. Do you have any good suggestions?"

Billy smiled back. "Boss, come with me."

Meanwhile, the temperature in the car seemed to drop as Liam and Chris watched the group of four walk away. The air seemed so stale that it became hard to breathe.

"Wow. Those three guys thought they could beat that lady up but ended up being outplayed by her! How did she end up taking them away?" Chris commented. He was glad he hadn't gone out earlier and embarrassed himself.

Liam fell deep into thought. Why did that lady seem familiar?
