Chapter 17 Mr and Mrs Netherfells

The Society. Nobody wanted to be a pariah, being part of The Society meant you were somebody, you achieved something. The Society could chew you up and spit you out or make you raise to the top. Noble people were most welcomed and desired as everybody sought their companion and wanted to be noticed by an earl, baron or the duke. Recently new group of people has been added to The Society, the rich ones. Being a noble person doesn’t always equal to being wealthy. Quite often the nobles were on the verge of bankruptcy than marrying a nouveau riche might be a life saving matter, thus marriages of that kind occurred more often. Mr and Mrs Netherfells were an example of such marriage.

Mrs Netherfel was a plain plump Beta in her thirties, her father was a successful merchant in the vine business. Her husband was the second son of baron, tall, lanky Alpha with piercing blue eyes a bit older than his wife. He had that sophisticated look of being bored wherever he was, as if his presence was a
