I sat behind my desk in the home office, papers spread out in front of me. The afternoon sun came through the big windows. Across from me, Elder Marcus, one of the senior advisors, leaned forward, pointing at the map we were discussing.

“...and if we shift the southern patrol route here, we can cover the new border with fewer men,” he was saying.

I nodded, about to reply, when the door burst open.
