‎Lyra's POV

Seeing the sadness on Dr. Sam's face, as he handed me the scan results, made me scared.

‎I requested an ultrasound scan after more than 2 years of being married without a child.

‎Stammering as I stared at the scan results, "Dr. Sam, what does this mean?..."

‎"You've got to tell me this isn't correct... Please tell me it's a mistake.... It can't be, please Dr., please..."

‎"I am really sorry, Luna...am..."

‎"I'm sure I can still have children, doctor… my womb is fine, just like every other woman’s, right? I deserve that chance… every woman deserves to hold her own child, don’t they?"

‎Mated to Eamon, the pack's Alpha, for 2 years now, we haven't had any child. Eamon manifested as my mate while I was 18 at the pack's mating ball, all the pack knew me, and they all hid their thoughts towards the fact that I haven't conceived yet. So Eamon suggested an ultrasound test, and to my greatest surprise, the test showed I could never conceive.

‎I had so many dreams of that little boy who would become the next Alpha of the Silver Claw Pack. For a while I wished that I was never the Luna. Maybe it wouldn't be so much of a burden if I was mated to an unranked wolf.

‎"I really wish there's something I could do, Luna," Dr. Sam said sympathetically, looking at the floor. "I’m really sorry."

‎"It's not your fault, Sam. It's not your fault. I'll be on my way now, Sam. But swear that not a single soul would hear this, Sam, not yet."

"I swear to you Luna, I would rather die that say a word to anybody."

‎But ignoring the guilt I saw on his face was not easy. For the first time, he seems nervous and couldn't look me in the eye when he spoke.

‎"Are you sure you're okay?..."

‎"No.... Yes... I'm okay. You shouldn't worry about me, you need someone to comfort you, Lyra," his voice shaking.

I stepped out of the clinic and headed to my driver's car, the same car that brought me from AETHER INC., a billion dollars oil production company. It was one of the many businesses Eamon owned. Though I was the manager, Eamon was still the director.

Thoughts filled my mind on how I would tell Eamon he would not have an heir from his dear Luna.

‎My loud sobbing caught my driver's attention.

I looked at the rearview mirror, I could see his forehead squeezed.

‎"Luna, is everything alright?... Could I help you with anything?" my driver asked while showing down.

‎"Don't worry, Phillip. Just take me home."

‎Stepping out of the car, I reached into my bag for the house key, only to notice the door I locked while leaving was now slightly open, as though someone was still in.

‎I stepped into the house, and I heard noises from our bedroom.

‎My heart pounded hard at first as I walked toward our room; I thought someone might have broken in to steal.

‎But just as I neared the slightly opened door, I froze.

‎A pair of high heels sat by the mat. Those shoes looked too familiar. I stepped closer, then I heard sounds of moans of a lady.

My chest burned with rage. I pushed the door wide open.

And I froze.

Eamon was on top of Mira. She lay sprawled across the bed, her hair messy over the pillow, one leg hooked tightly around his waist. His hands gripped her hips as if he couldn’t let go. Their clothes were scattered across the floor, thrown aside.

They didn’t even notice me at first. Their eyes were only on each other.

‎I couldn’t believe it. Eamon… here… doing this.

‎Mira, is my twin sister, we never got along well from childhood but her hatred towards me grew because she says I'm the reason our mother and father died in a pack war between the Silver Claw Pack and Moonshadow Pack.

‎The Silver Claw and Moonshadow Packs had always been at odds over the riverlands. That war was the breaking point, they fought over territory and resources.

I remembered the day it all happened. Father told me to stay inside, but I was stubborn. I ran out of the shelter to save the cat doll my mom gave me for my second year birthday. He chased after me, and carried me back.

Mother had tried to stay behind, but worries made her follow. She came after us, calling my name. That was when the Moonshadow soldiers struck. She fell first, then Father ran towards the soldiers to bring him down, he told use to run and not look back, that was the last we saw him.

They both died because of me.

From then on, the rivalry between the packs only burned hotter… but for me, it was guilt I could never wash away.

‎Seeing what Eamon did with Mira, I couldn’t take it. I turned and ran. Behind me, I heard him calling, his voice chasing after me.

‎“Lyra, wait!”

‎But even hearing him made the pain worse. I ran faster, just wanting to get away from him.

‎I pushed the door open and stepped outside. The sun was already going down, but I didn’t stop. I hurried down the steps and crossed the yard.

‎At the road, I saw a taxi coming and waved it down.

‎"Where to, Luna?" the taxi driver asked.

‎"Take me far from here... Very far..." I replied in rage as tears dripped down my face.

‎The taxi kept moving, street after street passing by. I leaned my head against the window, but no matter how far we drove, the image in my head couldn't go. My tears dried, but the emptiness I felt only grew.

‎After a while, I told the driver to turn back. I had nowhere else to go.

‎When I reached the house, it was quiet. Eamon wasn’t home. For once, I felt relief. I walked inside, straight to the bedroom.

I lay down on the bed, my body weak. The pillow was the last thing I could hold on to until sleep finally pulled me under.

Darkness surrounded me, then voices started to echo.

“You are nothing to me, Lyra… I wish you were never my mate.” Eamon’s face appeared, full of anger.

Then my father’s voice, sharp and deep.

“You caused your mother’s death, Lyra. You are cursed. The Moon Goddess punishes you with barrenness.”

I tried to cover my ears, but the words kept on coming.

Mira’s face came next, with a smirk on her face.

“This is only the beginning, Lyra. I’ve taken Eamon. Soon, I’ll take everything you have.”

The shadows moved closer. Their whispers filled the dark until I couldn’t breathe.

“No!” I screamed, jolting awake. My breathing came fast and rough.

Light slipped through the curtains. It was already morning. For a while I just lay there, staring, wishing all that happened yesterday was all a nightmare.

I dragged myself out of bed, splashed water on my face, and got dressed. I felt very heavy I didn’t leave, but keeping busy was easier than standing still.

In the kitchen, I made a quick breakfast. It tasted like nothing, but I forced myself to eat.

I had just started clearing the table when the door opened.

Eamon walked in.

  • THE THIRD MATING   Chapter 171: He’s With Her

RONAN:“Hello, Master Ronan.” His shaky voice came from the phone.“Which among you is this?” I asked.“Sir, this is Philip. We were attacked by a group of men in a van. Jackson was shot in the head, and I drove the car into the lake. The current pulled us toward the waterfall. I had to go get help, so I left.”“But you said you tried helping Lyra and she said no and all that stuff, didn’t you?” I asked. He stammered but didn’t say anything. That was all I needed. Lyra wouldn’t want to die because of the pup, so it was clear already. He ran.“You know what? I want you to do something for me, Philip. Give me the exact place you abandoned Lyra and her unborn child so I can come over,” I snarled.“I am sorry, sir, I didn’t…”I cut the call.“The water carried them there. That’s why she is so far away,” I said.“But can it take her so far?” Silas asked.“That’s the only way,” I said. “You said it yourself. The island is a seven day journey by the normal route. She must have been carried t

RONAN:“I know where Lyra could be,” I stated. “Lisa said—”“Lisa said nothing, Ronan,” he snapped.“If she ever wanted to help, then she wouldn’t try to make you cheat on Lyra like that,” he explained, anger filling his eyes.“How did she know where you are? How did she know who Lyra is? And why do you trust her?” he asked, frowning.“But why do you act like she’s a stranger?” I asked.“I never liked that tramp, not for one second, because I know what she tried to do in your head before,” Silas confessed.“She said she knew who Lyra was because Darius sent her to do a spell to find Lyra, the same spell she did to find me just now,” I explained. “She said I should get Lyra first before Darius finds Lyra, because she will have to report back to Darius,” I added, folding my hands.Silas sighed, dropping his head to the ground.“How do we find Lyra?” he asked.“She said Lyra was on an island very far away from land,” I explained.“That doesn’t make sense. I mean, how can she be so far aw

  • THE THIRD MATING   Chapter 169: The Wrong Moment

RONAN:“I’ll do all I can to find you, Lyra, to find our pup,” I whispered to her picture on the bed.I had never been this worried about anything or anyone, but my fear was that Lyra couldn’t fight for herself. She was pregnant, and pregnancy stopped females from shifting.I stood up from the bed, pacing in my room, when a soft knock came from the door. All I wanted was to be alone, not talking to anyone, but it could be something important.I walked to the door and opened it a little. My eyes went wide when I saw who it was.It was Lisa, the girl who once had feelings for me. Feelings I knew about but never acted on. We hadn’t seen each other in over nine years, not since she left and our lives went in different directions.I hadn’t expected to ever see her again.“Lisa? What are you doing here?” I whispered in shock.“I have to tell you something important,” she said. “About Lyra. I know where she is.”I pulled her inside immediately, closing the door behind us.“How have you been,

  • THE THIRD MATING   Chapter 168: Forget...

LYRA:I woke up slowly, the way you do when sleep doesn’t want to let you go. The fire had died down to glowing red coals. The air smelled like smoke. My body ached everywhere, my back, my legs, my head from the uncomfortable rock laid. I blinked, trying to focus.Cole was still sitting where I last saw him, his knees pulled up, arms resting on them. But he wasn’t looking at the trees anymore. He was looking at me.His eyes caught the faint orange light from the coals. They looked darker than usual, almost black. My heart gave a funny jump, the kind that happens when you realize someone has been watching you sleep.“You okay?” he asked.I nodded, even though I wasn’t sure. My mouth felt dry again. I pushed myself up on one elbow. The ground was cold under my palm.He moved then, slowly, like he didn’t want to scare me. He slid closer until his knee brushed my leg. I should have moved away. I didn’t.“Lyra,” he said, softly. Before I could think, his warm hand was on my cheek. His th

  • THE THIRD MATING   Chapter 167: I know where she is

THIRD PERSON POV:Lisa felt sad and a little hurt inside. Darius always got what he wanted from her. She picked up her clothes from the floor. She put them back on with shaky hands. Her body still hurt a little from what happened. She looked around the office. Papers were all over the place. The desk was messy. She fixed her hair and wiped her face. Then she walked out of the office. The door clicked shut behind her.She went back to her massage room. The client was already gone now. Her helper had finished the job. Lisa sat down on a chair. She thought about Darius and what he asked. He wanted her to find Lyra. Lyra was pregnant. The baby was important to the pack. Lisa knew she had to help. But she did not like it.Lisa remembered her mom. Her mom was a witch. She taught Lisa some magic things. Lisa had special powers because of that. She could do spells to find people. Her mom left her some tools. Like crystals, old books, and special herbs. Lisa kept them hidden at home. She fin

  • THE THIRD MATING   Chapter 166: Exhausted beside him

LYRA:We walked for a long time without talking. The forest was big and scary. Trees everywhere. Thick vines hanging down.My legs hurt a lot. My stomach made hungry noises. The baby inside me moved a little, like it was saying, “Mom, I’m tired too.”Cole walked in front of me. He didn’t look back. He just kept going. I followed because I was afraid to be alone. My feet stepped on sticks and leaves. They made crunching sounds. Sometimes I slipped on mud. I caught myself before I fell.I wanted to ask questions. Like, where are we going? Do you know this place? But I stayed quiet. I was still mad at him. After some time, the sun started to go down. The light became orange and weak. Shadows grew long and dark.Cole stopped. He looked around.“We need water,” he said. “And a place to sleep. It will be night soon.”I nodded. My throat felt dry.He pointed to a small path between the trees. “This way. I hear water.”We walked again. Now it was harder to see. Branches hit my arms. I kept my
