LOGINI joined the Order of Valhalla Bridge because it was simple; they get the jobs; they send you your assignment, and once completed you get paid. That's exactly how this assignment was supposed to go. Just somewhere along the way, the web became so tangled. One slip messed up everything, now my target has turned into the hunter, intent on making me his prey. Determined to take what he thinks is his. Why would he think I was his Bride? They ordered my team to track him down, recover what was stolen, and kill him. Yet I reacted to his touch. If The Order found out, I would be dishonored. Now I am stuck between a possessive Alpha obsessed with a new toy, a vampire who thinks me his bride and a Berserker intent on winning me. What could possibly go wrong?

“Marriage?, of all things to bind the companies with? marriage, mum c'mon, I sigh with annoyance, “there's no way I'm getting married to that son of a bitch”.
“Do you have a better idea?”, she takes off her glasses and places it on the table waiting for an answer, “that's what I thought. This is the only way to merge the companies, we'll be a strong empire, stronger than anyone here in Manhattan and the whole of DC”.
She was right, for years we've been trying to build up our company so it gets to the top, although it's a slow process everyday we are getting there but my mother's selfish and greedy ambition would never allow her see the bigger picture.
“There has to be another way. This…this can't be the only way out. Mum, I'm not ready for marriage, hell I don't even want to get married. We don't even love each other ,I….”
“Enough!!” she slams the table and I pause, You are a Withmore, we don't marry for love but empires, I also had to sacrifice my happiness for this company. How do you plan on being CEO if you don't want to make hard decisions huh? Enough nagging and complaining, I'm sick and tired of it. 3pm today we're going to sign that contract at the Grayson’s company, be prepared
Now, leave my office”
I didn't need anyone to tell me mymother's various unsaid sacrifices for this company or that if I did say another word she'll have my very head on her table, so I stand up and leave with my eyes on the brink of tears.
********
In as much as my very soul was crushed with the news I had received earlier, I still had to continue with work and try my absolute best to fill up my mind with something other than it. One would think that because my mother is the CEO of this company i would have it easy, wrong I didn't, instead I worked more than anyone, did everyone's job and still had to find time to be pretty in front of cameras, it was mentally draining.
Everyday is the same, wake up at 4am, go for jog, return home, eat, head directly to work and not see the city until it's after dark, head home around 9 and the cycle continues, but I wasn't complaining I will continue doing all of it till my mother saw my importance.
“Remind me again why HR hasn't reached out to the Simpson’s family to give them their daughter's pay?” I ask Stella as she looks confused.
Regal Simpson died of cancer a few months ago and despite promising the family a little package as a thank you, the company hasn't done anything.
“Your mother said it was a waste of funds, that the family didn't need our money”
“It's our duty whether they need it or not” I say with anger at the tip of my tongue, “and Regal was my employee my mother doesn't have a say in it, head to HR to issue that cheque now” I order.
“Yes ma'am” Stella runs away.
I wasn't a harsh person and raising my voice at my employees was never an option but with the news that I heard this morning it has really messed up with me.
I take another deep breath and drink my coffee when I hear a knock on my door,
“Stella, if you're here to complain about anything I don't have the patience” I say, dropping my coffee and not looking up.
“Stella? Your hot secretary? Where is she”,I hear the familiar voice that has always annoyed the hell out of me, Dexter Grayson.
Dexter Grayson aka my enemy aka my nemesis aka the most infuriating , self absorbed son of a bitch, aka my future.. husband.
“What do you want, Dexter?” I angrily say.
“That is no way to greet your future husband now, is it lovely wife?” He smiles and tries to peck me but I shift away with disgust, “rude” he scoffs.
“So you've heard then? Great. Get out” I give him a stern look.
“Still fiesty, still annoying but sexy as ever, “he takes in a deep breath and looks at me from my head to down like as if he was planning to kidnap me or something, “Tell me how did you react when you found out that the man you hate with everything in you is going to be your husband” he says with an annoying smile on his face that even increases my annoyance.
“And how did you react when you found out that the woman you also hate with everything is going to be your dear wife” I mock him, “remember when you said you'd never be with a woman like me? How's that working out for ya? I smiled slightly even though I was boiling with anger.
“Believe it or not I was thrilled, I mean you always acted like they'll never be anything between us but look at us now, face to face and getting married in three weeks” he laughs and claps his hand.
I'm sorry, what? Three weeks?? The blood on my face drains and my spine stiffens.
“With that look on your face I'm guessing you didn't know. Wow your mum really does suck”
“she does but that's not your place to say you fucking idiot” I take a deep breath in while clutching the arm of my chair turning my knuckles white.
“Three weeks Lorraine, we're going to be legally tied in front of millions of people showcasing our love, how exciting” he sips my coffee and smiles evily.
“Look Dexter I don't have time nor do I have the patience to entertain your rubbish today, you either leave or I will throw you out” I cross my hand across my chest, “pick one or I will and you wouldn't like what I'd pick” I sit back holding my anger before I explode.
“Fine fine,” he puts his hand up in surrender, “I would leave but don't forget we are going to be married,” he says in a more serious tone, “gotta start giving me some love and respect, I'm not going to tolerate your bullshit in our marriage. Start acting right wifey” he says in a mocking tone and leaves.
It's official I hate my mother
“What?” I asked, looking up at her.“You zoned out, we were asking if you wanted to come to town with us.”“How?” I laughed, gesturing to my eyes.”Sáta smiled, “I found these.” And threw a pair of sunglasses at me.“Come on, even you need to have some fun once in a while.” Thana smiled.“Very well.” I smiled back. “Let me change, though.”“Here, put this on.” Sáta smiled, throwing me some clothes. I looked at them, then at her.“What we should dress like they do to blend in, our normal stuff, is what we wore back when Vikings were still raiding and pillaging.“Where did you get this?” I asked her.“We went shopping the other day, before we went to the bar.”I shook my head and got up, heading to my tent; I washed the blood off. They must’ve removed whatever it was from the vampire, because I was finally healing.I removed my normal gear and put on the clothes Sáta had given me if you could call it that, the black skirt barely covered my ass, and the shirt was no better a blood red ha
“You are not my superior; General Nerine and I will do as I please.” General Abtez informed me.“And I am your equal. You will do well to remember that.” I retorted.“I might have a soft spot for you, Nerine, but I will not be taking orders from you.” He told me his voice was a hoarse whisper, so the others wouldn’t hear his words.“It's General Nerine and if you think you can intimidate me, you are mistaken.” I scolded him as I walked over to Thana, who handed me a horn of mead. “I have dealt with worse than you.”He looked at me confused, “head back to camp.” He told his men, and they left.“You will not share who is worse than me, are you?” He asked as he studied my face.“What concern is it of yours?” I retorted, as a memory flashed through my mind. I cringed at the image. He went to move toward me; I glared at him, and he hesitated before turning to follow his men away from the camp.Once they were out of sight, I downed the mead and breathed a sigh of relief.I joined the other
I waited for an attack, but nothing happened, I watched as the eyes continued to stare, watching me. “Come out, I know you're there.” I told the creature. A large grey wolf walked out of the bushes and towards me. His amber eyes stayed on me as he moved closer. I sighed and put my weapon away, “Let me guess. You are one of the pack members?” The wolf nodded. “Why are you so far from the pack?” I asked curious, it would have taken a wolf a couple hours to get this far. The wolf walked into the forest and came out a few minutes later wearing nothing but a pair of boxer shorts. Alpha Rawlins stood before me, “Why didn’t you come back with the others?” he asked, sitting down next to me. Being half naked didn’t even seem to phase the guy. “Wanted to be alone.” I lied. He looked at me, his eyes switching from green to amber. “Don’t lie Nerine. I saw your team come back without you and thought something had happened to you.” “The vampire bound himself to me, everything the interrog
I looked at my team and addressed them, “it is rare for us to have free time, we will use it to our advantage.” “You mean you needed to get away from camp and the bond that our target formed with you?” Reva accused as she walked over, her blonde hair braided haphazardly and green eyes staring daggers at me. She was a smaller build and shorter than the others in our group, which was surprising because we were all considered short, among the other Valkyries. “And where were you when we captured the target, Reva?” I retorted, annoyed. “Waiting like you told us.” “No, you were supposed to come with me into that club but when we were surrounded by the vampires people you fled and come to think of it you didn’t return with us either. So where were you.” I asked her as I walked closer to her. “I would never run from a battle.” “If I didn’t have to go into the damn club alone, things would be different.” “You did run, I saw you from our ambush spot.” Thana retorted boredly as she cleane
I woke as the sun was rising and readied for my day; I walked out of my tent; my team was gathered eating breakfast. “Good Morning, Nerine.” Thana smiled as she hands me a cup of the herb tea and a bowl of porridge. “Thanks.” “Can’t have that bond screwing stuff up while we are heading into the moun
“What did she do exactly?” I asked, now worried, if she gave away any of our secrets, our whole team would be put on trial and judged. “I don’t know if she broke any laws per se, she disappeared for a while last night and didn’t tell anyone where she went to.” “So, she did what you guys did to us?”
“Nerine, wake up?” I opened my eyes, seeing Thana looking down at me. “What’s wrong?” I asked, sitting up and facing her. “General Abtez wants you to go with him to meet Alpha Rawlins.” “Really? You woke me up cause the big scary Berserker needs me to hold his hand?” I laughed. “Pretty much.” Thana
When I awoke, it was dark outside, and I could hear people talking. “You should’ve stopped the interrogation; you could’ve killed her.” Sáta yelled at someone. “She told me not to, she knows how important our mission is.” General Abtez retorted. I sat up, looking at my blankets. Blood was everywhere
