***Fiona

Sleep was restless. A torturous endeavor.

I finished cleaning and wrapping his wounds. He fell asleep quickly after the medicine kicked in. It had been an eventful day, but I couldn’t seem to stay asleep knowing I was in the same bed as him. I kept waking every time he shifted or a groan rung out from the pain.

Moonlight fell into the room from the skylight above and I watched as his chest rose steadily with each breath. I tucked into him, inhaling that heavenly scent he had about him.

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 15: Lilies

***FionaJulian asked what my favorite flower was and I replied… well, my hand replied.Lilies.And not just any lily but an orange and yellow Asiatic lily. Gorgeous with their flaring petals of vibrant color and emanating luster. Like little clusters of dipped hues, they mimicked the sunset. Our sunset… just before he fell and took my heart with him.And now, I couldn’t stop the catapulting of my heartbeat as I sat back in a reclined chair in his shed. Top half covered but no pants, only panties on with my legs splayed apart for all the world to see.He told me to trust him. And I did… but what the hell was I doing here?a"Are you sure about this?" Kaia barked in my head."Absolutely not."Though he had two heaters propped and directed at both my legs, it didn’t stop the January chill that hovered around the tiny room, which was about half the size of his living room.He placed a blanket over me while leaving my bottom half exposed. A position I couldn’t be more uncomfortable in. He

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 14: Branded

***FionaMy eyes fluttered open. Warmth flushed my core as I felt his hands brushing strands of loosen curls away from my forehead. I cooed softly and nuzzled myself into his burly arms, breathing in his aromatic musk. Morning light fell upon his face and I lower my gaze to his lips. Instantly my fingertips began to trace the soft petals, parting slightly as he inhaled me. He lowered his mouth to mine, and my skin flared like it might ignite all over again. What happened last night... it was like a dream. Every part of me felt alive, reacting to every movement. Every touch. Something no man had made me feel before. Wanted. Needed. Desired. I could lose myself in this sensation. Lose myself with him.Slowly, Julian pulled his head away from mine and his brows tightened, straightening himself up on his side next to me.“Fiona, I know why you ran away. I saw it…” his voice trailed, placing a hand on my arm as his eyes lingered, waiting for my reaction.Instantly, fear pinched at my chest

I kept waking every time he shifted or a groan rung out from the pain.Moonlight fell into the room from the skylight above and I watched as his chest rose steadily with each breath. I tucked into him, inhaling that heavenly scent he had about him. Warm and woodsy. I almost lost him today. The memory of him falling between the mountain replayed in my head. What if the slabs hadn’t caught him? What if Kaia couldn't reach him? What if?His body turned towards mine under the blanket and he pressed into me, eyes still shut. I exhaled. The heat from his body radiated and I watched his lips. They parted slightly as calm and quiet breaths slipped through, drifting in a soothing rhythm.I wanted to chart the contours of his face. Wanted to reach

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 12: Rock and a Hard Place

***FionaThe sky stood calm like a virgin canvas without a cloud in sight. A sea of brilliant blue coasted from corner to corner while the forest enveloped us. I stepped through the snow with my borrowed boots, laced tight since they were a couple inches too big.I had never gone out with Julian before. Kaia always took my place, but I felt like I needed to make amends, even something as simple as a stroll with him, to cut the tension. I couldn't stand this new aawkwardness between us. The avoidance and side glances. Could things ever be as they were before? Easy and effortless. No, not after that kiss, I reminded myself with a frown. He walked in front of me as we hiked the trail, shoulders easing only slightly. Occasionally, he’d break off through glades of snow whipped shrubbery to check on a trap. Then continue onto the next one, trudging his way through a new blanket of snow, as high as his knees. We must have taken the scenic route because we wound up on a steeper trail. No ta

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 11: Anguish

***FionaI couldn’t return his gaze. Not the next morning nor the day after. I tossed and turned in bed, struggling to stop my head from drifting to thoughts of his mouth… his hands. Remembering the way it felt to have his touch. The sounds he drew from my mouth. Knowing he was just below those stairs, sound asleep in that fitted white tee and gray sweatpants. A few feet away and willing to give me everything I wanted. There were no words. No way to explain why I ran out… without having to show him. Anguish rolled through me in shallow, self-deprecating waves. I wanted to scream; I wanted to shout from the top of my lungs. How was I supposed to ever be naked with a man again? Even after running away, Greyson still had this power over me, this invisible noose still hanging around my neck. But Julian… he didn’t make me feel insecure or embarrassed. It felt effortless with him. Easy. And he was so tender, so gentle, all the while keeping that hint of gruffness about him that I secretly a

  • Hunter and the Silent Wolf   Chapter 10: Fire

***JulianBourbon sloshed the bottom of my glass and I threw back a shot as Fiona curled up on the floor in front of the fireplace, teetering among the shelves of books. I sat in the armchair next to her, trying to focus on the novel in front of me. But the task was impossible with her so close. The very thought of someone trying to hurt her, to take her away, had me on edge. I just wanted to protect her… to hold her close. I clenched my fist, straining against the urge to pick her up and throw her onto my bed.I poured another shot. And then another.Fuck it.Heat burned the inside of my chest and warmth radiated. I felt need and want and worry, all the sensations simultaneously flushing every extremity. I stood; my shadow cast against the wooden panels from the flickering flames.I walked over to where she sat. Her shoulders tensed but she didn’t turn around. Slowly, I knelt behind her, lowering my mouth softly to her ear.“Take off your sweater. Show me your wound,” I husked, voice
