Oscar.
I got up from the bed and began to pace back and forth in the room. Karen was fast asleep, so I made an effort not to wake her up. She looked amazing, covered in my sheets. It was hard to believe that a woman, as beautiful as she was, had never been with a man before. She was extremely gorgeous, and I knew it wasn't the mate bond that was causing me to see her this way. She was breathtaking.Being with Karen was amazing. I felt calm like never before. I had never been with a virgin. I usually avoided them because grooming them was a lot of work. Karen was different. I knew when the time came, it would be awesome. Although I looked forward to it, I was willing to wait a bit, just to be sure I could handle what was happening. No matter what happens between us, I knew I could not allow myself to fall in love with her.
The peace I had experienced with Karen was worth risking a lot for. She was just amazing. Her response to my touch was incredible; if I didn't know better, I would have sworn she felt the mate bond too. I needed to sort things out quickly so I can prolong my time with Karen.
According to the wolves that attacked us, they had found out about Karen from the Wilde Corp. I wonder who their mole was. If I hadn't offered Karen a job, there is a possibility she would have remained hidden.
How was I to know that she came with so much baggage? I thought it would be business as usual with her. I knew I needed to find the mole in my company. Although there were only two packs in town and we had a treaty amongst ourselves, I could not have a mole in my Corporation leaking information to outsiders. Information has always been powerful and could be dangerous in the wrong hands.
I wish I hadn't gone to my uncle for help. I had panicked and wasn't thinking. Now that he knew, he would expect me to do as he had advised, which was to leave her to her fate. The truth was, Karen was hidden and safe before I hired her. I should have turned away from her. Maybe she would have suffered a little and then skipped town. As things were, skipping town won't do much for her anymore.
I needed to visit Alpha McCain to call a truce with him. Maybe we could both come to an arrangement on Karen's issue, and she could live as long as she could. After all, I wanted to believe that he was the only one that knew about her for now. I intended to keep her hidden from the vampires and the Hunters. Her father was the current leader of the vampires, and her grandfather was the head of all the supernatural hunters. This was a daunting task indeed.
I needed to arrange a meeting with Alpha McCain to discuss Karen's issue.
Coming to that resolve, I decided to get back into bed. The moment I laid down, Karen unconsciously moved closer to cuddle, and I gladly held her. All was at peace with the world, lying on the bed with her.
The next day I called Alpha McCain to arrange a meeting. He wasn't willing because he claimed that I wasn't an acting Alpha, but soon I was able to convince him to meet.
"Are we returning to town now?" Karen asked me.
"In a bit," I responded." I have a meeting this morning."
"Should I accompany you?" she asked, and I said no. Alpha McCain was hunting her; there was no need to take her to the wolf.
"So what am I to do while you are away?" she asked, and I looked at her.
"Honestly, Karen, I don't know. I am trying to figure out how best to protect you here. I hope you don't mind, please." I told her, and for the first time, I saw words affect Karen, and she shrunk back.
I went to her and held her. I couldn't help it. I knew what she was feeling; I could feel it too. She didn't want to be alone surrounded by strangers who could be werewolves when she knew that werewolves were hunting her.
"You are safe here, Karen. You have nothing to worry about. I promise I won't be long, and hopefully, if the meeting goes well, we can return to our normal lives in town", I said, and she began to cry.
"Why am I so unlucky?" She asked.
"I have never caused trouble for anyone or done anything bad to anyone, yet I remain unfortunate. I wonder why my fate is like this. I don't even know the people they claim I am related to, the reason why I am being hunted. If truly I was related to these people, why didn't they come to look for me? Is my mother also in hiding? What is so special about the Hunters that makes me a threat?" she asked.
Karen had so many questions, and I didn't know how to answer her. I wished I had the answers, especially now, but I didn't, and it kind of made me feel bad.
I knew I had to explain things to her a bit.
"The Hunter family are supernatural hunters. They are human beings with special abilities to locate and identify people like me. They also can match our skills and kill us. They are the most dreaded bloodline of all the supernatural hunters. It was all fair initially. The Hunters made sure everyone followed the rules, and no one cheated anyone. We saw them more like judges, juries and executioners. Whenever there were issues, the Hunters would solve them. They could tell when we were lying or when the vampires were being manipulative. They were also immune to witchcraft and hexes. All was well until Giles took over the family business and decided he was going to eradicate all supernatural beings. There were four werewolf packs in this town. Three vampire families and six covens. Giles, along with his son, single-handedly wiped out all, leaving only two werewolf packs, a vampire family and no coven. They were all forced into hiding until John Hunter was subdued by the vampires and converted. John's conversion weakened Giles's muscles and made him lie dormant. Those wolves are afraid that Giles will find and recruit you and have you continue his evil vendetta. They are also scared that your father might find you and use you to subdue the werewolves so that he can run the country," I explained to her in the best way I could.
Karen didn't take my explanation well, and her panic meter shot up to a thousand. I held her a bit and kissed her. She responded to my touch and my kisses. It was hard to believe that she could not feel the mate bond because her response was in tune with mine. Holding her felt amazing. I held her till she fell asleep. When she was fast asleep, I snuck out of bed, dressed up and headed out for my meeting with Alpha McCain.
Oscar. When I arrived at Alpha McCain's house, I noticed that the werewolves were taking a defensive stance. They must have thought I had come to fight. I had to let them know that I came in peace, yet they did not relax. I wouldn't blame them. I had killed one of them the night they attacked Karen. They had reasons to be scared and be on their guard. I was ushered to a waiting room, where I was served a drink. I didn't want to drink anything, but I knew I was being watched, so I took a sip."He will be joining you soon, Alpha Wilde," McCain's Beta told me in the most respectful way he could manage. The truth was, I had risked my life visiting. All they had to do was kill me, and my pack won't have an Alpha, and then they could take over. Unlike McCain, I had no mate and no offspring. It would be as easy as taking candy from a baby.I was nervous, but I didn't let it show. I was doing all this for a woman that I did not love, a woman I didn't intend to end up with, a woman I was going
Karen. I woke up in an empty bed and began to panic. Although Oscar had given me his word, I didn't know him well enough to trust him. For all I knew, he could be out there negotiating with the werewolves on how and when to hand me over. I didn't know what to do. The house was in the middle of nowhere. There was no way I could outrun the werewolves if I tried to escape. I had to hope that I could trust him. I went out of the room to find the kitchen. I hadn't eaten for over twenty-four hours, and all the anxiety and making out had gotten me quite hungry. When I got to the kitchen, I found a lady there. She introduced herself as Riley, and she seemed nice. Riley sat at the counter eating a sandwich. "You are up," she said with a smile, and I nodded. "Hungry?" She asked, and I said yes. She made a sub for me, and it was delicious. I left her and returned to Oscar's room to watch some television. I could not focus on what I was watching because I was worried about Oscar's intentions.
Karen. We returned to town the next day. We went straight to Oscar's residence. I was given a room on the first floor where the live-in workers slept. It was comfortable but not as luxurious as having an apartment all to myself, but it was much better than my old apartment. I also knew I was safe. My safety trumped luxury anytime. As I sat on the bed in my new room, I began to wish we were still in the house that was in the woods. Although I was hiding there after having a close-to-death experience, I liked that Oscar and I were in the same place. I had noticed his attitude changed towards me the moment we arrived at his house in the city. He was a bit formal and less caring. I didn't know if it was for show or if that was his new attitude towards me, but I decided not to let it bother me. I wondered how my life would be, looking onward.I remained in my room all day. Soon it was dinner time, and a young man came to call me."Miss Karen, you will be having dinner with the family tonigh
Karen. When we got to Oscar's room, all we did was watch comedy movies. Comedy seemed to be his favourite genre. For someone that was always serious, it seemed unbelievable. He was also a sort of comedian himself because Oscar mimicked his mother and Tabitha while we laughed. He wasn't even angry. With the way he had reacted towards his mother, it would have been fair to think he would be fuming in his room. Though he was irritated by his mother's actions, he wasn't angry with her. I needed to understand what his mother had meant by a mate. It was so weird and sounded out of this world to me. Usually, a man meets a girl, they fall in love, get married and begin to have children. In her case, she had chosen someone for him because he didn't seem like he was ready, but instead of a wife, she used the word mate. It sounded like something animals do. I knew he was a werewolf but did that qualify him as an animal? Maybe the supernatural kind. I was just too curious to let it pass, so I d
Karen. The day at his office felt weird. After the whole issue with the werewolves, I never imagined that I would be able to return there. Everything was normal except for the fact that I remained in the same space Oscar was. I had to sit in his office all day. Tabitha kept coming to check on Oscar. She looked contemptuous every time she saw me on the couch, minding my business. The woman was trying too damn hard to get Oscar's attention. He knew but wasn't willing to give her the attention she sought, and she refused to take the hint. "Is she going to sit here all day?" Tabitha finally asked.Oscar looked at me and then looked at her."Are you going to keep barging into my office all day?" He asked her, and she was silent. I bet she didn't see that coming. Maybe she thought Oscar was so hooked he would do anything for her. News flash, did she ever check the meaning of player? "I came for our usual meeting," she said to him, and he dropped the pen."Your services are no longer need
Oscar. I knew there was something weird about the cafe the instant we stepped in, but I didn't want to spook Karen. She felt at home in the place, and the workers seemed kind to her. When we finished our meal, I asked Karen to wait for me in the car, so I could see the owner. The supernatural aura of the cafe baffled me. The manager was quite hostile towards me, which indicated she knew what I was. I could deduce this simply because no human in her right mind would be hostile towards me. I was the richest man in the country. I owned all the big businesses in the city. That city owed its survival and its commerce to my pack, and I was single. Every human woman, except for Karen, threw themselves at me. But this particular lady was very hostile. When I got to the owner's office, I realised why. They were witches. Although the covens were eradicated by the Hunters, there were survivors, and all of them either skipped town or went into hiding. I had just walked into one of their hiding
Karen. Oscar seemed a bit off when he returned to the car. I was hoping he would share what was bothering him without asking, but as things were, I knew it was best I kept my curiosity to myself. He had that 'do not disturb' look on his face. "I was hoping to spend the evening at the park," he finally spoke, and I smiled. Maybe there wasn't any trouble. I might have just been reading meanings to his facial expression. Besides, I couldn't know how he felt. The park was empty when we got there. It was as if the people had got wind of our arrival and cleared out. It was a private park; therefore, I suspected Oscar might have booked ahead. I wonder why he would go through this much trouble for his plaything. I kept my remarks to myself, hoping not to spoil the mood. He was a big shot. Maybe he didn't want to be disturbed. "Have you ever spent time in a private park before?" he asked me as he took off his suit and dumped it in the backseat of the car. He did the same with his tie and un
Oscar. Walking in the park with Karen was amazing. She was a fun person to be around. It was amazing to see how carefree she was. Judging by her situation and her status, she still managed to look on the bright side. If only she knew the magnitude of the mess she was in, maybe she wouldn't be so carefree. We returned to my house after our long walk, and I felt a bit tired. It wasn't the walk that stressed me out. What stressed me out was the information I had gotten from Karen's aunt. To think that John Hunter was looking for his daughter was a huge deal. My uncle was already clear that he wouldn't allow me to bring the pack into this, and I had promised McCain that I would kill Karen if she realised his fears. I had also told Karen that I would only protect her for the duration of our contract. The way things were, Karen was certainly going to die. My decisions and actions were only postponing the day. I decided to take Karen to the club the next day after work. She looked amaz
