Twenty minutes later, Samantha arrived at Isabella’s mother’s house. The two best friends immediately hugged, and Samantha burst into tears in Isabella’s arms.

Isabella had no idea what had happened, only that Samantha was sobbing uncontrollably no matter how many times she asked. Gently, Isabella guided her into the bedroom, trying to calm her down.

“Sit down, and tell me—who made you cry like this?” Isabella asked, holding Samantha’s shoulders firmly.
