Chapter fifty-four: The showdown
Zander watched the smoke from the explosion with great satisfaction. His plan had worked and he was pleased that he didn't have to use anyone else to deal with the alpha's son. For his part, seeing the explosion and with the creature out of the picture, Mulligan gave the order. All the policemen formed a semicircle around where Zander was and began to move forward pointing at him. Seeing that he was surrounded, Zander signaled and the vampires posted in the trees began to descend while others inside the building behind him came out to face the intruders. Seeing that they were coming upon them, Mulligan ordered to open fire on them. The luckiest were the SWAT men, who had machine guns and could hit vampires in the head and heart. The day after his meeting with the detectives, Dan received a visit from Norma and Erick at his apartment. The reason: to talk about the attack on his uncle Christopher's house. The day after the confrontation where Brooke and several policemen died, Christopher went to them to tell them that the unknown creature had indeed saved him from the attack of the vampires and that he had woken up in Central Park hidden in some bushes. He told them that he did not know why he had saved him or why he had taken his computer.
