Chapter fifty-five: Transition

It has never been easy for a police detective to deliver bad news to a victim's family. In the case of Brooke Daniels's family, as was to be expected, the news of her death caused them great pain, although they always maintained the hope of having her back home.

Because of the way she had died, there wasn't much they could bury, but they still had to wait for it to be confirmed that the remains were hers. Perkins worked quickly with what she had and the family had to hold the funeral with an empty coffin.

In the police family there were also losses. The line of duty most of the time carries innumerable risks, some as unlikely as facing vampires. Most of the time when vampires attack they only seek to feed, and in the process some conversion of the victim occurs due to their venom. But in the case of the attack on the police, their intention was to kill, hence the considerable number of casualties and no conversion.
