Fifteen minutes before the auction party started and we were still out.

Alpha Johnson asked us—no, insisted— that Beta James and I head out to see his “new baby” before the party officially began. So we ended up in the parking lot wasting time while the man went on and on about his car like a kid bragging about a new toy.

“She’s got a twin-turbo V8,” he said proudly as he patted the car like it was his firstborn. Indeed, the rumors were true. The Alpha of Crimson Pack had a weird fascination with luxury cars that he would even trade his wife in its stead.

“Custom leather seats, all imported. Look at that finish… Pure obsidian black! She glides like a shadow. This one’s a real beauty, right?”

Beta James looked like he wanted to drop dead right there, and I wasn’t far behind. And yet, we pretended to actually enjoy every fucking word.

“No doubt. She’s definitely a beast. A real alpha’s ride,” I said as I gave a polite nod and forced a smile.
