Imani's POV

I watched his face and I said nothing.

Because what if I was wrong? What if I asked, and it turned out to be something simple — an old nickname, a business reference, something that made complete sense in the context of two brothers who had a complicated history? What if I ruined this — the candles, roses, the food he'd made with his own hands over something I'd googled on my phone?

So I kept it behind my teeth.

By the time we finished, I had almost convinced myself it could wait.

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    The Face Behind the Fall

Ingrid's POV Daddy's eyes didn't move from my face for a long moment. Then he blinked. And something in his face rearranged itself into something casual."Don't mind me," he said. He bent slowly and began picking up the larger pieces of glass. "I was bringing you the new batch I've been working on. The fig and cardamom blend — I've been fermenting it for three months, wanted you to taste it." He shook his head at himself. "I tripped, and the bottle slipped."I looked at my father, crouching on the floor, and I asked myself if he had really heard me. His face gave me nothing."Go back inside," he said, not looking up. "I'll get another bottle.""Don't worry about it. I'm leaving anyway."He looked up then. "So soon? Is this about Yara?""She's fine. I just need to get back."He pushed himself to his feet. "Alright. Drive carefully."I walked past him, and I did not breathe properly until I sat in my car.I dialled Roy's number again. "What was that noise?" His voice was immediate.

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    The Secret Isn’t Safe Anymore

Ingrid's POV I froze mid step.Imani was already crossing the lobby toward me. No coat, still in yesterday's clothes, the look of someone who had been inside so long they'd forgotten there was an outside. And she was smiling. The kind of smile that took over her whole face made her look like herself again."Where are you going? Didn't you come to see Yara?"I opened my mouth. My mind went somewhere very fast and came back with something. "Ahhh... yes, but I got a call. The vineyard. One of the fermentation tanks — the temperature is off, and if we lose this batch—""Now?" She looked genuinely confused. Then worried. The way Imani worried — immediately, fully, thinking about the problem and the solution at the same time. "Can't you see Yara first? Just five minutes? She's awake, Ingrid. She's talking, she's—""I'll come back tonight." The words came out sharper than I meant them to. "I promise." I pushed the gift bag into her arms before she could argue. "I got these for Yara. Tell he

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    The Hands At The Top Of The Stairs

Yara's POV But I couldn't.Because every time I tried to speak, I saw his face from that day. The way his eyes went cold.Mom came back to my side. She held my hand."Baby, I came home and found you at the bottom of the stairs. Can you tell me what happened?"I looked at Daddy. He was standing by the door. His hands were in his pockets. His face was soft. But his eyes. His eyes were not soft. His eyes were like a warning or a promise that I was going to be dealt with if I said anything. "I don't remember," I whispered.Mom's face fell. "You don't remember?"I shook my head. The doctor said something about trauma. About pressure. About not forcing me to remember.Daddy nodded. "He's right, baby. Yara will tell us when she's ready."Then he looked at me."And if someone really did come into our home and push our daughter, I will never forgive them. Never."He smiled, but his smile made me feel sick. The doctor held my hand. He told me I was brave. But I didn't feel brave.I felt like

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    She Woke Up to Him

Roy's POVI walked toward Yara's room. My footsteps steady. My face calm. The mask was always the first thing I put on.Imani was standing close to the door. Her eyes were wet.She saw me and ran.Her arms went around my neck. She buried her face in my chest.Imani was hugging me. Crying into my chest. Not the stiff and careful version of herself I'd felt this morning. This only means one thing—Yara hadn't said anything yet."She's awake, Roy. She's awake. Our baby girl is alive."I held her. Let my hand stroke her hair."I told you," I said. "I told you she was going to be okay."She pulled back. Tears were streaming down her face."No tears, baby." I wiped them with my thumbs. "Not today. Our Yara is alive. That's all that matters."She nodded. Smiled through the tears.Inside the room, Malcolm was leaning over Yara's bed. A nurse was adjusting something on the machines.Malcolm looked up. Saw me. His face was neutral."She's all set," he said to Imani. "Come say hi."Imani took my

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    She Opened Her Eyes

Roy's POVIngrid was pacing now. Back and forth. Back and forth. Her hands were shaking."We're finished," she said it again. Her voice cracked. "If Yara wakes up, she'll tell. She'll tell everything. Imani will know. Everyone will know."I crossed the room. Grabbed her arms. Stopped her."Hey, look at me."She did. Her eyes were wet."We're not finished," I said. "I won't let that happen. Never.""How? How can you stop it?"I pulled her into my chest. Held her there. She was trembling. My hands in her hair."Listen to me carefully." I spoke low into her hair. "Yara won't wake up. I'm going to make sure of that. Even if she does, I'm going to make sure Imani never believes her."She pulled back. Looked at my face. "You are going to make sure Yara never wakes up?" She paused. "What does that mean?"I didn't answer. I just looked at her.She knew what it meant. She was smart. That's why I love her. She knew exactly what I meant. Imani, on the other hand, doesn't know me like she thinks

  • I Am My Ex Husband’s Nemesis    The Betrayal Wore My Face

Roy looked up and saw me.His hand dropped. One step back. Clean and immediate.Ingrid's face rearranged itself — whatever smile it had been holding gone in an instant, replaced with the warm, tired concern she'd been wearing for two weeks."You're here," she said.I walked to them. "What's going on?""Nothing." Roy's voice was easy. "I just got here. I saw her from behind and thought she was you."I looked at my sister. Red vest. Hair pulled back."You thought she was me.""I'm tired, baby." He said it gently. "I haven't slept properly for weeks— I left you on the couch and went straight to the office. Yara's condition, the Vincenzo deal—" He shook his head. "My head is everywhere. You're identical twins, after all. I saw her from behind, and I just got confused for a second."Ingrid stepped in. "It's my fault. I was standing right outside with my back to the car park. He saw my silhouette and assumed. I should have been paying attention."I looked between them.It made sense. The w
