Mag-log inHarry smiled with pride. “Yes, Dad. I have a great plan.”
“All right, I’ll leave this up to you, and remember … don’t let anyone find out.” John warned his son in a serious tone.
“Dad, you don’t need to worry about this. I promise … no one will find out,” Harry smiled slyly.
“Be careful, Harry!” Lucy also warned her older brother.
The next morning, Harry began to devise a plan to take Nathan’s life.
Meanwhile, at a house that could be described as quite luxurious, Angela Jackson had just stepped out of the house after finishing her breakfast.
In the parking lot, her car was ready. But its gleaming appearance made Angela raise an eyebrow and call out, “Nathan.”
“Nathan.” Angela called again in a fairly loud voice.
Nathan, who had been in the garage taking care of some things, hurried out upon hearing his wife’s voice calling him.
“Yes, what is it, Angela?”
Angela put her hands on her hips and pointed toward her car, “What did you do to my car?”
“I washed it.”
“Who told you to wash it?”
“No one. I just-”
“Oh my gosh, Nathan. When are you going to stop doing all this? I could take it to a car wash. Why are you wasting your energy doing this?” Angela clicked her tongue in annoyance.
Nathan sighed, “Honey, I woke up earlier today, and since I’d already finished cooking your meal, I thought-”
“Damn it, Nathan. I really don’t like this.”
Nathan froze, confused.
“Instead of wasting your time doing things you shouldn’t be doing, why don’t you just look for a job? You … didn’t you promise you’d do something for me?”
Nathan replied immediately, “Angela, I-”
“Forget it, it’s no use talking to you. I don’t think you’ll ever understand.”
After saying that, Angela left Nathan, who could only stare blankly as his wife walked away.
The man could only shake his head.
Nathan hurried to freshen up and then headed to the park to do his usual work.
With each passing day, Nathan grew more and more excited because it meant the day when he could use all his assets, still frozen by the palace, was drawing near.
Besides, he could also appear in public without worrying about anything.
Thinking about how Angela Jackson had finally discovered his true identity made Nathan feel a little relieved.
At least Angela would know that he wasn’t a useless loser she couldn’t rely on.
However, before she could do any of that, she had to try to endure all the insults.
Elsewhere, specifically at the Jackson Group, Angela was surprised to find a stack of documents waiting to be reviewed when she arrived at her office.
“Ma’am, there are two proposals you need to review immediately,” Calys reminded her boss.
Angela nodded and immediately examined the folder containing the proposals.
Just as she was immersed in the documents, Calys entered the office again.
“What is it now, Calys?” Angela asked without looking up from the folder she was reading intently.
“H-here it is, Ma’am. There’s a bouquet of flowers for you.”
Angela immediately looked up and glanced at a large bouquet of beautifully arranged flowers. “Just put it down!”
“But this … there’s a special message I need to convey to you right away, Ma’am.”
Angela clenched her teeth, set down her pen, and glared at Calys, who could only grimace.
“Here … a note from the sender,” Calys handed Angela a pink envelope.
She didn’t need to open the envelope to know who had sent the beautiful flowers. Just from the choice of flowers alone, Angela knew immediately that the sender was Ben Walter.
Only that man knew her favorite type of flower. Her husband, Nathan, didn’t even know and had never asked her about it, so she was one hundred percent certain that the flowers were from Ben Walter.
“All right, go on. Don’t bother me again until lunchtime!”
Calys nodded in understanding.
Angela had no intention of opening the envelope containing the letter and chose to continue her work.
There were so many documents she had to review, scrutinize, and sign. She didn’t have time to deal with Ben Walter.
However, exactly 30 minutes before lunchtime began, the phone in her office rang.
Somewhat annoyed, Angela answered the call, “What is it, Calys? Don’t you know I don’t want to be disturbed?”
“Um … well, Ma’am. Mr. Nathan-”
Hearing her husband’s name mentioned, Angela’s irritation slowly faded, “In that case, let him in.”
“Uh, Ma’am. He’s already left.”
“What?”
“Well, Ma’am … Mr. Nathan came by earlier to bring you lunch. After that, he left right away. He said he didn’t want to disturb you.”
Angela’s heart instantly warmed. Her husband didn’t exactly have a career she could boast about. But when it came to thoughtfulness, no one could beat him.
The man didn’t give her expensive gifts like most men do, but he always showed her little gestures of affection that made her feel cared for.
She bit her lip, remembering the small gestures Nathan had shown her through simple acts like washing the car.
Ah, she knew Nathan meant well, but she was really annoyed because that sort of thing should only be done by someone whose job actually involves that.
“Fine, bring the lunch my husband packed to my office.”
“Okay, Ma’am.”
Angela ended the call and went back to the work she was almost finished with.
Calys knocked on the door before being allowed in and immediately placed the lunchbox Nathan had brought onto the table that usually served as Angela’s resting spot.
After Calys left, Angela immediately began opening the lunchbox and smiled happily.
Her husband always knew exactly what she liked. Perhaps that was also why she’d managed to keep her marriage with Nathan going.
Just as she was about to eat her lunch, her phone rang.
When she glanced at her phone and saw that the caller was her ex-boyfriend’s secretary, Angela ignored it completely.
But the phone kept ringing until it annoyed her so much that she finally, very reluctantly, answered it.
“Hello.”
“Hello, Miss Jackson. It’s me … North.”
“Yes. I know. What’s up?”
North winced at the sharp tone of the beautiful woman who was still his boss’s dream woman.
Cautiously, he asked, “Miss, have you … not yet read the message sent by Young Master Walter?”
Angela immediately recalled the beautiful bouquet of flowers that had also contained a message from Calys.
“I haven’t opened it yet. What’s the matter?”
“Oh, that, Miss. Well … the letter states that Young Master Walter intends to invite you to lunch.”
Angela sighed softly, “I can’t.”
“Hm, but … Young Master Walter said this is very important, Miss.”
“I’m sorry, I still can’t. Besides, I’m having lunch right now.” Angela wasn’t lying, she had just been about to eat her lunch had she not been interrupted by that call.
North licked his lips and continued, “Miss, I’m sorry to have to say this. But Young Master Walter said that if you … refuse his invitation, then … the secret project collaboration with your company could be canceled.”
Angela froze. “Secret project? What project? I’ve never felt like I had a project with Walter Company.”
“As for that … you can ask Young Master Walter directly.”
Angela bit her lip, looking so torn.
As if sensing Angela’s confusion, North deliberately said, “You’re expected at D’Break Restaurant at two o’clock, Miss.”
Angela closed her eyes, feeling annoyed.
With a stiff expression on his face, Arnold Reed replied, “Prime Minister. You really do love bringing up topics like this on the day of General Lee’s return, don’t you?”“Of course. I … have been looking forward to this for a long time,” Jefry replied, no longer hiding what he was thinking. Arnold laughed sarcastically. “Oh, of course. You two are indeed good friends.”“Very good. Unfortunately … I wasn’t there when he was accused of such cruelty. But … well, that’s in the past, and I won’t bring it up, even though I deeply regret not being able to help him back then. But … this time, I’m here for him,” Jefry said.Arnold clenched his fist but then forced himself to smile, “Ah, I see. And … regarding that position you mentioned ….”Jefry, who had initially looked relaxed, now grew serious. He watched Arnold’s expression as he discussed it and now felt that the man’s expression had changed.Unfortunately, he couldn’t gauge what the man was actually feeling or thinking.“I’ll step do
“That means … General Reed has failed to carry out his plan,” Zach said with such confidence. Steven raised an eyebrow, looking at Zach suspiciously. “How can you say that?”Zach shrugged. “I told you I know him better.”Steven was about to open his mouth to argue, but Zach quickly beat him to it, saying, “We’ll see! Whether what I’m saying is true or not.”After saying that, Zach walked casually, whistling, toward the front. Steven frowned but still followed his friend, walking right behind him. Meanwhile, Liam Slater rested his head in his lounge. Daniel, the head of the guards, remained by his side, standing loyally.“Any news from General Reed, Daniel?”“General Reed hasn’t sent any message yet, Your Majesty,” Daniel replied.Liam, who had been keeping his eyes closed, now opened them. “Help me get ready!”Daniel nodded and immediately ordered several servants to help the king dress in his royal robes. An order was also given to the king’s wife, who was expected to be present
“General, I’ve noticed some suspicious activity on General Reed’s part.”Steven’s response put Nathan on slight alert. “I don’t know for sure what he’s planning, but I think he’s up to no good, General,” Steven added. Nathan sighed softly and replied immediately, “Thank you for warning me. But don’t worry, Steven. Everything will be fine.”Steven Breece tried to calm himself down and finally ended the call. Henry Corwell, who was in the same car as Nathaniel Lee, asked, “How about it, General?”Nathan smiled at his trusted aide, “Just as you suspected, Henry.”Henry nodded in understanding, “In that case, should we switch to the backup plan right away, General?”“Yes.”After the war general gave such a firm answer, Henry immediately ordered the driver to turn on the blue taillights and quickly turn in another direction. The soldiers who saw the signal from the car carrying Nathaniel Lee immediately understood what they were supposed to do.They quickly scattered in various direct
Angela Jackson didn’t close the door right away after Nathan left. She stood in the doorway for a few seconds, as if she could still feel his presence in the room, which now felt emptier. Then, without really thinking twice, she stepped outside. The black car was already waiting, its door open. Standing beside it, he was now fully in duty mode. His military uniform looked more imposing in the morning light, complete with insignia and a demeanor that was no longer as relaxed as it had been inside the house.Angela watched silently.Nathan paused briefly before getting into the car, as if checking something. For a moment, he glanced toward the house more precisely, toward Angela. Their gazes met for a split second, long enough to convey something that couldn’t be spoken. Then the war general got into the car.The door closed neatly. The driver in front immediately got ready, while Henry moved quickly to the other side of the vehicle. One by one, other vehicles began to move. From behin
Angela took a slow breath after Nathan’s words hung in the air. She didn’t respond right away. “I’m just making sure everything’s ready,” she said.“You always make sure everything’s ready,” Nathaniel replied. “But usually you say something too.”Angela fell silent before finally saying, “This time is different.”Nathaniel looked at her more seriously. “Because I’m going back to the palace?”Angela didn’t answer right away, but her expression was clear enough.Nathaniel stepped closer. “Angela.”The woman lifted her gaze. For the first time since earlier, her composure seemed slightly cracked.“That place isn’t just full of rules,” she said softly. “It’s also full of people who … don’t want you there.”Nathaniel didn’t immediately object.“They once tried to kill you,” Angela continued, her voice still controlled, but clearly deeper.Nathaniel nodded slightly, “I know.”“And now you’re going back there, as if everything is fine,” Angela added.“I never thought everything was fine,” Na
The footsteps of several soldiers could be heard coming from the long hallway outside Zach’s room. The sound of their boots was rhythmic, typical of a platoon just finishing their shift. Steven, who was still leaning against the wall, turned his head slightly, while Zach remained standing by the window.Three soldiers passed by, then one of them slowed down. He glanced at Steven, as if checking something. A few seconds later, they stopped.“Excuse me,” the soldier said, his tone polite yet full of curiosity. “Lieutenant Breece.”Steven gave a brief nod. “Yes.”The other two soldiers immediately exchanged glances, then looked back at Steven with expressions almost identical to Zach’s earlier curiosity.Zach, standing near the window, turned his head slightly, the corners of his mouth curving upward. He didn’t say anything, but he was clearly enjoying the situation.“What’s it like?” the second soldier asked without hesitation. “I mean … living outside the palace, Lieutenant?”Zach chuc
