Ashley's POV

"A message for…" the messenger started, but his voice was cut off like someone ripped out his tongue. He looked over at David, who still lay on the ground, bound hands behind him. I saw David's rapid shake of his head, a silent order to keep quiet. My stomach twisting—what was he hiding?

"Spit it out, boy!" Elder Thamon bellowed, his loud voice in the council hall, his own patience clearly exhausted.

The envoy simply stood there, sweat dripping from his forehead, numb as a deer caught in the headlights. His eyes never wavered from David, as if begging for a lifeline. Jayden was elsewhere, staring into space, his face vacant. Either he didn't care or was too high to bother. The Jayden I knew would've gone wild if he saw his beta treated this way, bound and on his knees like some sort of common criminal.

"My lord, let me handle it," David said, his voice steady as the ropes bit into his wrists. It hurt to see him like this, the pack beta reduced to this because of Ella's ac

Ella's POVI left the car I had driven into the cave, slipping into another one that was parked along the gravel path. My fingers gripped the steering wheel firmly, and the engine purred to life. But a hand pressed against the window. "Spend the night here," father said, his face grim and a bit troubled. I shook my head. "I can't. I have to get back to Jayden and begin..." I let my lips curl in a smile as I looked away from him, "... fucking him." I saw him crack for the first time that night, his eyes flashing with something raw, a sort of displeasure that was far from fatherly. I had seen it before and I knew that face perfectly. It wasn't the fact that his daughter was about to fuck her way to power that troubled him, no. It was the thought that I was to deny him sex. To give it to Jayden, albeit for the goal of snatching power from him. This realization of his selfishness, as always, twisted my gut. And for just a fleeting moment, I wished that somehow I had known my mother.

Jayden's POVThe growl I let out still lingered in the air as the High Elder stumbled on a seat nearby, his composure severely fractured. I watched his finger twitch against the chair's arms, the pride of his old wolf clearly bruised without measure. From the corner of my eye, I caught Ashley's glance. Her hood shifted just for a second as she stole a glance at me. It was just enough for her to see my firm nod. A silent permission for her to leave. Quicky nodding back in understanding, she turned and slipped toward the door in a swift and precise movement. With a muted click, the door was pulled shut, and she vanished into the shadows beyond. "You... you shouldn't have ordered me in such a manner, not before that stranger," the high elder mentioned, finally finding his tongue. "Who was that anyways?"I gave no immediate reply to this, instead I sunk my head deeper into the pillows as I let myself deliberately relax. I knew how uneasy he felt at that moment, and I was greatly please

Ashley's POV"How did the other healers not ask for your face to be revealed?" Jayden asked, sitting up a little. I gave no reply to this, my fingers only lingering on the monitor. I avoided his eyes though I felt it boring into me. "Ashley?" I still said nothing, instead I turned back slowly and moved towards him. Standing by his bedside, I was close enough to touch him, but I still kept my eyes away from his. "You could be–" "David's been running around... on my request," I interrupted, the words tumbling out. "What? How?" I inhaled deeply. "He still happen to have loyalists around, so they help him with the information he needs. But no one knows our location. That's why he had to leave–" Jayden grip clamped around my wrist, firm and almost fierce, and this cut me short. My head whipped around in complete shock and my eyes colliding with his. The eyes I had desperately tried to avoid. "Why?" he growled. I could feel the overpowering presence of his alpha wolf, and it strong

  • I Am The Alpha's Rejected Mate    Chapter 218

Ella's POVMy room swallowed me whole the moment I stepped in, it's quiet pulling me tighter than the silence of the hall ever did. My eyes flicked towards the tall mirror at the far end of the room, my steps carrying me there even before I realised it. Staring at my reflection, my hand drifted slowly downwards and stopping at my stomach. This was my secret. Mine alone. No one would know, for now. I tore my gaze away from the mirror and turned sharply toward the bed. My cells phone rested perfectly on the sheets like it had been waiting for me. Snatching it up, I double tapped on the screen, noting an encrypted message box. I knew who sent it, and after decoding the message with special access keys, bold letters stared at my face:'Strange healer on hood granted private access to the Alpha.'"Strange healer?" I muttered to myself, stopping for a while to ponder about it. Perhaps it was a healer that specialized on burns and wolf recovery. Damn, it could be anybody. That shouldn't

Ella's POVMy eyes widened so much that I felt they might fall out, and my breath was simply stuck in my throat. "Y–you... framed her death?" I stammered, my voice breaking into a whisper and my heart pounding so violently that I swore they all could hear it. My chest raged with fire. "All of this.. just to bring me into the picture?" Silence stretched thick after my question for a while, until it broke under father's voice. "Yes we did," he said with a calmness that seemed to burn my ears. "You were needed in the play, Ella–" "Why?" I interrupted, almost getting to my feet and I sharply leaned towards him. "Why didn't you use her for your plans, huh? Jayden loved her anyways." "Come of this Ella," father replied, his eyebrows furrowed. I knew I had gone a bit far, but I simply didn't care. "I needed you to play, and you know why. We wanted the initial desire of Jayden to be the purest. His grief needed to be raw and untamed, his yearning for comfort after losing Daisy and her ch

  • I Am The Alpha's Rejected Mate    Chapter 216

Jayden's POVThe healer stiffened as I touched her, and then, slowly, she took two steps backwards. Her hand slipped out of mine slowly, she she turned around, the hood she wore still shielding her face once more. My wolf grew restless at this and it snarled. "Ashley?" I called, almost in a prayer. No answer, not even a flinch from her. Instead, she moved forward, got closer to the door as if she meant to leave like the other healers. The rage within me grew beyond my control, the power from my wolf ripping through me like a wildfire. It was a possessive fury that simply let no room for logic of any sort. Without thinking, I moved. A gutteral growl tore from my throat as I sped, the medical tubes fixed on me snapping and the monitor wailing. I felt sharp pains flaring across my body as I tore free of all the medical assistance. My wolf propelled me forward, and in a single dash, I collided with her.We both fell hard against the cold floor of the hospital room, the hood she wore
