The instant it lunged at me, I stumbled back and slammed my foot against the door.
The heavy door crashed into its face and knocked it backward.
I did not waste the opportunity.
I rushed inside with the piece of broken glass in my hand.
The room was too cramped for a proper fight.
Every movement felt trapped between the walls.
Worse, if the zombie escaped, its growling could attract others.
I still knew almost nothing about them.
Nobody did.
Maybe they communicated with each other.
Maybe they hunted in groups.
The only confirmed thing was this:
Do not get bitten.
The zombie came at me again.
I lifted the glass shard, aiming for its neck, but before I could strike, its hands slammed into me.
Its body felt heavier than it should have been, dead weight pressing down on my shoulders as it tried to pin me in place.
I gritted my teeth and shoved its arms away before driving my foot into its stomach.
The zombie crashed into a pile of broken screens.
I rushed forward and tightened my grip around the shard.
For a brief moment, rage drowned everything else.
Every memory of what people had done to me burned through my head.
Then I stabbed it.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The zombie collapsed, and I pinned it beneath me, stabbing again and again.
But it refused to stay down.
Its body kept twitching.
Its arms kept moving and trying to reach me.
It was still trying to get up.
Then it hit me.
The head.
I needed to hit him in the head.
I tried to strike higher, but suddenly its teeth snapped inches from my arm.
Fear surged through me.
I recoiled instantly, scrambling backward across the floor while my pulse hammered in my ears.
The zombie stood upright and attacked again.
I rolled aside at the last second.
The room was so small that I nearly slammed into the wall.
My hand struck a stool beside me, and without thinking, I grabbed it and swung it at the zombie.
The impact sent it crashing sideways.
I smashed the stool against the floor until it splintered apart, leaving only a broken wooden leg in my grip.
Then I charged with full determination.
“AHHHHHHH!” A scream tore from my throat as I drove the wood into its skull.
The sound that followed made my stomach twist.
Its head cracked apart like a walnut under pressure.
The wooden piece punched through the front of its skull and burst out the back.
The zombie finally went still.
I remained frozen above it, clutching the bloodstained wood with shaking hands while forcing myself to breathe.
The wooden stake had not even been sharp.
But it had gone through easily because the body beneath me was already rotting.
I slowly stepped back, and my eyes dropped to the keys hanging from his pocket.
I reached over and grabbed them.
There were too many on the ring, all clinking against each other as I shoved them into my pocket.
I glanced around the room and noticed a photograph lying near him. It must have fallen from his pocket during the struggle.
I leaned over and picked it up.
The second I saw it, my breath caught. Tears burned behind my eyes.
He had a family.
Three children stared back at me from the picture.
A young boy, probably 19, and a girl close to his age, and a little girl tucked into their father’s side.
They were sitting together in a garden.
His arms were wrapped around the children while his wife sat beside them, smiling softly with a basket of fruit in her lap.
The sight shattered me.
What happened to them?
My gaze snapped back to him. He was still lying there, discarded like his life had meant nothing.
I closed my eyes as a tear slipped down my cheek.
Somewhere along the way, we had forgotten how horrifying all of this really was.
People were dying every day.
Some had even been forced to kill the people they loved after they turned into monsters.
I drew in a breath, wiped my eyes, and slipped the photograph into my pocket.
Taking a deep breath, I kicked the door open again.
If another zombie had been standing outside, at least the door would hit it first.
But there was no one there.
I stepped out and looked toward the bus.
Every alpha inside was staring straight at me.
I could not tell if they were glad I had found the keys or disappointed that I was still alive.
Ignoring them, I walked toward the gate and pulled it open.
The loud sound echoed through the area, and almost immediately, I heard movement from the direction we had come from.
My stomach tightened.
Several zombies were stumbling out from behind the woods, and more were gathering on the roads of the pack we were about to enter.
I turned and hurried toward the bus, but the second I grabbed the handle, my chest sank.
The door would not open.
For a moment, I just stood there, staring at it.
It felt painfully familiar.
Then Ace walked over to the window and knocked on the glass to get my attention.
When I looked up, he raised his middle finger at me.
“Fuck you,” he mouthed.
A second later, the engine started.
The bus pulled away while I stood there watching it leave me behind with the approaching zombies.
Miguel:"What the fuck have you done?" I yelled at her again. She stood there, staring down at the man who was trying to fight off the zombies, but there was no point anymore. She had brutally and callously kicked my family member off the rooftop.Sure, I hated Nathan. Sure, I hated Welch. But I would never want something so unjust to happen. I would never kill someone without doing my own research.I pulled out my gun and pressed it against her temple. She looked at me, and I realized there was insanity in her eyes at that moment."Fallon."A soft whisper from behind us pulled us out of our thoughts.Ali immediately rushed to Priya and untied her.Priya struggled to her feet, but her face darkened the moment she looked at the woman I was pointing my gun at."Fallon," she called again.I frowned. Her name was Fallon?Fallon turned toward Priya, and once again, I saw the humanity return to her eyes. Concern spread across her face."Are you okay?" Fallon asked.Priya nodded before compl
Fallon:As he pulled the trigger, I watched his smirk disappear as quickly as it had formed. It was the moment he realized there was a reason I had been facing him so confidently. The gun was empty.I smiled, shaking my head in amusement.Welsh pulled the gun back to inspect it before trying to shoot me again and again. Nothing happened."I took the bullets out the minute the minute we entered the garage," I said, smiling softly. His hand started to shake as he continued pointing the empty gun at me."Wait, what the fuck is even going on here?" Miguel yelled, trying to get between us.At that moment, I was so charged with fury that I hadn't even realized my shirt was open.I was standing there with my abs exposed and only a deep-neckline bra covering my chest."What's going on here is that this fucker thought he could abduct the two of us, rape me, and kill Priya's baby."As I spoke, I watched Miguel's eyes widen. It didn't look like he liked these alphas. He didn't seem to react the
Miguel:We ran for so long that I completely lost track of where we were. All I could hear was the sound of my own heavy breathing and Ali running beside me.Eventually, we reached what looked like a run-down village.Only two houses stood there, separated by a considerable distance and a lonely shop.At that point, I honestly had no idea whether I was even running in the right direction anymore."Mylie is gone," Ali said as he spotted a shop in the distance. We started running toward it, but we quickly came to a halt when zombies began emerging from isolated buildings around us.This place was completely overrun.I could not tell if there was a safe way through anymore."What are we going to do now? We lost her."Taking deep, heavy breaths, I hunched over and placed my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath before looking around."What the fuck? We've come so far," I muttered, growling at myself for leaving Cage behind when I could have simply caught up with him."Why was she h
Fallon:I almost laughed at his audacity. He had no technique and no strategy. He was relying entirely on his anger, and anger could make anyone weak. His fist came flying toward my face. I ducked underneath it, grabbed his forearm, and slammed my elbow into his ribs. Before he could recover, I stomped on his foot and shoved him backward. He actually stumbled and fell. The look on his face was priceless. It was the expression of a man realizing that the fight in his head was very different from the one actually happening."You think you're stronger than me?" he snarled."No," I replied, circling him. "I think you're just slower."My comment made his face darken."How the fuck are you so cocky now?" he growled. Before he could land a punch on me, I dodged, causing him to lose his balance and fall again. He roared and released more of his wolf. The pressure rolled across the rooftop and probably was sensed by zombies too.Behind him, Priya remained unconscious where she was tied near th
Fallon:The moment he heard me, he started untying my legs. After that, he pulled me down until I was lying flat on my back.I watched him silently. I did not stop him. I mean, I had given him my consent. Then he parted my legs wide, kneeling between them and hastily unbuckling his pants. The excitement in his eyes was unmistakable. That was when it came back to me.the forgotten memories, the flashbacks of past.Flashback:I could literally hear my heart pounding in my head as I hid behind the pantry door, crouching beneath a large shelf and trying to stay as unnoticed as possible.I was shaking with fear. My chest rose and fell rapidly as I struggled to catch my breath."Fallon, come on. You can't hide from me all day. You know we're alone in the mansion for the entire day, right?" I heard him chuckle while searching for me, and I covered my mouth with both hands, trying to keep myself silent. And just about half an hour ago, Welsh had arrived at the mansion unannounced. There was n
Miguel:Ali and I were walking with Angelica and Bobby, hoping to reach the shelter before we ran into another zombie. At this point, we were exhausted.Just a day ago, we had gotten into a huge fight after their mother passed away. Then we found a place to crash, only for the next day to turn out even worse. The entire front of the building had been swarmed with zombies. They put so much pressure on the glass windows that they eventually shattered. We barely escaped. There were moments when I wondered if I had been bitten somewhere because of how crowded everything had become. After that, we ran into another group of zombies. At this point, it did not seem like the world was going to get any better.Everything was happening too fast.We continued forward when strange noises echoed from a nearby street, and my first thought was that we were about to get into another fight. The problem was that we did not even have any ammunition left.We had used all of it.Then there was Freya’s bag,
Delilah:My eyes searched Nathan's face for answers, and he looked back at me with the same sense of urgency. His urgency, however, was to get out of this conversation."Are we seriously having this conversation right here, right now?" he asked, jabbing a finger at the ground beneath us as if to re
Delilah:I didn't feel guilty at all about taking my sister's husband. So what if he was her mate? She didn't deserve him.I had been furious when I found out Fallon was marrying an Alpha. She was such a bitch.Out of everyone, how the fuck did she get to marry an Alpha? It felt horribly unfair.Th
Nathan:Post Apocalypse:She pushed me away dramatically and folded her arms across her chest again.I walked over and wrapped an arm around her shoulders."My entire family likes you. Hell, they like you more than they like her."I wasn’t lying though."I guess this is finally the sign I've been w
Nathan:Post apocalypse:My life had gone completely to shit.A man who tries to ride two boats always ends up drowning. That was exactly what was happening to me.On one side was my perfect wife.A woman I could control however I wanted. She was beautiful too, easy on the eyes to the point that wh
