My mind went completely blank.

My stepmother Brie Upton's face had gone pale as she instinctively pulled her hand back. "Vance, what are you talking about?"

My fiance, Vance Topp, gazed at her, his eyes full of longing and love. "We can't let that old bastard find out about the baby you're carrying. Once the wedding is over, I'll take you away. That idiot Tiana is still living in her own little fantasy, thinking I love her…"

The ceramic ladle in my hand dropped to the floor and shattered into pieces.

My dad, Mike Kemp, flushed red with fury, his breathing coming hard and fast.

The housekeeper, Marie Litt, lowered her head, pretending she hadn't heard a thing.

Meanwhile, Brie threw herself at Dad's feet and sobbed. "Honey, please believe me. I have nothing to do with him."

Before Dad could answer, Vance chimed in. "Hey, your man is here. My darling, how about I make it up to you in the car tonight? You said it still wasn't exciting enough at the hotel last night."

The sharp, metallic taste of blood flooded my throat.

So while I was busy trying on my wedding dress, finalizing the invitations, and writing my vows, these two were busy screwing around and plotting how to snatch everything that belonged to me.

Dad suddenly slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet, his expression livid as he grabbed Vance by the collar. "Vance! You son of a bitch, how dare you make a move on my woman!"

After having taken several punches to the face, Vance suddenly keeled over, grabbing his stomach as his body convulsed.

Marie screamed, "It's food poisoning! Call an ambulance now!"

The dining room erupted into chaos, while Brie kept her distance with a forced smile on her face.

She said, "Tiana, Vance was hallucinating because of the mushrooms. Don't take anything he says seriously."

I let out a cold laugh, my eyes sweeping over the loose waist of her dress. Brie had always been into tight, sexy dresses that showed off her figure. So why had she suddenly stopped wearing them over the past few days?

She must have been worried about hurting the baby.

Before the ambulance arrived, Vance suddenly opened his eyes. Just like he had every day we'd been together, he looked at me with deep affection.

"Brie, don't worry. I won't sleep with her even on our wedding night. I promised you'd always be the only woman in my life."

A chill ran through my entire body.

I hadn't just misjudged him. I had been totally blind.
