I took advantage of the situation and walked out, it was already seeming like he didn't want me to eavesdrop on his phone call. Besides, my heart was beating so fast, he was already growing impatient and I wasn't certain of what action to take next. I needed my phone to at least know if I had close friends. On getting to the entrance into the Alpha's building, I bumped into someone who was about to walk in. A guard was carrying his luggage behind him. “Hello dear,” he said, holding my hands while staring into my eyes. I wasn't certain how to react; I didn't know who he was or his relationship with me. My heartbeat started beating faster than ever. He seemed important, and with any wrong word from me, I could get into trouble. “You should look where you are going next time, I'm only forgiving this because of how gorgeous you look,” he said, smiling. I chuckled, extracting my hand from his grip. His gaze remained on me for a while, tensing me up. I tried to move away but he blocked my path. “I didn't know the gorgeous was mute,” he said. “I'm not mute,” I replied, slightly shaking my head sideways. “Wow, what a sweet voice you have there. Well, I'm Jace, Alpha Scott’s younger and only brother…” That explained it all, we've never met before. Perhaps he hasn't been in town in years. I was about to respond when I felt the presence of Alpha Scott. I felt drawn to something closer, and that felt strange. I quickly turned as my eyes widened in shock. He walked towards us and threw his arms over his brother. “When I saw your call, I got scared that something was wrong.” Alpha Scott said while extracting himself from the hug. “Alpha George is dead and I'm here to …..” he threw his gaze at me, “..celebrate.” “I see you've met Louisa, My P.A.” Alpha Scott stated. I furrowed my eyebrows but I knew I had to play along. “P.A?” he repeated, then scoffed. “Alright,” he looked at me, “It was nice meeting you, Louisa.” He then moved in with Alpha Scott. I stepped outside, feeling the cool breeze all over me. It should feel relaxing but my heart was pounding. I had no means of finding his mother who might be dead anyway. I knew I had to get out of here and I had to be fast about it. My gaze drifted to the entrance gate, there were at least ten men stationed there. Hell no! I needed a good escape plan. I was still in thought when someone tapped me from behind, I quickly turned and my breath hitched, seeing Alpha Scott. He was already back here. “You must have heard enough fresh air,” he said. “Did you come with my phone?” I asked. He pulled his hands into his leather jacket and brought out a phone, handing it to me. “I will be going out for an important meeting, the moment I return, I expect answers from you.” he paused and grabbed my hands, glaring at me. “For your sake, I hope you are not just stalling,” “I'm not, ok,” I said, extracting myself from his grip. Without another word, he walked into his jeep and drove out. I took a deep breath and exhaled like it was over even when I knew it wasn't. I quickly put my phone into my trouser pocket and walked back inside. But on my way to my room, I saw Jace coming out of his. The moment he saw me, he began staring at me. It felt strange, he didn't look away and I wasn't comfortable. I focused my gaze ahead and continued moving. The moment I tried walking past him, he held my hands and dragged me back. “Louisa, I want to show you something,” Jace called. My heart skipped a beat, there was something shady about him I couldn't pinpoint. “Come on,” he added, dragging me into his room like I didn't have a say. My eyebrows furrowed but there was nothing I could do about it. The moment the door shut behind us, my body began shaking. “You said you wanted to show me something,” I reminded him. “Yeah, I did.” He said, moving towards a bag near the nightstand. He unzipped it and began searching for something. After a while, he turned back, holding a photograph in his hand. “I wanted to show you this,” he said, extending the picture to me. My fingers were trembling as I took it. I opened my mouth in shock the moment my gaze drifted to the photograph. It was a photo of me and Jace, looking intimate. “When I was introducing myself to you, I was only flirting with you seeing how shocked you looked. I mean, it's not every day you come back home to see the girl who ran away from you, living in your own house,” he scoffed and chuckled. “But then again,” he continued, “You can't break my heart and find out that I'm the Alpha’s brother and still react the way you did.” He paused and stared at me, “Unless something is wrong.” I took a step back, not knowing what to say. At least now I could understand the reason why he stared at me the way he did. Regardless, I couldn't still let anyone know I was without my memory. “I thought you've moved on and did not want to talk about it,” I said, breathing so fast. “Why won't I want to talk about it? When all you did was break up with me after saying your mission in Leatherhead Pack was soon to be over,” he said, folding his hands across his chest. In as much as I couldn't remember, I saw clearly in his eyes that he was hurt. But none of it was making sense to me; I was Alpha Scott’s rejected fated mate, and yet I was dating his younger brother without knowing who he was. “What were you even doing in the Leatherhead Pack since you are Alpha's Scott's brother?” I was trying to deviate a bit. “I had my own plans, in case my brother's plan failed but that's not the point.” He said, walking towards me. “So what's your point?” I asked, moving backwards. “You don't seem to remember.”Louisa Everything felt wrong and right at the same time. The room, the air, my body, even my own heartbeat sounded unfamiliar in my ears.I was back. After months of feeling trapped in a horizon of my own body, I was finally free. The memories were still rushing through me in fragments. Dying, darkness, voices, even dreams that had felt too real to be dreams.Weeks and months of nothingness. And now I was standing here again happily but terrified. My fingers trembled against my throat where Jace's dagger had left a thin burning line. While my gaze was across the room, staring at Agnes who stood like a living storm, golden eyes blazing while magic crackled invisibly around her.One wrong word, one wrong movement and everyone here would die. I couldn't let that happen, I had to try to reach her."Agnes..." My voice came out hoarse and her attention snapped toward me instantly, the fury in her eyes softening slightly.I swallowed. "Please." The single word felt pitiful against the tensi
Scott Her lashes fluttered. For a second I thought my mind was playing tricks on me but then her eyes cracked open, glassy and unfocused. She blinked once, twice, her gaze settling first on Jace.“Jace…” Her voice was uncertain. Then her head tilted slightly, her pupils dragging toward me. “Alpha… Scott?”Something in my chest uncoiled all at once. The corners of my mouth lifted, almost against my will, and the weight I’d been carrying for weeks eased just enough for me to breathe.“Welcome back, Louisa,” I said softly.Jace steadied her as she pushed herself upright, her movements shaky, her confusion clear. Her fingers dug into his sleeve like she was clinging to the one thing familiar.I gave Ayana a short nod. She understood instantly. Raising one trembling hand, she whispered an incantation. Power spilled through the air, thick and suffocating, and the casket slammed shut with a deep, final thud. The noise made Jace snap his head up. He lunged toward it, fury and desperation bla
ScottHer smirk didn’t falter even as my fingers pressed tighter against her throat. Slowly, deliberately, she slipped a hand into her pocket. For a moment, I thought she might pull a blade, but instead she drew out a folded paper, old and creased at the edges.“Here,” she rasped.I hesitated, then released her with a shove. My hand snatched the paper from her grasp. The rough texture brushed against my fingertips as I unfolded it. Symbols spiraled across the page, twisted lines, unfamiliar letters, markings that made my head ache just staring at them.“What is this?” I growled.“The spell,” she replied smoothly, rubbing her throat where my grip had been.I turned, shoving the paper into George’s hands. At once, Louisa’s guards lowered their weapons. A ripple of movement followed, my guards lowering theirs reluctantly, eyes still sharp with suspicion. Ayana flicked her wrists, and the glow pinning Jace to the wall sputtered out. He crashed to the floor, coughing, his hand instinctivel
Scott The sharp blare of a horn cut through the air, jolting every nerve in me. I flicked a quick wink at the nearest guard, and he hurried toward the door. Before he could even report back, my mother rushed in, her silk gown brushing against the floor as she stormed into the sitting room, her voice shrill.“Why is the Leatherhead Pack surrounding our home?”I froze, my eyes snapping to Jace. My gut twisted with dread, already knowing the answer.George’s voice sliced the silence. “You said she was coming in a taxi, Jace.”Jace’s lips twitched. “I lied.”Our Mother turned on him immediately, confusion etched across her face. “Jace, you didn’t travel like they said… Well, that’s by the way. What is going on?”Jace took one measured step back, his hands raised as if that would calm the fire building in me. “Agnes is just taking caution. She means no harm…. No one has to die today.”I couldn't believe what I was hearing but I knew I had to do something. My chest rose, my voice bellowing
Scott Jace’s boots clicked against the marble as he strode toward us, his posture unnervingly composed. His eyes swept the room once, then settled on me.“The witch habitating Louisa’s body,” he said calmly, almost too calmly, “is Agnes Hales.”My body stiffened, the name slamming into me like a blade to the gut. My eyes narrowed. “What?”Ayana gasped, “Agnes Hales… one of the three witches who returned for the destruction of your family.”Jace’s lips curved into something dangerously close to a smile. “Not anymore. I think she’s had a change of heart.”My stomach twisted. I stepped closer, searching his face for the brother I knew, but all I found was someone different. Jace wasn't the one to be easily fooled.“You sound bewitched, brother.” I voiced out.He closed the distance between us, his eyes boring into mine, his voice steady and unyielding. “I’m not bewitched, brother.”George scoffed. “Agnes Hales was the regent of the coven your grandfather butchered. Do you really think a
Scott The sitting room was suffocating, every second louder than the last. My fists curled tight, knuckles aching as I slammed my palm against the arm of the couch.“You have to find them!” I roared, my voice rattling through the walls.Ayana flinched but quickly dropped to her knees, her fingers grazing the floor as she whispered incantations, sparks of silver light flickering between her hands. Her forehead beaded with sweat, her lips moving faster, but after a long moment she exhaled sharply and the glow faded.“I… I can’t,” she stammered, lifting her eyes to me.“Can’t?” I stepped toward her, towering over her, fury burning in my chest. “Then do it again! I don’t care what it will cost … just do it again!!!”She stood and walked to George. Her hand shook as she reached for George’s. He gave her a quick, nervous nod, their fingers entwining as if he could lend her strength. Together they closed their eyes, their voices blending in low, trembling chants. For a heartbeat, hope clawe
Louisa/Agnes Jace’s eyes flicked from the glowing screen back to me. Something shifted in him, his shoulders tightened, his jaw hardened. Then, without warning, he stood.“I don’t know why my instincts are asking me to protect you,” he said, his voice low, almost breaking. “That I shouldn’t let th
Scott Louisa still hadn’t returned. The house felt hollow without her, why would she even leave without saying a word? Was she that heart broken?I paced my room, boots grinding against the floorboards, already dressed in a clean shirt and jacket though I’d barely slept. My hands wouldn’t stay sti
