Louisa staying alive could ruin everything for me especially now that the council members of Leatherhead Pack are searching for her. If she gets caught, everything could be linked back to me and I couldn't let that happen. Regardless, I couldn't let her know that I had no intention of letting her live for a long time. Not now that I'm aware that my mother is still alive. “Fine, we will find my mother and you will get far away from the Silvermoon Pack! I don't want to ever see you here again.” “I promise, you will never hear from me. But don't you think you owe me an apology?” She asked, gazing at me. An apology! This is ridiculous. I would never apologise to her. It was already bad enough to be cursed to be fated to be with a wolf-less girl, now she wants to control me. Hell no! “That's never going to happen, so get over it!” I smirked. I must admit, there was something different about her; I couldn't pinpoint it, but I sensed it. ***** Five days later, I clenched my fist and began pacing around my room, feeling so agitated. All she has been doing is eating and sleeping! Of course, she thinks I'm a fool, and that's the reason she was stalling. I smashed my hands on my wooden table and splashed off the items on it to the floor. Damn it! “Calm down,” my wolf, Jean, whispered to me. “I can't!” I snarled. I gritted my teeth, trying to contain my anger but I couldn't. My gaze drifted to the floor, which was littered with the items from my table; I picked up my gun and slid it into my leather jacket. I needed to remind her that she wasn't supposed to feel too comfortable. But when I opened my door to storm out, I was astonished to see someone about to knock. “What the hell are you doing here? Mia” I asked. “You've not been picking up your calls,” she replied, trying to walk in. I held her back and pushed her out. “And that's what gave you the audacity to come unannounced?” I glared at her, “If one doesn't pick up your calls, it's simply because they don't want to.” Mia was one of my trials, a female beta that I was entangling myself with while waiting for when I would actually pick one to be my chosen mate and Luna. “I am sorry, Alpha.” she said, nonchalantly, “But I was thinking that Louisa should be dead by now. I mean, it's been five days now.” Oh, that's right! I did mention to her my plans to get rid of my fated mate alongside the enemies who butchered my family. “Go home, Mia,” I said, walking out on her. Mia was from the richest family in the Silvermoon Pack and with her father gone, she controls her family's empire. Of course, she is fierce and strong, a perfect candidate, but I wasn't ready to make a choice yet. I walked down the hallway to Louisa's room. When I reached her door, I didn’t bother knocking. I twisted the handle and pushed it open. I opened my mouth to speak, but my gaze drifted to her bathroom, which was slightly open and in that instance, the fury in me disappeared. Damn it! My eyes landed on her bare back, the curve of her spine, her wet hair draping over her shoulder. I should’ve looked away. I should’ve slammed the door shut and walked the hell out. But I didn’t. I let my gaze trace the shape of her body, taking in everything I shouldn’t be seeing. And I hated it, I hated the way my pulse quickened. This was the same issue I had with her, anytime I got too close, I tended to crave her. Gosh! I hated every part of it; she was wolf-less, and I deserved better. In that instance, I heard the sound of water shutting off. I moved quickly, stepping back out of the room as silently as I could. My heart hammered against my ribs as I closed the door just enough to keep me from getting caught. I couldn't let her know about my cravings, the last time was obviously a mistake! Leaning against the wall outside, I exhaled and ran a hand through my hair. I needed to focus, finding my mother was my priority. I waited for a while, giving her enough time to dress up, then I straightened my shoulders and knocked on the door. “Louisa,” I called out, “Open the damn door!” The door creaked open, and she stood there, fully dressed in a simple fitted blouse and dark leggings. Her damp hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing her face in a way that made my heart skip a beat. Her beauty was infuriatingly distracting but I pushed those thoughts aside. I stepped inside, letting the door shut behind me. “Alpha Scott,” she called out, looking me in the eye. That was strange, Louisa barely looked me in the eye. She always seemed scared of me but that also made her do anything I asked of her. “I think you've stalled enough, Where is my mother?” She ignored me for a while and walked back to her bedstand. “If you don't mind, I will be needing my phone,” she said, stretching her bedspread to look neater. “What does your phone have to do with this?” I asked, raising my voice. “There is a contact there, someone I want to reach.” After Louisa fell and I thought she had died, I took her phone from her body, switched it off and hid it, to avoid it being tracked to me. “The Leatherhead Pack has organised a council for your search, your disappearance after the death of Alpha George is alarming.” I reminded her. She took a deep breath and slowly walked towards me. The closer she got, the harder it became to ignore the pull between us. “I really need my phone, Alpha Scott,” she murmured. “That's the only lead I have.” Then, without another word, she moved towards the door. “And where are you going?” I asked, holding her back. “I need fresh air,” She was about to walk out on me, something she hadn't done before. I dragged her back and she stumbled. I was about to utter a word when my phone buzzed inside my leather jacket, I brought it out and glanced at the screen. My eyes widened in shock, the moment I saw who the caller was.Scott Her lashes fluttered. For a second I thought my mind was playing tricks on me but then her eyes cracked open, glassy and unfocused. She blinked once, twice, her gaze settling first on Jace.“Jace…” Her voice was uncertain. Then her head tilted slightly, her pupils dragging toward me. “Alpha… Scott?”Something in my chest uncoiled all at once. The corners of my mouth lifted, almost against my will, and the weight I’d been carrying for weeks eased just enough for me to breathe.“Welcome back, Louisa,” I said softly.Jace steadied her as she pushed herself upright, her movements shaky, her confusion clear. Her fingers dug into his sleeve like she was clinging to the one thing familiar.I gave Ayana a short nod. She understood instantly. Raising one trembling hand, she whispered an incantation. Power spilled through the air, thick and suffocating, and the casket slammed shut with a deep, final thud. The noise made Jace snap his head up. He lunged toward it, fury and desperation bla
ScottHer smirk didn’t falter even as my fingers pressed tighter against her throat. Slowly, deliberately, she slipped a hand into her pocket. For a moment, I thought she might pull a blade, but instead she drew out a folded paper, old and creased at the edges.“Here,” she rasped.I hesitated, then released her with a shove. My hand snatched the paper from her grasp. The rough texture brushed against my fingertips as I unfolded it. Symbols spiraled across the page, twisted lines, unfamiliar letters, markings that made my head ache just staring at them.“What is this?” I growled.“The spell,” she replied smoothly, rubbing her throat where my grip had been.I turned, shoving the paper into George’s hands. At once, Louisa’s guards lowered their weapons. A ripple of movement followed, my guards lowering theirs reluctantly, eyes still sharp with suspicion. Ayana flicked her wrists, and the glow pinning Jace to the wall sputtered out. He crashed to the floor, coughing, his hand instinctivel
Scott The sharp blare of a horn cut through the air, jolting every nerve in me. I flicked a quick wink at the nearest guard, and he hurried toward the door. Before he could even report back, my mother rushed in, her silk gown brushing against the floor as she stormed into the sitting room, her voice shrill.“Why is the Leatherhead Pack surrounding our home?”I froze, my eyes snapping to Jace. My gut twisted with dread, already knowing the answer.George’s voice sliced the silence. “You said she was coming in a taxi, Jace.”Jace’s lips twitched. “I lied.”Our Mother turned on him immediately, confusion etched across her face. “Jace, you didn’t travel like they said… Well, that’s by the way. What is going on?”Jace took one measured step back, his hands raised as if that would calm the fire building in me. “Agnes is just taking caution. She means no harm…. No one has to die today.”I couldn't believe what I was hearing but I knew I had to do something. My chest rose, my voice bellowing
Scott Jace’s boots clicked against the marble as he strode toward us, his posture unnervingly composed. His eyes swept the room once, then settled on me.“The witch habitating Louisa’s body,” he said calmly, almost too calmly, “is Agnes Hales.”My body stiffened, the name slamming into me like a blade to the gut. My eyes narrowed. “What?”Ayana gasped, “Agnes Hales… one of the three witches who returned for the destruction of your family.”Jace’s lips curved into something dangerously close to a smile. “Not anymore. I think she’s had a change of heart.”My stomach twisted. I stepped closer, searching his face for the brother I knew, but all I found was someone different. Jace wasn't the one to be easily fooled.“You sound bewitched, brother.” I voiced out.He closed the distance between us, his eyes boring into mine, his voice steady and unyielding. “I’m not bewitched, brother.”George scoffed. “Agnes Hales was the regent of the coven your grandfather butchered. Do you really think a
Scott The sitting room was suffocating, every second louder than the last. My fists curled tight, knuckles aching as I slammed my palm against the arm of the couch.“You have to find them!” I roared, my voice rattling through the walls.Ayana flinched but quickly dropped to her knees, her fingers grazing the floor as she whispered incantations, sparks of silver light flickering between her hands. Her forehead beaded with sweat, her lips moving faster, but after a long moment she exhaled sharply and the glow faded.“I… I can’t,” she stammered, lifting her eyes to me.“Can’t?” I stepped toward her, towering over her, fury burning in my chest. “Then do it again! I don’t care what it will cost … just do it again!!!”She stood and walked to George. Her hand shook as she reached for George’s. He gave her a quick, nervous nod, their fingers entwining as if he could lend her strength. Together they closed their eyes, their voices blending in low, trembling chants. For a heartbeat, hope clawe
Louisa/Agnes The wall at my back was rough and cold, but all I felt was his heat pressing into me. His hands slid from my waist up my sides, fingers digging in as though he feared I might vanish. I gasped against his lips when his palm cupped my breast through the thin fabric, his thumb grazing over the peak until I trembled.“Kaleb…” My voice broke around his name, half-moan, half-plea.His groan vibrated into my mouth as he kissed me harder, devouring me. His other hand tugged at my dress, bunching it at my thighs until the fabric rode high, leaving my legs bare to his touch. His fingertips traced upward, teasing the sensitive skin just short of where I needed him most.I arched into him, clutching at his hair, dragging him closer. The desperation between us was a living thing, clawing to break free after sixty years of silence. He pressed his thigh between mine, forcing them apart, and the friction sent sparks racing through me.I whimpered, grinding against him without shame, my
