I lowered the gun slowly, breathing hard, my chest rising and falling like a beast barely chained. Thomas writhed on the bloodstained bed, both thighs leaking crimson, his face contorted in agony. The bastard wasn’t so smug now.

But before I could say another word, the door slammed open.

Boots clipped against the marble.

“What the hell is going on here?” Mia’s voice rang as she stepped in. “I just went to get some damn groceries, and now it’s a full house! Doctors everywhere!”

She stepped closer and froze when she saw me with the gun still in hand and Thomas bleeding on the bed, his body trembling in pain, his mouth hanging open in a silent scream.

She blinked. Then her sharp gaze slid from Thomas back to me. “Scott... what the actual fuck happened here?” Her tone was lower now.
