Zy's POV

The door clicked shut behind him and the house went quiet in a way that felt permanent.

I stood in the middle of my room with the half-packed duffel still open on the bed. His words kept replaying like they had been recorded on purpose.

Take the pause.

Disappear.

If I see you again I’ll walk the other way.

I finished packing without thinking too hard about what I was throwing in. Clothes. Charger. The folder with the scholarship papers. My hands moved on autopilot while my chest stayed

Bella’s POVI still had the taste of him on my mouth when I pulled back.Grant didn’t shove me. That was the first thing I noticed. He just stood there for a second too long, like his brain needed time to catch up. Then he stepped away and wiped his lip with the back of his hand like I had left something dirty on him.“What the fuck was that?” he said, voice low.I smiled. Soft. Controlled. The same smile that used to work on him.“Don’t act brand new. You used to like when I did that.”“I used to like a lot of things I don’t like anymore.”He said it flat. No heat. That almost pissed me off more than if he had yelled.I tilted my head and looked him up and down. Same dark hoodie. Same tired eyes. Same boy who used to drive me home and kiss me like he meant it. Now he looked at me like I was a problem he needed to walk away from.“She’s leaving, right?” I asked. “That’s what everybody’s saying. Hardship transfer. No-contact rule. You’re finally free of the mess.”Grant’s jaw flexed. “

My hands moved on autopilot while my chest stayed tight and empty at the same time.Downstairs my parents were already talking in low voices with Molly. The transfer was moving. The no-contact condition was real. Everyone kept saying it was for the best. Nobody asked me if it felt like the best.By late afternoon I couldn’t sit in the house anymore. I still had one box of stuff in my campus locker and a form the admin office needed signed in person. I told Molly I would be quick. She looked like she wanted to come with me but didn’t push.Camp

Grant's POVI didn’t sleep. The second the car door shut on her last night I knew I’d crossed into something I couldn’t take back. I could still feel the way her body had taken me — the tight heat, the way she’d clenched and cried out while I held her down and told her it was the last time. The cruelty had been deliberate. Necessary. It still sat in my chest like something spoiled.I sat in the dark apartment until the sky started changing color. Every time I closed my eyes I saw her face when I ordered her out. Not the anger. The flash of hurt underneath it that she’d tried to hide. I told myself that look was the price. Better that look than watching her lose the rest of her life because I couldn’t stay away.By morning the campus page had already done its work. New video. Zy in Bella’s face. Me pulling her back by the arm. Caption calling her desperate. Comments stacking the way they always did when people smelled blood. I watched it once, jaw locked so tight it ached, then closed

Zy's POVIvy was still staring at the message when I stood up.“I’m going.”She looked at me like I’d lost the last working part of my brain. “Going where?”“To find her.”“Zy...”“I’m done sitting here while that girl plays with my life.” I grabbed my hoodie and shoved my phone in the pocket. “You coming or not?”Ivy cursed under her breath, pulled on jeans, and followed. We didn’t talk much on the way. Campus at night felt thinner, the paths emptier, every light too sharp. I had one name in my head and nothing else.Bella.We found her outside the business faculty building, standing under the overhang with two girls from her circle, laughing like the night belonged to her. She saw me coming and the laugh didn’t even falter. It just changed shape.“Look who crawled out of her feelings,” she said.I stopped a few feet away. Ivy stayed slightly behind me, quiet but ready.“You sent that message.”Bella tilted her head. “Did I?”“Don’t play dumb. You still have the file. You’ve been sit

Zy's POVI punched the code wrong twice before Ivy’s door finally buzzed. She opened it in an oversized shirt, took one look at my face, and stepped aside without a word. The second the lock clicked I dropped the bag. The leftover sobs came out ugly and loud. She didn’t ask questions. Just pulled me to the couch and let me shake until the worst of it passed. When I could breathe again she shoved a bottle of water into my hands.“Phone.”I handed it over. She put it face-down on the table like it had personally offended her.“You’re staying. No one gets a vote tonight.”I nodded. My eyes still burned. The stairwell cry had left my throat raw and my head pounding. Every time I swallowed I tasted salt. I could still hear the flat way Grant had spoken under the track light, the finality in it, the way he had looked at me like the cleanest thing he could do was erase himself.Ivy got up, grabbed a clean towel from the bathroom, and tossed it in my lap.“Wash your face. You look like shit.”

Zy's POVI did not cry in front of the track gate.I cried in the stairwell of my building like a person who had run out of better places. My bag was already packed with anything I could grab without thinking. Clothes. Charger. The folder with the scholarship printouts. I had told Mom I was staying at Ivy’s. I had not told her I did not know if I was coming back tomorrow. All I knew was that the house felt too full of plans made around me, and campus felt too full of eyes, and Grant had looked at me like the most useful thing he could do was erase himself. The first sob came out ugly. Then the rest followed so hard I had to sit down on the concrete step and press my forehead to my knees. It was not neat crying. It was the kind that dragged sound out of my chest whether I wanted it or not. My shoulders shook. My throat burned. Every time I tried to swallow it down, Grant’s voice came back.*Stay away from me until your final decision comes through.*Protective, clean, finished.I hated
