ISLA'S POV

The house stayed too quiet after he left.

I locked the bedroom door, pressed my back against it, and waited until my heartbeat finally slowed. His warning still sat under my skin like a bruise.

‘Leave while you still can.’ The way he'd said it hadn't sounded like a suggestion. It had sounded like a promise.

I forced myself to move anyway.

My suitcase sat where I'd left it. I started unpacking, but I kept glancing at the door, half expecting him to walk back in at any moment.

When I finally finished, I went into the bathroom and turned the shower on full blast. The hot water loosened the tension in my shoulders, but it did nothing to chase away the memory of those sharp green eyes.

Afterward, I dried off, pulled on an oversized shirt that fell to mid-thigh, and dropped onto the bed. There they were again. Ryder's eyes. Cold and steady, like he already knew every secret I was trying to hide.

I shook my head and tapped my cheeks lightly with both hands.

“You're here for a purpose,” I whispered to the empty room. “He's the enemy. Don't get distracted by some guy with green eyes.”

Exhaustion must have finally caught up with me, because the next time I opened my eyes, the room was dark. Moonlight slipped through the curtains, and my phone screen read 11:47 p.m.

My stomach growled so loud it almost scared me. I groaned and forced myself upright. The house was still silent, like I was the only person left on earth.

I rubbed my eyes, half asleep, and padded barefoot out of the room. The hallway was dark. I moved carefully, listening to any sound that he was home. Nothing. Everywhere stayed quiet.

I yawned as I reached the kitchen, then stopped mid-yawned.

My breath caught in my throat.

Ryder stood by the coffee machine with nothing but a dark towel wrapped low around his hips. The towel looked like it was fighting for its life. Water still clung to his skin, tracing the lines of his back and the hard cut of his shoulders. His hair was damp and messy, like he had just stepped out of the shower himself.

He slowly turned, green eyes fixed on me.

“You’re still here,” he said. Cold. Flat.

I forgot how to speak for a second. Then I found my voice.

“Sorry to disappoint you.”

He said nothing. Just turned back to the coffee machine like I wasn’t worth another word. The tension in the room felt thick enough to choke on. Everything seemed to hold its breath.

“Mind if I borrow your kitchen?” I asked.

He ignored me.

“Jerk,” I muttered under my breath.

I opened the fridge. There was milk. At least I could survive on cereal until morning. I turned to open shelves for a bowl and immediately realized the problem. Every single shelf sat too high. Of course. This house wasn’t designed for short people.

I stood on my toes, stretching as high as I could. My finger brushed the edge of a bowl but couldn’t quite grab it. I stretched harder, the big shirt riding up.

A sudden warmth appeared behind me. A large hand reached over my head, pulled the bowl down, and set it on the counter within easy reach.

I gasped and spun around so fast I almost knocked into him. He was right there close enough that I could feel the heat coming off his bare skin. Close enough that the scent of his soap mixed the coffee filled my lungs.

I quickly stepped away.

“Do you always walk around in a towel?” The question left my mouth before I could stop it.

His eyes stayed on mine, unblinking. “This is my house. I can act however the fuck I want. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to leave.”

My mouth opened, then closed. I couldn’t find the right comeback. Finally I settled on the only safe thing left.

“Thank you.”

He just stood there with his coffee, completely ignoring me again. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the counter. I poured the cereal into the bowl, then reached for the milk. My hands were shaking from the whole tension. I poured too fast. The carton tipped. Milk spilled across the counter and poured onto the floor in a white puddle.

“Shit.”

I stepped backward without looking. My bare foot landed directly in the middle of the puddle. The floor vanished under me. My arms flailed. I grabbed the first solid thing I could find.

Which happened to be Ryder.

My fingers closed around the edge of his towel. He moved at the same time, one strong arm wrapping around my waist to keep me from hitting the floor. The sudden force yanked the towel loose.

It dropped.

We both froze.

Ryder stared down at me with absolute murder in his eyes. His arm was still locked around my waist, holding me pressed against his bare chest. My heart slammed so hard I was sure he could feel it. I didn’t know what possessed me, but my eyes dropped.

And went round in pure shock.

I registered every detail in a single suspended second…the hard lines of his body, the heat of his skin, how close we still were. I was about to shove myself away when a new voice cut through the kitchen like a blade.

“Holy fuck. What’s going on here?”

ISLA’S POV “Who are you?” I asked. The man only smiled and took one step forward. “We meet again, little one.” It was him. The white-haired man from the flashes in my head. My heart slammed so hard against my ribs I thought it might crack them. “Who are you?” I asked again, voice barely above a whisper. Before he could answer, a familiar voice cut through the air. “Isla! Isla!” I spun toward the sound. Jennifer was running down the path toward me, face pale with panic. When I looked back to where the white-haired man had been standing, the space was empty. No one. Nothing. Just the brick wall and the quiet morning. Jennifer reached me and immediately started checking my arms, my face, my clothes like she expected to find blood. “Are you okay?” she asked, breathing hard. “I saw someone drag you away. I tried to get help but no one paid attention to me” My eyes stayed fixed on the spot the man had been standing. “What are you looking at?” Jennifer asked, worried clear in

  • I DARE YOU    Chapter 35-Cornered

ISLA'S POV I woke up with a sharp pain between my legs.A low groan left my throat as I rolled onto my side and pressed a hand to my waist. Everything ached in the best and worst way. The spot beside me on the bed was empty and cold. Sheets were tangled. The pillow still smelled like him. That bastard. He had left after pounding me all night.I sat up slowly, wincing, and reached for my phone on the nightstand. Still no reply from Silas. The screen showed 9:45 a.m. My stomach dropped.“Shit.”If I didn’t move right now I was going to be late to the lab. I climbed out of bed carefully, every step sending a dull reminder straight between my thighs. I needed something loose. Something that wouldn’t cling. I showered quickly and pulled on a simple flowy dress, tied my hair up.The house was quiet when I stepped out of my room. No sound from the kitchen. No movement upstairs. So he really had just left after we had sex. I didn’t know why that stung. What was I expecting? Cuddling? Breakf

  • I DARE YOU    Chapter 34-I Liked It

Isla’s POVI froze. My eyes shot open. Horror washed over me so fast I almost choked on it. I immediately turned the vibrator off and yanked my hand away like the thing had burned me.Ryder stood just inside the doorway, completely naked, arms still crossed, watching me with that dark, unreadable expression. His cock was hard and heavy between his legs, thick and flushed, and for one stupid second all I could do was stare.“Don’t stop on my account,” he said, voice low and rough. “Keep going.”He started walking toward the bed.Just how long had he been standing there?Embarrassment burned hot across my face and chest, but there was no way in hell I was going to let him mock me for this. I lifted my chin, turned the vibrator back on, and pressed it between my legs again.“Enjoying the show?” I asked, voice steadier than I felt. His eyes darkened instantly. He stopped at the edge of the bed, jaw tight, watching the toy move inside me. I kept my gaze locked on his even as my hips rolle

  • I DARE YOU    Chapter 33-Hot and Cold

ISLA’S POVThe line went dead.“Hello? Hello?”I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at the screen. Call ended. The unknown number sat there like it was mocking me. My fingers shook as I hit redial.Failed.I tried again.Failed.My heart was beating so hard I could feel it in my throat. Silas had told me he couldn’t dig up anything on Vanessa because her information was being protected by someone powerful. And now Vanessa herself had just called me and told me to stop looking. She knew something. She had seen something.Or someone had made sure she stayed quiet until now.I tried the number one more time. Nothing. The call wouldn’t even connect. I quickly typed a message to Silas and sent the number along with a short note: ‘Vanessa just called me. Said stop looking. This is the number.’No reply. He was probably busy. Or asleep.I sat on the edge of the bed staring at the phone for a long time, waiting for it to light up again. It stayed dark. The silence in the room felt h

  • I DARE YOU    Chapter 32-The Mysterious Call

ISLA'S POV The urge to follow Ryder was so strong it almost hurt. I wanted to know where the hell he was going and what had been so urgent that it pulled him away from me like that. From the look in his eyes when Ryan knocked, he hadn’t wanted to leave either. I climbed down from the bed on shaky legs…Ryder’s shirt fell just above my knees. I walked toward the door, still feeling the ghost of his mouth between my thighs. When I reached for the handle, it turned from the outside. A man stood there like he had been about to open it himself. He looked at me for a moment, expression unreadable. “The ki— Ryder sent me to take you home,” he said. I didn’t know why, but I felt like I had seen him somewhere before. I couldn’t place it. Maybe he was one of Ryder’s friends or teammates. I nodded and walked out of the room, closing the door behind me. The man quietly led me toward a side door. The music had stopped completely. The house felt too quiet, like everyone had already left. • I DARE YOU    Chapter 31-Pick One

Ryder’s POV I froze with my mouth still on Isla’s cunt, two fingers buried deep inside her, her thighs trembling around my head. My wolf snarled at the interruption, furious and half-feral. Isla’s breath hitched. Her fingers were still tangled in my hair.I lifted my head just enough to look at her.Her eyes were glassy, lips parted, cheeks flushed. She looked wrecked already…and I hadn’t even fucked her yet.“Don’t you fucking move,” I growled under my breath.I shoved off the bed, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand as I stalked to the door. My cock was throbbing so hard it hurt, straining against the zipper of my jeans. I didn’t bother adjusting it. Let Ryan see what he’d interrupted. He better pray whatever he had to say was important or they would never find his body.I cracked the door open just enough to glare at him.Ryan’s expression was tight. No smirk. No usual bullshit. That alone told me it was serious.“Speak,” I ordered.“You have to come see for yourself.”I knew
