CHAPTER 28

MAYA

“I can't believe that asshole had the nerve to go around accusing you. He should be jailed for what he's done, in fact I think it's better to sue him or something.”

Marvin was pissed. And I couldn't blame him. Even I was fuming with anger and was not surprised that she had to go this low to make me look bad in front of him.

She's always been a snake.

“Don't you think you're taking this thing a little too far?” I intervened. “She accused me,but I was able to prove my innocence. Isn't that what matters?”

He glared at me, like I had just said the dumbest thing. “They didn't just accuse you. They did a whole lot worse. That's defamation if you think about it and I'm sure Larry wouldn't have let this go easily, so why should we?”

He had a point.

But I don't know why, I just didn't want this to prolong. I didn't want to have to deal with this matter and I was hell bent on trying to convince him to let it go.

“Please, let's just forget about it,” I pleaded with him.

CHAPTER 4- SEND TROUBLE MY LOCATIONLARRY'S POVThe kitchen smelled like coffee and pancakes. Brandy was humming softly, flipping a pancake like she owned the world...or at least the morning. I sat across from her, fingers drumming on the table, staring at my phone but not really seeing it.Then the TV cut through like a slap:Honestly? I didn’t give a damn about the news. Not one bit. But hearing Marvin’s name was enough to make my head spin. What the hell?«BREAKING NEWS: Authorities report a serious vehicular accident involving Marvin Perkins earlier this morning. Details remain limited at this time, and emergency personnel are on the scene. We will continue to provide updates as information becomes available.»A sultry chill immediately crept down my spine, and I shivered. What?! Marvin? My heart almost skipped a beat. I blinked once…no…..twice, my eyes stretched wide, I was afraid my ciliary muscles would snap. How? Why? This wasn’t the plan. Heck no it wasn't. Victor and I... we

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   BREAKING THE RULES

CHAPTER 43 – BREAKING THE RULES “You’re drunk,” I teased as I leaned against the doorframe of the hotel suite, watching him loose that playful fresh tie. Apparently the only thing keeping him from turning into a full-blown mess. "Takes one to know one," Larry smirked." I'm not drunk." I pouted my lips playfully. Was I drunk? Yeah… and honestly, I look better like this. “Not drunk enough to forget that you were flirting with the CEO of some startup all night.” He shrugged off his tie like it was nothing, but the way his eyes narrowed at me… yeah, that was everything. “Or was it the bartender? I lost count,” he continued.Laughing, I pushed past the door and let myself drift deeper into the room. The slit in my emerald green dress was doing its job...Larry’s eyes betrayed him, flicking down before he tried to act innocent. I’d been catching these little glances all night. A contract marriage, remember? No feelings, just rules and benefits. Yet somehow tonight, someone apparently d

CHAPTER 42- CRASH INTO CHAOSMARVIN POV When I opened my eyes, I didn’t know if they were actually open.Everything was… sideways. There was no up or down. Just pain and a buzzing silence like I was underwater and the world above didn’t care if I surfaced again. When the crash hit, it wasn’t sound I noticed first. It was the weight. It was almost like the air itself had slammed down on me.The steering wheel crushed against my ribs, and my head snapped forward so hard my teeth bit into my tongue. The airbag burst open with a deafening pop, shoving me back into the seat. For a moment, I thought I’d gone deaf. I blinked. My lashes scraped something sticky. Blood?I tried to lift my arm but it barely moved. The windshield was gone...or maybe it was still there, just shattered into a million glittering pieces clinging to the frame. Some of it was in my hair. Some on my hands. I could still feel the sting in my palm where a shard had already cut deep. Something was leaking from the das

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   PAST THE POINT

CHAPTER 41 — PAST THE POINTMARVINThe cold hit me like a slap the second I stepped outside. Did it really bother me? No, it didn't. My head wasn’t on the damn weather. It was on Larry...on Victor. On the kind of mess the two of them could stir up if left unchecked.I lit a cigarette without thinking twice. Months of trying to quit, and it took one bad night to throw that promise into the gutter. The first drag settled my nerves barely. All the more, it was enough for me to start think straight. I couldn’t just storm in blind. If Victor was involved, it meant trouble. And I sure wasn’t about to walk into a trap.I dialed Rico back. It rang once...twice... then his voice came on low. “Yeah, boss?” he answered.“Where are they now?” I asked, flicking ash to the side.“Victor’s still at the bar. Larry left about fifteen minutes ago. Headed west. I got one of the boys tailing him.”“Good. Don’t let him out of your sight. And Rico…” I paused, clenching my fist. “…don’t engage unless I s

  • I DIVORCED HIM! NOW, HE REGRETS   THE RIFT

CHAPTER 40— THE RIFTMARVINIt's been three days since Brandy’s visit, but I noticed Maya becoming withdrawn nowadays. She hardly talks to me and if that doesn't make things worse, she avoids me nowadays.I told the maid to call her down for dinner, but she came up with some flimsy excuse. I can't believe she's expecting me to believe that hullshit. Does she think I was born yesterday or something?I was unable to take it anymore and went up to her room. I didn't even bothe knocking on the door and barged into her room instead. She flinched upon seeing me, and glared at me.She was watching a series on her phone and I noticed a tray of food on a drawer next to her bed. She lied that she wasn't feeling hungry but snuck food upstairs.“So, you look very starved,” I said, my hands crossed together with sarcasm laced in my voice. She rolled off her eyes, and kicked off the blankets. “What are you doing here? I don't want any company right now.”I ignored her statement. “Why are you avoi

CHAPTER 39— OLD CONNECTIONS LARRY“Way to choose a secluded place,” I said, sarcasm laced in my voice.Victor just let out a chuckle. He's the one who's bent on making sure that we don't go to a public area but went ahead to choose a bar instead. Classic Victor. “I mean, the bar is dimly lit and it took you almost three minutes to find me. So, don't you think it's quite secluded?” He concluded.I ignored his statement and slowly shook my head. “So, do you know what you're here for?” I went straight to the point, taking a seat on one of the stools next to him.He looked at me with a confused expression on his face and replied, “You're the one who called me here and suddenly, you're asking if I know what I'm here for?”Before I could continue, a waiter approached us with a small smile on his face. “Gpod day, gentlemen. What can I get you two?” He asked.“I want a bottle of whiskey,” I told him.Victor said he wanted the same thing, so he left to get our order. I wasn't usually the typ
