Alvara

I couldn't sleep a wink all through last night. Not after those words Kai said. He'd liked me for 5years?

How was that even possible? We hadn't even known each other that long.

With a confession like that, there was no way I could sleep in the same room with Kai. By the way, he'd insisted on sleeping in the same room thing since we were going to be "married" after all.

“And why can't my heart stop beating so fast?“ I scolded myself while cleaning the kitchen to get last night's confession out of my head but it only lingered on more. “Maybe it's because I haven't been confessed to in so long“

Even my face felt flushed.

I grumbled, “Really, what was Kai thinking confessing to me like that?“

“Good morning“ A voice greets me from the kitchen door. It was Kai.

He was dressed in the thick black sleeveless singlet he'd used to sleep in last night. His black hair was messy and all over the place.

As he moved to the fridge, pulled out a bottle of water and drank it, I noticed how his muscles flexed.

Has he always been that muscular? He must have been. I'd just never noticed it—until now.

Kai looked at me through the corner of his eyes. “Alvara, are you alright?“

I shake out my thoughts. “Sorry. Good morning. Did you like me well? I mean, did you sleep well?“

Damn it. I'd mistakenly blurted out the word "like."

I wasn't like this before around Kai but now was overtly conscious about his presence and how much being in the same space with him affected me.

Tossing the empty bottle of water in the trash can, Kai says. “Listen, I'm sorry if my confession to you last night made things awkward between us but I hope you do know that you don't have to feel pressured to return my feelings“

“We had a deal and that's all it should be“ He continued, handing over to me a voice recorder. “Regarding our revenge against Williams, here“

I picked it up. “What is this?“

“Our first piece of evidence to prove Williams indeed stole your company's product design and idea and gave it to J INTERIOR, your rival company“ He reveals. “That is a voice recording between Williams and the CEO of J INTERIOR striking a deal to get their hands on your company's product design and idea a few days before your product launched“

I played the voice recording. Kai was right. It was clearly the voice of Williams and Andrew, the CEO of J INTERIOR.

“How did you get this?“ I asked. “You said it was a recording of them striking a deal way before I decided to launch my company's product. If you knew about this, why didn't you try to stop it?“

“Because I didn't know that your company was the target“ Kai revealed. “I'm sorry for not acting quickly on it“

What the hell was I doing trying to make Kai feel bad about this? After all, he was the only one who offered to help grow back my company.

“I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to come out that way“ I apologized. “I don't blame you for anything—in fact, I don't have the right to blame you at all. I'm the one who had gotten my product idea and design stolen right under my nose like a fool“

“You're no fool, Alvara“ Kai corrects. “Williams is the problem. You were married to him. You did nothing wrong trusting him with your company's product design and idea“

Kai's phone rings.

“Hold on, just a minute“ He says, moving away to answer his phone call.

I went back to cleaning the kitchen. As I washed the dishes, the dish water spilled all over my shirt.

“Just great“ I grumbled, drying off my hands. I turned around to exit the kitchen when Kai re-entered.

“Alvara, that was—whoa, what happened to you?“

“The dish water spilled on me. I'm going to change“

He nods. “I'll wait in the living room for you then“

“Alright“

Moving to our shared bedroom, I pulled up my shirt over my head but it got stuck in my earrings.

“Ouch, that hurts“ I whined, struggling in vain to get my shirt off but it was to no avail. “Kai! Kai, are you out there?!“

He quickly rushed in. “Do you-“

Of course, he was speechless right now. I was literally in front of him with my upper body exposed.

“Kai? Are you still there?“

Clearing his throat, he reveals. “Yeah, sorry“

“My shirt is stuck in my earring“ I explained. “Do you mind helping me pull it off?“

“Yeah. Not at all“

Walking over towards me, I felt the slight graze of his finger against my bare skin.

“Hold on, I see where it's stuck“ Kai says, untangling the wool of my shirt from my earring. “Got it“

Relieved, I completely pulled off my shirt over my head.

“Thank you, Ka-“

My words were cut short as I noticed the way Kai looked at me. The dark, fiery gaze in his eyes. It made me feel wanted.

No one had ever gazed at me that way before.

“Sorry, I didn't mean to stare at you that way“ Kai apologized. “I'll give you some time to change“

As Kai started to walk away, I held him back.

“Hold on“

There was no mistaking my feelings. I was still quite uncertain what there really were but there was no denying the fact that I was physically attracted to Kai at the very least.

Honestly, I wasn't ready for another relationship with a Foley brother again. That's why I had to find out if my feelings towards Kai were beyond just physical attraction.

If it was, then I wouldn't feel guilty divorcing him after my revenge was accomplished.

But if it weren't...I'll just think of the consequences later.

Pulling Kai closer towards me, I placed my lips on his.

He pulled away from me, slightly and asked in a soft, breathless voice, “What are you doing, Alvara?“

I don't know.

“Just shut up and kiss me, Kai“ I respond. “And this might be the first—and the last time you'd get this chance so make the most out of it“

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    DON'T CONTROL IT

Kai“This is unbelievable“ My mother grumbles as she straightens my suit. “I can't believe you're getting married to the same woman that divorced—and ruined your brother's name. I mean, what do you two see in that woman anyways?““Point of correction, mother. Williams deceived Alvara“I corrected her, straightening my tie. “He sold off her company's product design and Idea to her rival company. Not just that but he sold her house to the bank as a collateral for a loan he had no interest in paying back“ “So what? Williams isn't perfect. No one is““If you don't like Alvara, mother then why are you here?“ I asked. “You didn't have to come to my wedding““Of course I did. Your father already swore he wouldn't show up so I had to“ Staring at my reflection in the mirror, a wide smile spreads across my face as I recount the day Alvara proposed to me back at the her launch on gala. She really was full of surprises and I couldn't wait to discover what other surprises she had up her sleeves

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    WILL YOU MARRY ME?

Alvara“Congratulations on a successful launch-on!“ Ava Reed, the wife of Davidson Reed cheers me as we clink wine glasses together. Ava Reed wasn't a stranger to me though. In fact, we went to the same high school together although we weren't close. Williams hadn't shown himself to me ever since Kai informed me he'd escaped the cops. I hoped it would continue to remain that way and he wouldn't ruin today's launch. After three weeks of hardwork in developing this product, Davidson Reed had put together this night gala and invited all prestigious business men—and women in the industry to publicly launch the product into the market. “Thank you, Ava“ “I mentioned to my husband many times that he should consider collaborating with your company for old time's sake but he never gave in“ She reveals. “I wonder what on earth Kai told him to persuade him“ It wasn't news to me that Kai had a hand on my collaborative project with Reed. I mean, he was the one who'd set up the meeting betwee

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    ESCAPED

Alvara I'd spent the past two weeks at home designing the product sketch for Mr Reed based on our collaborative ideas but I could barely focus. This was because Kai hadn't been coming home frequently. He always had one excuse to give or the other but it was clear he was avoiding me. The front door opens as Kai walks through it. He doesn't say Hi or even acknowledge my existence. This was really getting to me. He'd just managed to come home since he left this morning. It was 10pm in the evening!Looking up from my product sketch at him, I asked. “Are you going out again?“ “Yeah, I have some things to take care of“ He replies, pulling off his winter coat that was hung on the wall. “How's your product sketch coming along?“I scoffed. “Are you really curious about that?“ “Of course, I am“ Then be here. God damnit!“Well, I can barely focus and that's all thanks to you“ Kai furrowed his brow, confused. “Thanks to me? What did I do?“Was he seriously asking because he didn't know o

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    ENGAGED TO BE MARRIED

Kai“I'd be taking a huge gamble on this investment, Miss Alvara“ Davidson Reed, the CEO of Vintage enterprises says to Alvara. “Can you promise me that I won't come to regret my decision?“ I'd set up this meeting between Reed and Alvara. I was confident that their collaboration would be the best way to help Alvara's company bounce back into the spotlight. Reed only decided to meet up with Alvara if I came along but fuck it, my mind wasn't even on their conversation right now. It was on that kiss with Alvara from earlier. Why did she kiss me? I mean, she was clearly aware of how I felt for her. If she didn't feel the same, what was that kiss for?Damn. I was confused as hell but I want to kiss her again—if she lets me. My gaze lands on Alvara's lips as she discusses some inaudible nonsense with Reed. Those soft lips. I want them again. She turned to face me, “What do you think, Kai?“I snapped out of my thoughts. What did I think about what?“I think it's a really good idea.“ I

  • I DIVORCED MY HUSBAND–THEN, MARRIED HIS BROTHER    BECAUSE I LIKE YOU

KaiAs I exited Alvara's house, I couldn't stop smiling to myself as Christopher, my chauffeur who had been standing by the car door opened up for me. Climbing in, I let out a hearty laugh. I hadn't expected Alvara to give into my requirements for marriage but she had. She must be really eager to settle the scores with Williams. Since she'd just gotten divorced, I suggested our marriage should be put off until we'd gotten back everything Williams took from her. Till then, we would be engaged and she would have to move into my house as I possibly couldn't let her stay in that half-empty house much longer. She agreed without putting up a fight. I was still laughing when my chauffeur, Christopher climbed into the driver's seat and started the car. “You seem to be in a good mood, sir“ Christopher noticed. “Did your talk with my lady go well?““Oh, it went well alright“ “I'm glad to hear that. Where to now, sir? Should I take you home?“No. Alvara would need some time alone at my p
