“Sign it!“ I snarled, dumping the divorce paper on Williams, my husband—or rather ex-husband's bed.
Williams Foley—a reputable business man in the industry and I have been married for a year. I trusted him with everything I had in my name; my company, my properties yet he'd betrayed me by leaking my upcoming company's product to a rival company.
Without my knowledge, the product was released either way and my company faced backlash for plagiarism.
All potential investors pulled out their stocks and slowly, REYES INVESTMENT started to plummet to the ground.
Not only that, he'd taken out loans from the bank while using my properties as a collateral. The bank recently came today to claim half of my properties.
It all happened so fast that I didn't even have the time to process how long he'd been planning all this.
It must have been long enough for Williams to be hooking up with my best friend, Freya behind my back.
Even now in this bed—in my house, Freya was cuddled up in Williams arms half-naked when I'd just returned from the bank trying to plead with them for my properties back.
“Gladly“ William snickered, picking up a nearby pen on the reading desk beside the bed. He scribbles his signature across the document. Then toss it at me. “There. We're divorced now. Happy?“
I drew in a sharp breath, trying to control my anger.
“Get out“
“What?“
“Get out of my house, right now!“
“Fine. Hold your horses, woman“ William tsks. Turning to Freya, he says. “Get your things baby, let's go“
Scrambling up from the bed, both Williams and Freya began to pick up their belongings before they left.
Existing the bedroom, I moved to my half-empty living room and broke down in tears.
All my years of hardwork gone. Just like that. All because of Williams.
I swear it. I will have my revenge.
My phone rings. Wiping off my tears, I cleared my throat as I picked it up.
“Yes, Lisa?“ Lisa was my female secretary at the company.
“Madame, would you still be turning into work today?“ She asked. “More investors came along today demanding for returns of their stock“
This wasn't even surprising.
“Give it to them. Return everything and leave not a single penny out. When that's done, make a public announcement to the press that REYES INVESTMENT would be temporarily closed down“
Lisa gasped. “But you didn't do anything wrong. Rather, it was the rival company that stole our company's product design and idea“
“Nobody wants to know that side of the story, Lisa so just do as I tell you“ I paused. “I'll look for a way to pay the employees that salaries before month end so assure them not to worry about their pay. Thank you“
A knock was heard against my door.
“I'll call you back. It seems like I have a guest“
Hanging up the line, I moved towards the door and opened it. Before me stood Kai Foley, Williams younger brother.
I proceed to shut the door immediately but he hooks his legs at the doorstep.
“You're the last person I want to see right now, Kai“ I admit.
“Why? My brother was the one that hurt you not me“
True but still, I don't want to get involved with another Foley ever again.
“What do you want?“ I asked.
“To offer you some help“
“And how do you plan on doing that?“
“First, let me in and offer me a cup of iced tea before I start talking“
Rolling my eyes, I moved aside for him to walk through. “Come in“
Kai smirked as he walked into my house as if he owned it.
Gazing around, he shook his head. “This place is half-empty. Your living room doesn't even have a couch anymore. Williams really is ruthless“
I didn't want to hear Williams name.
“How do you intend to help me?“
“You haven't met my conditions. I did ask for a cup of iced tea“
Grunting, I moved over to the kitchen and prepared a cup of iced tea. Then, I headed over to Kai and handed it to him.
“Here“
Whisking off the cup of iced tea with that annoying smirk he'd had on his face since he showed up, Kai replies, “Thank you“
He sips the content, letting out a satisfying sigh. Then hands me back the empty cup.
“The company product that rival company released, I can help prove they are yours and that Williams was the one who sold out your company's idea and design to them“ He reveals in a more serious tone. “Then, I can help you make Williams suffer for ever double crossing you in the first place“
I frowned, confused. “You're willing to help me do that to your own brother?“
“We're brothers in name only“
“Still, why are you willing to go this far for me?“
Kaia laughed wholeheartedly, “I'm trying to help you, Alvara but that doesn't mean I'm only doing this for you. I also have my own reasons why I want to see my brother suffer“
“Besides, you're going to need tons of money to get your company back on its feet as well as getting back the properties you lost to the bank and I have tons of those“ He continued. “It's a win-win situation for us both“
“Are you here to gloat about your money?“
“No. Rather, I'm here to offer myself to you, Alvara“ Kai says. “Use me to get your revenge on my brother. I promise to help you get back everything you lost to him—and more“
That sounded too good of an offer not to have a price attached to it. Regardless, it was my best bet.
I wasn't certain I could start from scratch again with my company without clearing out the plagiarism issue first.
It wasn't something I was certain I could handle alone either but with Kai, I just might be able to.
“And am I using you for free or is there a price attached to it?“
“Not a price but there is a requirement“
These bunch of sneaky Foley brothers. “Which is?“
“Marry me, Alvara“
AlvaraThe doctor swallowed hard. “Procainamide is a medication used to treat irregular heart rhythms but in excessive amounts, it can stop the heart completely““That's ridiculous“ Kayden blurts out. “You're saying someone walked into your hospital and killed our mother?““This drug can only be administered by authorized personnel—““Which is why you called us in to apologize“ I cut in. “You think one of your staff did it, don't you?“Trembling, he admits. “Yes“The doctor could have hidden this information to protect his hospital but instead, he'd told me the truth. “Can we see a list?“ I asked. He blinked. “A list?““Of everyone who had access to my mother. Doctors, nurses. Anyone who entered her room“He nods. “I can arrange that““Do it“ Kayden's frown deepened. “This is bullshit! You need to sue this hospital for medical malpractice!“Turning to face the doctor, he adds. “Do you understand what your hospital staff just pulled? You killed a patient. Your licence ought to be re
AlvaraBad things, they say, come in threes. First, I lost everything I built. My marriage, company, my home. Then, I lost Klein. As if life was trying to test me to see how far I could go—now, I'm losing my mother. “Hello?“ The feminine voice called out over the speaker. “Miss Alvara, are you still there?“My phone slips out of my hands as I fall to the ground. The last thing I hear before I totally blacked out was Kai's voice in a distance calling out to me. But that was it. When my eyes opened, I didn't need to be told I was in an hospital. I've been here so many times, I'd gotten used to the antiseptic smell already. Hurried footsteps approached. The door creaked open and Kai appeared, slightly out of breath. “Are you alright?“ He asked, voice tight with worry. Sitting upright slowly, I nodded. “I'm...“ My voice cracked. “My mother's gone, Kai. She passed away““I'm so sorry, Alvara. Let's go see her“I shook my head. “I don't know if I can. The last time we met...“Kai wr
Alvara“W-What did you just say?“ I stuttered. “Mother, let's not talk about this. Not right now. I'll go get the doctors and—“ Slowly, Mother removes her hand from mine. “If you're not going to leave him, then get out. I don't want to see you“I scoffed in disbelief. This wasn't what I wanted to hear from my own Mother in this moment. “Get some rest, Mother. Let's talk lat—““Don't come back here“ She cuts in, glancing away. “I don't want to see you“Seriously? Why had I been worried about her in the first place?“Okay. I won't come here again“I'd turned to leave when Mother chuckled and said. “To think I did this all for nothing“My eyes widened. “What? Don't tell me you got in an accident on purpose“ “I did“ She admits. “Kai had said if I wanted your marriage over, you needed to be the one to break it so I thought I'd get injured and get you to do as I sa—“ “Mom!“ I yelled in tears. “Stop this, please!“This was too much. Getting hurt on purpose just to ruin my marriage. “Do
Alvara“Breathe, Alvara“ Kai's voice says over the phone speakers. “Where are you right now? I'm on my way“After telling him my location, I hung up. Breathe, Alvara. Breat—Who am I kidding? It was easier said than done. Sucking in a shaky breath, my fingers wouldn't stop trembling. The ER door slid open behind me as a nurse stepped out. “Miss Higgins?““Yes, that's me“ I replied quickly. “Please come with me“I followed behind the nurse quietly as she led me down the hallway. Gesturing to empty chair right across from him, she says. “Please, sit“I settled down into the empty chair. “How's my mother, nurse?““She's alive but is currently in a critical condition“ My stomach dropped. “She sustained multiple injuries—internal bleeding, fractured ribs and a severe head trauma“ The nurse continued. “The doctors are currently working on stabilizing her“ My legs nearly gave out. Standing to my feet, I urged. “I want to see her“The nurse stops me. “I'm afraid you can't as she's curre
Kai“I'm sorry, what?“ I questioned, uncertain if I'd just heard her properly. With a shaky breathing, Alvara's mother repeats herself. “I said—“ “I heard what you said but that's something I would never do“ I cut in, removing her grip on my hands.“I wouldn't be here if I had any other choice“A humorless chuckle slipped past my lips. “With all due respect, ma'am, you don't get to walk into my office and ask me to end my marriage like it's some kind of business deal““Alvara is my daughter“ “And also my wife“ I countered. “I understand that you're concerned about Alvara but you don't get to ask me to end my marriage with the woman I love“She scoffed. “Love? You're telling me just because you love Alvara; that everything your brother and family did to her can just be looked over?““No. That's not what I'm saying. Of course, my father and brother need to be punished for causing Alvara pain“ I admit. “A punishment I'll ensure they get but I'm not going to cause Alvara more pain by le
KaiAfter work, I quickly rushed over home to congratulate Alvara on her first collaboration with Janice Walters but she wasn't home yet. She'd sent me a text message earlier that the team and her were going to have team lunch to celebrate the success of their sale but that was over an hour ago. Just as I was about to call her, the door clicks open. “Honey, you're home late“ I say, gently approaching and embracing her. “Congratulations on the success of your first collaboration with Janice““Thank you“I studied her face. “Is something wrong? You don't look so happy“Rubbing her temples, she reveals. “There's something I want to tell you. I really hope you don't get angry“Pulling me down onto the couch in the living room, she began. “I met an intern today at FashionXpress. Over team lunch earlier, I got to know that she had kidney failure“My jaw dropped. “Oh my goodness. That's sad““It is“ Avoiding eye contact, she adds. “She's still a young girl so I wanted to help her out in a
KaiFuck. I hadn't expected Father to show up at my door since after all he didn't come to the wedding. “Make me bang my fist on this door one more time, Kai Foley and I swear I will—“ I jerked the door knob open, “Lower your voice, father. My wife is-“ Father silence me with a hard smack agains
AlvaraI stared at Kai dumbfounded. “Are you aware of what you're saying right now?“ He nods, “Yes“ Chuckling nervously, I added. “I don't think you are. You're literally talking about handing over everything you've built to me““That's not such a bad thing, Alvara. Is it?“ He inquires. “You're m
AlvaraMother's words felt like a blow to my chest. A reminder that I wasn't the victim but rather the cause of my failed marriage. “You're right, Mother“ I admit. “I married Williams despite you and father's disapproval so I had to make the marriage work like you said““And I tried to do that“ I
AlvaraThe smirk on Mr Foley's face quickly fades off. “What did you just say?“I raised my brow, “You didn't know Williams had a pregnant mistress?““My son can do whatever he wishes to do“ He replies, “I wasn't aware when he cut ties with you so I don't see any need to be notified if there's anot
